  • Charge transport dynamics in ZnO based inverted organic solar cell (IOSC) has been characterized with transient photocurrent spectroscopy and localised photocurrent mapping-atomic force microscopy. The value of maximum exciton generation rate was found to vary from $2.6{\times}10^{27}m^{-3}s^{-1}$ ($J_{sat}=79.7A\;m^{-2}$) to $2.9{\times}10^{27}m^{-3}s^{-1}$ ($J_{sat}=90.8A\;m^{-2}$) for devices with power conversion efficiency ranging from 2.03 to 2.51%. These results suggest that nanorods served as an excellent electron transporting layer that provides efficient charge transport and enhances IOSC device performance. The photovoltaic performance of OSCs with various growth times of ZnO nanorods have been analysed for a comparison between AM1.5G spectrum and local solar spectrum. The simulated PCE of all devices operating under local spectrum exhibited extensive improvement with the gain of 13.3-3.7% in which the ZnO nanorods grown at 15 min possess the highest PCE under local solar with the value of 2.82%.

  • The satellite navigation system is widely used for identifying a user's position regardless of weather or geographic conditions and also make effect on new technology of marine LBS(Location Based Service), which has the technology of geographic information such as the ENC. Generally, there are conceivable systems of marine LBS such as ECDIS, or ECS that use the ENC itself with powerful processor in installed type on ships bridge. Since the ENC is relatively heavy structure with dummy format for data transfer between different systems, we should reduce the ENC to small and compact size in order to use it in mobile platform. In this paper, we assumed that the mobile system like PDA, or Webpad can be used for small capability of mobile platform. However, the ENC should be updated periodically by update profile data produced by HO. If we would reduce the ENC without a consideration of update, we could not get newly updated data furthermore. As summary, we studied considerations for ENC reduction with update capability. It will make the ENC be useful in many mobile platforms for various applications.

  • In the paper, a hybrid technique is proposed for detecting the location and capacity of distributed generation (DG) sources like wind and photovoltaic (PV) in power system. The novelty of the proposed method is the combined performance of both the Biography Based Optimization (BBO) and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) techniques. The mentioned techniques are the optimization techniques, which are used for optimizing the optimum location and capacity of the DG sources for radial distribution network. Initially, the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is applied to obtain the available capacity of DG sources like wind and PV for 24 hours. The BBO algorithm requires radial distribution network voltage, real and power loss for determining the optimum location and capacity of the DG. Here, the BBO input parameters are classified into sub parameters and allowed as the PSO algorithm optimization process. The PSO synthesis the problem and develops the sub solution with the help of sub parameters. The BBO migration and mutation process is applied for the sub solution of PSO for identifying the optimum location and capacity of DG. For the analysis of the proposed method, the test case is considered. The IEEE standard bench mark 33 bus system is utilized for analyzing the effectiveness of the proposed method. Then the proposed technique is implemented in the MATLAB/simulink platform and the effectiveness is analyzed by comparing it with the BBO and PSO techniques. The comparison results demonstrate the superiority of the proposed approach and confirm its potential to solve the problem.

  • Curvularia lunata is an important maize foliar fungal pathogen that distributes widely in maize growing area in China, and several key pathogenic factors have been isolated. An yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) library is a very useful platform to further unravel novel pathogenic factors in C. lunata. To construct a high-quality full length-expression cDNA library from the C. lunata for application to pathogenesis-related protein-protein interaction screening, total RNA was extracted. The SMART (Switching Mechanism At 5' end of the RNA Transcript) technique was used for cDNA synthesis. Double-stranded cDNA was ligated into the pGADT7-Rec vector with Herring Testes Carrier DNA using homologous recombination method. The ligation mixture was transformed into competent yeast AH109 cells to construct the primary cDNA library. Eventually, a high qualitative library was successfully established according to an evaluation on quality. The transformation efficiency was about $6.39{\times}10^5$ transformants/$3{\mu}g$ pGADT7-Rec. The titer of the primary cDNA library was $2.5{\times}10^8cfu/mL$. The numbers for the cDNA library was $2.46{\times}10^5$. Randomly picked clones show that the recombination rate was 88.24%. Gel electrophoresis results indicated that the fragments ranged from 0.4 kb to 3.0 kb. Melanin synthesis protein Brn1 (1,3,8-hydroxynaphthalene reductase) was used as a "bait" to test the sufficiency of the Y2H library. As a result, a cDNA clone encoding VelB protein that was known to be involved in the regulation of diverse cellular processes, including control of secondary metabolism containing melanin and toxin production in many filamentous fungi was identified. Further study on the exact role of the VelB gene is underway.

  • Early-detection and monitoring of toxic chemical gas cloud with chemical detector is essential for reducing the number of casualties. Conventional method for chemical detection and reconnaissance has the limitation in approaching to chemically contaminated site and prompt understanding for the situation. Stand-off detector can detect and identify the chemical gas at a long distance but it cannot know exact distance and position. Chemical detection UAV is an emerging platform for its high mobility and operation safety. In this study, we have conducted chemical gas cloud detection with the stand-off chemical detector and the chemical detection UAV. DMMP vapor was generated in the area where the cloud can be detected through the field of view(FOV) of stand-off chemical detector. Monitoring the vapor cloud with standoff detector, the chemical detection UAV moved back and forth at the area DMMP vapor being generated to detect the chemical contamination. The hybrid detection system with standoff cloud detection and point detection by chemical sensors with UAV seems to be very efficient as a new concept of chemical detection.

  • In electronic textbooks (or e-Textbooks) the traditional paper-based textbooks are enriched with multimedia contents and new features such as interactive multimedia-based simulation, interactive quizzes, and content sharing. It has been envisioned that e-Textbooks will gradually replace the traditional paper-based textbooks in classrooms in the near future. HTML5 is an emerging and promising standard that enables web applications (or apps) to incorporate rich multimedia contents such as video clips, flash movies and simulation-based demonstration, as well as to provide cross-platform functionality which allows the apps to run on a diverse range of platforms. To support rich multimedia contents and cross-platform functionality, with respect to HTML5, this paper presents the new features, compares the current trend of mobile apps (e.g., native, web-based and hybrid apps) for e-Textbook development. In order to investigate the suitability of these three development approaches for e-Textbooks, we present a case study on our recent work in developing e-Textbooks using HTML5 and JavaScript, as well as analyses the challenges associated with HTML5 features (e.g, compatibility with web browsers) for developing e-Textbooks.

  • The 6-DOF parallel manipulator is a closed-kindmatic chain robot manipulator that is capable of providing high structural rigidity and positional accuracy. Because of its advantage, the parallel manipulator have been widely used in many engineering applications such as vehicle/flight driving simulators, rogot maniplators, attachment tool of machining centers, etc. However, the kinematic analysis for the implementation of a real-time controller has some problem because of the lack of an efficient lagorithm for solving its highly nonliner forward kinematic equation, which provides the translational and orientational attitudes of the moveable upper platform from the lenght of manipulator linkages. Generally, Newton-Raphson method has been widely sued to solve the forward kinematic problem but the effectiveness of this methodology depend on how to set initial values. This paper proposes a hybrid method using genetic algorithm(GA) and Newton-Raphson method to solve forward kinematics. That is, the initial values of forward kinematics solution are determined by adopting genetic algorithm which can search grobally optimal solutions. Since determining this values, the determined values are used in Newton-Raphson method for real time calcuation.

  • Elliptic curve cryptography (ECC) can achieve relatively good security with a smaller key length, making it suitable for Internet of Things (IoT) devices. DNA-based encryption has also been proven to have good security. To develop a more secure and stable cryptography technique, we propose a new hybrid DNA-encoded ECC scheme that provides multilevel security. The DNA sequence is selected, and using a sorting algorithm, a unique set of nucleotide groups is assigned. These are directly converted to binary sequence and then encrypted using the ECC; thus giving double-fold security. Using several examples, this paper shows how this complete method can be realized on IoT devices. To verify the performance, we implement the complete system on the embedded platform of a Raspberry Pi 3 board, and utilize an active sensor data input to calculate the time and energy required for different data vector sizes. Connectivity and resilience analysis prove that DNA-mapped ECC can provide better security compared to ECC alone. The proposed method shows good potential for upcoming IoT technologies that require a smaller but effective security system.

  • The design and synthesis of protein-like polymers is a fundamental challenge in materials science. A biomimetic approach is to explore the impact of monomer sequence on non-natural polymer structure and function. We present the aqueous self-assembly of two peptoid polymers into extremely thin two-dimensional (2D) crystalline sheets directed by periodic amphiphilicity, electrostatic recognition and aromatic interactions. Peptoids are sequence-specific, oligo-N-substituted glycine polymers designed to mimic the structure and functionality of proteins. Mixing a 1:1 ratio of two oppositely charged peptoid 36 mers of a specific sequence in aqueous solution results in the formation of giant, free-floating sheets with only 2.7 nm thickness. Direct visualization of aligned individual peptoid chains in the sheet structure was achieved using aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopy. Specific binding of a protein to ligand-functionalized sheets was also demonstrated. The synthetic flexibility and biocompatibility of peptoids provide a flexible and robust platform for integrating functionality into defined 2D nanostructures. In the later part of my talk, we describe the use of metal ions to construct two-dimensional hybrid films that have the ability to self-heal. Incubation of biomimetic peptoid polymers with specific divalent metal ions results in the spontaneous formation of uniform multilayers at the air-water interface. We anticipate that ease of synthesis and transfer of these two-dimensional materials may have many potential applications in catalysis, gas storage and sensing, optics, nanomaterial synthesis, and environmentally responsive scaffolds.
