High Power Density 50kW Bi-directional Converter for Hybrid Electric Vehicle HDC (하이브리드 자동차용 HDC를 위한 50kW급 고전력밀도 양방향 컨버터)

  • This paper proposed a high-power density bidirectional converter for hybrid electric vehicle high-voltage DC-DC converter(HDC). The conventional HDC has two disadvantages. First, large inductance is required to satisfy the ripple current of inductor by low switching frequency (<20 kHz). Second, large core size is required to prevent the saturation of inductor by high current. Compared with the conventional HDC, the proposed HDC can reduce inductance with SiC-FET for high frequency driving. High-power density of I/O capacitors can be achieved through two-phase interleaved method. The high-power density of inductors can be achieved because the offset current of magnetizing inductance is theoretically terminated by using the differential mode coupled inductor instead of using two single inductors. The validity of the proposed converter is proved through the 50 kW prototype.

  • In this study, the advanced shift control algorithm for parallel type hybrid drivetrain system with automated manual transmission(AMT) is proposed. The AMT can be easily realized by mounting the pneumatic actuators and sensors on the clutch and shift levers of the conventional manual transmission. By using the electronic-controlled AMT, engine and induction machine, it is possible to achieve the integrated control of overall system for the efficiency and the performance of the vehicle. Performing the speed control of the induction machine and the engine, the synchronization at gear shifting and the smooth engagement of clutch can be guaranteed. And it enables to reduce the shift shock and shorten the shift time. Hence, it results in the improvement of shift quality and the driving comfort of the vehicle. Dynamometer-based experiments are carried out to prove the validity of the proposed shift control algorithm.

  • In this paper, we proposed a hybrid type robot that simultaneously surveillance and reconnaissance on the ground and in the air. It was possible to expand the surveillance and reconnaissance range by expanding the surveillance and reconnaissance area of the ground robot and quickly moving to the hidden area through the drone. First, ground robots go to mission areas through drones and perform surveillance and reconnaissance missions for urban warfare or mountainous areas. Second, drones move ground robots quickly. It transmits surveillance and reconnaissance images of ground robots to the control system and performs reconnaissance missions at the same time. Finally, in order to secure the interoperability of these hybrid robots, basic performance and environmental performance were verified. The evaluation method was tested and verified based on the KS standards.

  • Global competition of automotive market, affordable prices of electronic components, and tougher regulations on emission, fuel economy, and safety become the major reason that automotive industries rapidly employ a large number of electric and electronic systems. Considering that the application of electronic technologies for automobile is increasing at a rapid rate, it would be worthwhile to evaluate the trend of the uses of major electric and electronic systems for the 21st century vehicle. The major technology will be leaded by 32/64-bit microcontroller, on-chip flash memory, hybrid ASICs, IGBT, and smart sensors.

Comparative Analysis on Insulation Performance of Traction Motors for Hybrid Vehicles (하이브리드 차량용 견인전동기의 절연성능 비교분석)

  • The object of this paper is to acquire the data related to insulation evaluation of hybrid vehicle traction motors. We made a comparative analysis on Insulation Resistance (IR), Dielectric Absorption Ratio (DAR), and Polarization Index (PI) of the motor stators. The experiment was carried out according to IEEE Std. 43 and IEC 60085-1 for insulation resistance test standard of rotating machinery. Test voltage of 500 V was applied between a phase and the enclosure. The IR and the DAR of used motors were lower than those of new ones. The DAR and the PI were $0.92{\sim}1.02$ and $0.74{\sim}1.1$, respectively and the result did not meet the recommendation basis 2 for insulation level H. From the experimental results, we could prepare parameters and basis for insulation evaluation of the traction motor stator by the comparative analysis of short-time insulation resistance changes, DAR and PI.

  • For OBC (On-Board Charger) and LDC (Low DC-DC Converter) used as essential power conversion systems of PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle), system performance is required as well as reliability, which is need to protect the vehicle and driver from various faults. While current development processor is sufficient for embodying functions and verifying performance in normal state during development of prototypes for OBC and LDC, there is no clear method of verification for various fault situations that occur in abnormal state and for securing stability of vehicle base, unless verification is performed by mounting on an actual vehicle. In this paper, a CCM (Charger Converter Module) was developed as an integrated structure of OBC and LDC. In addition, diverse fault situations that can occur in vehicles are simulated by a simulator to artificially inject into power conversion system and to test whether it operates properly. Also, HILS (Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation) is carried out to verify whether LDC is operated properly under power environment of an actual vehicle.

  • National projects on renewable energy and new energy are driven more actively than ever in many countries for the exhaustion of fossil fuel energy from the turn of the century. Such activities began to spread out in railway industry with centering around west European countries. Electric energy is generated on the hybrid vehicle itself, which contributes to reduction of the cost for construction of the infrastructure required for the supply of electric power. Hybrid tram is mainly composed of propulsion system to control electric energy, automatic guidance system to control steering and operation, and central vehicle unit to control and monitor major electronic devices. Generation and supply of electric power are made by the combination of engine generator and battery, or fuel cell and super capacitor.

  • In this paper, a simulator system for Fuel Cell Hybrid Electric Vehicles(FCHEV) is implemented using DSP boards with CAN bus. The subsystems of a FCHEV i.e., the fuel cell system, the battery system, the vehicle dynamics with the transmission mechanism are coded into 3 DSP boards. The power distribution control algorithm and battery SOC control are also coded into a DSP board. The real-time monitoring program is also developed to examine the control performance of power control and SOC control algorithms.

  • This study proposes a new conceptual Hybrid Electric Brake System (HEBS) which overcomes the problems of the conventional hydraulic brake system. The HEBS uses the contactless brake system when vehicle speed is high to obtain superior braking force by eddy current, which is induced in pole area by magnetic flux through a rotating conductive disk. On the contrary, when a vehicle speed is low, contact type brake system such as conventional hydraulic brake system makes higher braking force.   • In this paper, we proposed a vehicle recognition and electronic toll collection system with detection and classification of vehicle identification mark and emblem as well as recognition of vehicle license plate to unman toll fee collection system or incoming/outcoming vehicles to an institution. In the proposed algorithm, we first process pre-processing step such as noise reduction and thinning from the rear side input image of vehicle and detect vehicle mark, emblem and license plate region using intensity variation informations, template masking and labeling operation. And then, we classify the detected vehicle features regions into vehicle mark and emblem as well as recognize characters and numbers of vehicle license plate using hybrid and seven segment pattern vector. To show the efficiency of the proposed algorithm, we tested it on real vehicle images of implemented vehicle recognition system in highway toll gate and found that the proposed method shows good feature detection/classification performance regardless of irregular environment conditions as well as noise, size, and location of vehicles. And also, the proposed algorithm may be utilized for catching criminal vehicles, unmanned toll collection system, and unmanned checking incoming/outcoming vehicles to an institution.
