  • The aim of the work described in this paper is to develop a complex underground acoustic system which detects and localizes the origin of an underground hammering sound using an array of hydrophones located about loom underground. Three different methods for the sound localization will be presented, a time-delay method, a power-attenuation method and a hybrid method. In the time-delay method, the cross correlation of the signals received from the array of sensors is used to calculate the time delays between those signals. In the power-attenuation method, the powers of the received signals provide a measure of the distances of the source from the sensors. In the hybrid method, both informations of time-delays and power-ratios are coupled together to produce better performance of position estimation. A new acoustic imaging technique has been developed for improving the hybrid method. This new acoustic imaging method shows the multi-dimensional distribution of the normalized cost function, so as to indicate the trend of the minimizing direction toward the source location. For each method the sound localization is carried out in three dimensions underground. The distance between the true and estimated origins of the source is 28m for a search area of radius 250m.

  • The aim of the work described in this paper is to develop a complex underground acoustic system which detects and localizes the origin of an underground hammering sound using an array of hydrophones located about 100m underground. Three different methods for the sound localization will be presented, a time-delay method, a power-attenuation method and a hybrid method. In the time-delay method, the cross correlation of the signals received from the array of sensors is used to calculate the time delays between those signals. • Hybrid power system has a power balanced controller to equilibrate generation power with a load demand and it is composed of DC bus-type power systems. And all of power generators in hybrid power system can be equivalent to current-source characteristics. So this paper discusses power balance control for photovoltaic/wind/diesel hybrid power system. And through the results of simulation, the proposed scheme was verified.

  • A protection scheme for hybrid active power filters, which is combined shunt passive filter and small rated series active filter, is presented and analyzed in this paper. The proposed series active power filter operated as a high impedance 'k($\Omega$)' to the fundamental component when over current occurs in the power distribution system, and three control strategies are proposed in this paper. The first is the method by detecting the fundamental source current through the p-q theory, the second is the method by detecting the fundamental component of load current in Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF) and the third is the method by detecting the input voltage. When the over current occurs in the power distribution system, the proposed scheme protects the series active power filter without additional protection circuits. The validity of proposed protection scheme is investigated through experimental result for the prototype hybrid active power filter system.

  • Diesel fuel is expensive because transportation to remote areas adds extra cost, and it causes air pollution by engine exhaust. Providing a feasible economical and environmental solution to diesel generators is important. A hybrid system of renewable plants and diesel generators can benefit islands or other isolated communities and increase fuel savings. Renewable energy is, however, a natural source that produces a fluctuating power output. In this paper, hybrid power system of the marado lighthouse is proposed to supply stable power in the stand-alone hybrid power system. The proposed hybrid power system consists of the diesel generator, wind turbine, photovoltaic, fuel cell, and battery bank. To decrease the carbon emissions and find the optimization, the cost analysis of hybrid system is simulated using HOMER program and the optimized hybrid power system is designed.

  • In this paper, a multi-agent control system for DC-coupled photovoltaic (PV), fuel cell (FC), ultracapacitor(UC) and battery hybrid power system is studied for commercial buildings & apartment buildings microgrid. In this proposed system, the PV system provides electric energy to the electrolyzer to produce hydrogen for future use and transfer to the load side, if possible. Whenever the PV system cannot completely meet load demands, the FC system provides power to meet the remaining load. A multi-agent system based-power management and control algorithm is proposed for the hybrid power system by taking into account the characteristics of each power source. The main works of this paper are hybridization of alternate energy sources with FC systems using long and short storage strategies to build the multi-agent control system with pragmatic design, and a dynamic model proposed for a PV/FC/UC/battery bank hybrid power generation system. A dynamic simulation model for the hybrid power system has been developed using Matlab/Simulink, SimPowerSystems and Stateflow. Simulation results are also presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed multi-agent control and management system for building microgrid.

Three different methods for the sound localization will be presented, a time-delay method, a power-attenuation method and a hybrid method. In the power-attenuation method, the powers of the received signals provide a measure of the distances of the source from the sensors. A new hybrid method has been developed for estimating the origin of the underground acoustic source by coupling both methods. The Nelder-Meade simplex search algorithm is then used to numerically estimate the position of the source in those methods. For each method the sound localization is carried out in three dimensions underground. The distance between the true and estimated origins of the source is in some cases less than 6m for a search area of radius 250m.

  • A new kind of resonant impedance type hybrid active filter (RITHAF) is proposed for dynamic harmonic current suppression and high capacity reactive compensation in medium and high voltage systems. This paper analyzed the different performance of the RITHAF when the active part of the RITHAF is controlled as a current source and as a voltage source, respectively. The harmonic suppression function is defined in this paper. The influences of the changes caused by the grid impedance and the detuning of the passive power filter on the compensating characteristics of the RITHAF are studied by analyzing the suppression function. Simulation and industrial application results show that the RITHAF has excellent performances in harmonic suppression and reactive compensation, which is suitable for medium and high voltage systems.
