Feature Recognition for Digitizing Path Generation in Reverse Engineering (역공학에서 측정경로생성을 위한 특징형상 인식)

  • In reverse engineering, data acquisition methodology can generally be categorized into contacting and non-contacting types. Recently, researches on hybrid or sensor fusion of the two types have been increasing. In addition, efficient construction of a geometric model from the measurement data is required, where considerable amount of user interaction to classify and localize regions of interest is inevitable. Our research focuses on the classification of each bounded region into a pre-defined feature shape fer a hybrid measuring scheme, where the overall procedures are described as fellows. Firstly, the physical model is digitized by a non-contacting laser scanner which rapidly provides cloud-of-points data. Secondly, the overall digitized data are approximated to a z-map model. Each bounding curve of a region of interest (featured area) can be 1.aced out based on our previous research. Then each confined area is systematically classified into one of the pre-defined feature types such as floor, wall, strip or volume, followed by a more accurate measuring step via a contacting probe. Assigned to each feature is a specific digitizing path topology which may reflect its own geometric character. The research can play an important role in minimizing user interaction at the stage of digitizing path planning.

  • This paper presents an hour-ahead System Marginal Price (SMP) forecasting framework based on a neural network. Recently, the deregulation in power industries has impacted on the power system operational problems. The bidding strategy of market participants in energy market is highly dependent on the short-term price levels. Therefore, short-term SMP forecasting is a very important issue to market participants to maximize their profits. and to market operator who may wish to operate the electricity market in a stable sense. The proposed hybrid neural network is composed of tow parts. First part of this scheme is pattern classification to input data using Kohonen Self-Organizing Map (SOM) and the second part is SMP forecasting using back-propagation neural network that has three layers. This paper compares the forecasting results using classified input data and unclassified input data. The proposed technique is trained, validated and tested with historical date of Korea Power Exchange (KPX) in 2002.

  • In this study a turboshaft engine for a helicopter propulsion system was modeled using SIMULINK and the components' maps were generated from the limited performance deck data provided by engine supplier using a hybrid method with the genetic algorithms and the system identification method. In order to verify the SIMULINK performance model and the component maps generated by the hybrid method, the steady-state performance analysis results were compared with the performance data provided by engine manufacturer. In this investigation, it was confirmed that the analysis results by the proposed model are closely met with those by engine manufacturer's data.

  • guanidinoacetate methyltransferase (GAMT) catalyzes the last step of creatine biosynthesis in mammals. Creatine plays an important role in cellular energy metabolism in variety of tissues including brain and male reproductive tract. Congenital deficiency of the enzyme leads to a neurologic disorder in humans. We used an interspecific backcross DNA panel to map Gamt to the central region of mouse Chromosome (Chr) 10 near the locus of hesitant mutation affecting male fertility. We assigned the human GAMT gene to Chr 19 by PCR analysis of a human/rodent somatic hybrid cell line DNA panel, and further localized the human gene to Chr 19 at band p13.3 by PCR analysis of a human radiation hybrid DNA panel. Human chr 19p13.3 is homologous to the central part of mouse Chr 10 where mouse Gamt is located. Furthermore, this part of mouse Chr 10 contains mutant loci the phenotype of which is similar to the GAMT deficiency in human.

Hybrid Stereo Matching Algorithm for Reliable Disparity Estimation (신뢰도 높은 변이추정을 위한 하이브리드 스테레오 정합 알고리듬)

  • 본 논문에서는 다양한 변이 추정 방식 중 영역기반(Area-based) 알고리듬과 특정기반(Feature-based) 알고리듬을 결합한 하이브리드(Hybrid) 변이추정 알고리듬을 제안한다. 제안하는 알고리듬은 Features from Accelerated Segment Test(FAST) 코너 점 추출기[2]를 이용하여 좌, 우 영상 각각의 특징 점을 추출한 후, 특징 점들의 정보를 이용한 스테레오 정함을 통해 신뢰도 높은 초기 변이지도(Disparity map)를 생생하게 된다. 그러나 생성된 초기 변이지도는 조밀하지 못하므로, 조밀한 변이 지도를 획득하기 위해 특징점이 추출된 영역에 대해서는 추정된 초기 변이 값을 이웃 픽셀과의 색 유사도를 고려하여 전파시키고 특징 점이 추출되지 않은 영역에 대해서는 이진 윈도우(Binary window)를 활용한 영역기반 변이추정 알고리듬[1]을 이용하여 변이 값을 추정한다. 이를 통해, 제안 알고리듬은 특징 기반 알고리듬에서 발생할 수 있는 보간법 문제를 해결함과 동시에 신뢰도가 높은 초기 변이지도를 사용함으로써, 영역 기반 알고리듬의 정합 오차를 줄여 신뢰도 높은 변이지도를 생생할 수 있다. 실험 결과 추정된 초기 변이지도는 ground truth와 비교 시 약 99%이상의 정확도를 보이며, 특징 점이 추출된 영역에서 기존의 영역기반 알고리듬보다 더 정확한 변이 값이 추정되었음을 확인하였다.

DP-LinkNet: A convolutional network for historical document image binarization

  • Document image binarization is an important pre-processing step in document analysis and archiving. The state-of-the-art models for document image binarization are variants of encoder-decoder architectures, such as FCN (fully convolutional network) and U-Net. Despite their success, they still suffer from three limitations: (1) reduced feature map resolution due to consecutive strided pooling or convolutions, (2) multiple scales of target objects, and (3) reduced localization accuracy due to the built-in invariance of deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs). To overcome these three challenges, we propose an improved semantic segmentation model, referred to as DP-LinkNet, which adopts the D-LinkNet architecture as its backbone, with the proposed hybrid dilated convolution (HDC) and spatial pyramid pooling (SPP) modules between the encoder and the decoder. Extensive experiments are conducted on recent document image binarization competition (DIBCO) and handwritten document image binarization competition (H-DIBCO) benchmark datasets. Results show that our proposed DP-LinkNet outperforms other state-of-the-art techniques by a large margin. Grid-based Gaussian process models for longitudinal genetic data

  • Although various statistical methods have been developed to map time-dependent genetic factors, most identified genetic variants can explain only a small portion of the estimated genetic variation in longitudinal traits. Gene-gene and gene-time/environment interactions are known to be important putative sources of the missing heritability. However, mapping epistatic gene-gene interactions is extremely difficult due to the very large parameter spaces for models containing such interactions. In this paper, we develop a Gaussian process (GP) based nonparametric Bayesian variable selection method for longitudinal data. It maps multiple genetic markers without restricting to pairwise interactions. Rather than modeling each main and interaction term explicitly, the GP model measures the importance of each marker, regardless of whether it is mostly due to a main effect or some interaction effect(s), via an unspecified function. To improve the flexibility of the GP model, we propose a novel grid-based method for the within-subject dependence structure. The proposed method can accurately approximate complex covariance structures. The dimension of the covariance matrix depends only on the number of fixed grid points although each subject may have different numbers of measurements at different time points. The deviance information criterion (DIC) and the Bayesian predictive information criterion (BPIC) are proposed for selecting an optimal number of grid points. To efficiently draw posterior samples, we combine a hybrid Monte Carlo method with a partially collapsed Gibbs (PCG) sampler. We apply the proposed GP model to a mouse dataset on age-related body weight.

A Robust Depth Map Upsampling Against Camera Calibration Errors (카메라 보정 오류에 강건한 깊이맵 업샘플링 기술)

  • Recently, fusion camera systems that consist of depth sensors and color cameras have been widely developed with the advent of a new type of sensor, time-of-flight (TOF) depth sensor. The physical limitation of depth sensors usually generates low resolution images compared to corresponding color images. Therefore, the pre-processing module, such as camera calibration, three dimensional warping, and hole filling, is necessary to generate the high resolution depth map that is placed in the image plane of the color image. However, the result of the pre-processing step is usually inaccurate due to errors from the camera calibration and the depth measurement. Therefore, in this paper, we present a depth map upsampling method robust these errors. First, the confidence of the measured depth value is estimated by the interrelation between the color image and the pre-upsampled depth map. Then, the detailed depth map can be generated by the modified kernel regression method which exclude depth values having low confidence. Our proposed algorithm guarantees the high quality result in the presence of the camera calibration errors. Experimental comparison with other data fusion techniques shows the superiority of our proposed method.

Cancer subtype's classifier based on Hybrid Samples Balanced Genetic Algorithm and Extreme Learning Machine (하이브리드 균형 표본 유전 알고리즘과 극한 기계학습에 기반한 암 아류형 분류기)

  • In this paper a novel cancer subtype's classifier based on Hybrid Samples Balanced Genetic Algorithm with Extreme Learning Machine (hSBGA-ELM) is presented. Proposed cancer subtype's classifier uses genes' expression data of 16063 genes from open Global Cancer Map (GCM) data base for accurate cancer subtype's classification. Proposed method efficiently classifies 14 subtypes of cancer (breast, prostate, lung, colorectal, lymphoma, bladder, melanoma, uterus, leukemia, renal, pancreas, ovary, mesothelioma and CNS). Proposed hSBGA-ELM unifies genes' selection procedure and cancer subtype's classification into one framework. Proposed Hybrid Samples Balanced Genetic Algorithm searches a reduced robust set of genes responsible for cancer subtype's classification from 16063 genes available in GCM data base. Selected reduced set of genes is used to build cancer subtype's classifier using Extreme Learning Machine (ELM). As a result, reduced set of robust genes guarantees stable generalization performance of the proposed cancer subtype's classifier. Proposed hSBGA-ELM discovers 95 genes probably responsible for cancer. Comparison with existing cancer subtype's classifiers clear indicates efficiency of the proposed method.

Multi-sensor Fusion based Autonomous Return of SUGV (다중센서 융합기반 소형로봇 자율복귀에 대한 연구)

  • Unmanned ground vehicles may be operated by remote control unit through the wireless communication or autonomously. However, the autonomous technology is still challenging and not perfectly developed. For some reason or other, the wireless communication is not always available. If wireless communication is abruptly disconnected, the UGV will be nothing but a lump of junk. What was worse, the UGV can be captured by enemy. This paper suggests a method, autonomous return technology with which the UGV can autonomously go back to a safer position along the reverse path. The suggested autonomous return technology for UGV is based on multi-correlated information based DB creation and matching. While SUGV moves by remote-control, the multi-correlated information based DB is created with the multi-sensor information; the absolute position of the trajectory is stored in DB if GPS is available and the hybrid MAP based on the fusion of VISION and LADAR is stored with the corresponding relative position if GPS is unavailable. In multi-correlated information based autonomous return, SUGV returns autonomously based on DB; SUGV returns along the trajectory based on GPS-based absolute position if GPS is available. Otherwise, the current position of SUGV is first estimated by the relative position using multi-sensor fusion followed by the matching between the query and DB. Then, the return path is created in MAP and SUGV returns automatically based on the MAP. Experimental results on the pre-built trajectory show the possibility of the successful autonomous return.
