  • A hybrid mount featuring elastic rubber and piezoelectric material is devised and applied to the vibration control of a beam structure. The governing equation of the beam structure associated with the hybrid mount is derived. Subsequently, a robust sliding mode controller is designed to attenuate the vibration of the beam structure due to external excitation. The controller is then simulated and control responses such as displacement and transmitted force are evaluated in time and frequency domains.

  • In this study, the design procedure of hybrid active mount by an electro-magnetic actuator is proposed to reduce the transmitted force from naval shipboard equipment to ship hull structure. The hybrid type mount which is composed of a passive rubber element and an electro-magnetic actuator is introduced and, through the vibration measurement for the objective pump system, the required force of the actuator is computed and discussed in detail. The initial designs were supposed for three types, one is moving coil type actuator and the others are moving permanent magnet type actuators. Based on the initial design concept, the final designs considering shock resistance and interference with mover and stator are proposed and examined.

  • A hybrid mount featuring rubber element and piezoelectric actuator is devised to reduce vibration when starting a vehicle engine. As a first step, a passive mount adopting rubber element is manufactured and its dynamic characteristics are experimentally evaluated. After evaluating dynamic characteristics of the manufactured inertial piezoelectric actuator, the proposed hybrid mount is then established by integrating the piezoelectric actuator with the rubber element for performance improvement at non-resonant high frequencies. A mathematical model of the established active vibration control system is formulated and expressed in the state space form. Subsequently, sliding mode controller (SMC) is designed to attenuate the vibration transmitted from the base excitation. Finally, control performances of the proposed hybrid mount are evaluated such as transmissibility in frequency domain and time responses.

  • This paper presents vibration control of an active hybrid engine mount featuring magneto-rheological (MR) fluid and a piezostack actuator. On the basis of the conventional passive rubber mount, MR fluid is adopted to improve isolation performance at resonant frequencies, whereas the piezostack actuator is adopted for performance improvement at non-resonant frequencies, especially at high frequencies. Based on some particular practical requirements of engine mounts, the proposed mount is designed and manufactured. The characteristics of rubber element, piezostack actuator and MR fluid are verified for system analysis and controller synthesis. The model of the proposed mount with a supported mass (engine) is established. In this work, a sliding mode controller is synthesized for the mount system to reduce vibrations transmitted from the engine in a wide frequency range. Computer simulations are performed to evaluate the performances of the proposed active engine mount in time and frequency domains.

  • In this study, a new hybrid mount with a moving-coil-type electromagnetic actuator is developed to reduce the vibration transmitted from naval shipboard equipment to the ship hull structure. The detailed design of the hybrid mount is determined through several design stages with electromagnetic numerical analysis using Maxwell software. The hybrid mount, which combines a rubber mount with an electromagnetic actuator, has a fail-safe function for shock resistance. The mount is fabricated and tested using a universal testing machine to check the design specifications. Finally, control tests are carried out on the hybrid mount to confirm its performance and applicability.

  • This paper presents vibration control performance of active engine mount system installed with the magneto-rheological (MR) mount and the piezostack mount. The performance is evaluated via hardware-in-the-loop-simulation(HILS) method. As a first step, six degrees-of freedom dynamic model of an in-line four-cylinder engine which has three points mounting system is derived by considering the dynamic behaviors of MR mount and piezostack mount. As a second step, sliding mode controller(SMC) is synthesized to actively control the imposed vibration In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed active engine mount, vibration control performances are evaluated under various engine operating speeds (wide frequency range) using HILS method and presented in time and frequency domain.
