  • Nanocomposites of three different polyesters with dodecyltriphenylphosphonium-montmorillonite $(C_{12}PPh-MMT)$ as an organoclay are compared with their thermal properties, mechanical properties, and morphologies. Poly (butylene terephthalate) (PBT), poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), and poly(trimethylene terephthalate) (PTT) were used as matrix polymers in the fabrication of polyester nanocomposite fibers. The variations of their properties with organoclay content in the polymer matrix and draw ratio (DR) are discussed. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrographs show that some of the clay layers are dispersed homogeneously within the polymer matrix on the nano-scale, although some clay particles are agglomerated. We also found that the addition of only a small amount of organoclay is enough to improve the thermal stabilities and mechanical properties of the polyester nanocomposite fibers. Even polymers with low organoclay contents $(<5\;wt\%)$ were found to exhibit much higher strength and modulus values than pure polyester fibers. In the cases of all polyester hybrid fibers, the values of the tensile mechanical properties were found to decrease linearly with increasing DR. However, the initial tensile modulus of the PTT hybrid fibers were found to be independent of DR.

  • There has been extensive interest in the development of new nanocomposites. One kind of these systems is the hybrid based on organic polymers and inorganic minerals consisting of layered silicates. Some properties like stiffness, strength, barrier properties, thermal, and oxidative stability can be improved by the presence of the filler in the polymeric matrix[1]. It is reported that, in the nylon 6/clay nanocomposites, the modulus is increased, but impact strength and elongation at break are drastically decreased. (omitted)

  • With increased interest in printed devices, various metal nano inks have been investigated as candidates materials for printed electrodes and wiring as well as conductive film substituting photo-lithography process. Recent advances in organic conductive polymer allow us to fabricate high performance printed device. Meanwhile, there was several attempts to fabricate conductive films by mixing conductive polymer with metal nano-particle or nano-wires. The presence of Ag nanowires in conductive polymer mixture have shown good potential in organic photovoltaic devices.

  • Azobenzene functionalized polymers have been extensively investigated due to the potential applications in the areas of optical switching, optical elements, optical information storage, and nonlinear optics. These applications are mainly achievable due to photoinduced properties of azobenzene groups with photoisomerization and photoinduced anisotropy. We report applications to the optoelectronic devices using inscribed one-(1D) and two-dimensional (2D) SRGs on azo polymer films. The inscribed holographic SRGs patterns were useful to control or enhance optoelectronic properties such as transparent electrode patterning, hybrid solar cell and ultraviolet GaN-based LED.

  • In this study, a novel strategy to prepare a crystallized sample of terpolymer containing high content of ${\gamma}-form$ was experimentally sought. By the foaming process, it was possible for the first time to produce a commercial high molar-mass terpolymer being in a high content of ${\Box}-form$. The large amount of nuclei produced during the foaming process by FIC is ascribed to be the reason. It accounts for the structural disorder in the crystallite formation because of excess amount of chains length for the formation of a stable crystallite.

  • This paper reports the suitability of a domain decomposition technique for the hybrid simulation of dilute polymer solution flows using Eulerian Brownian dynamics and Radial Basis Function Networks (RBFN) based methods. The Brownian Configuration Fields (BCF) and RBFN method incorporates the features of the BCF scheme (which render both closed form constitutive equations and a particle tracking process unnecessary) and a mesh-less method (which eliminates element-based discretisation of domains). However, when dealing with large scale problems, there appear several difficulties: the high computational time associated with the Stochastic Simulation Technique (SST), and the ill-condition of the system matrix associated with the RBFN. One way to overcome these disadvantages is to use parallel domain decomposition (DD) techniques. This approach makes the BCF-RBFN method more suitable for large scale problems.
