  • Pantyhose is a close-fitting garment. Consumers are highly sensitive to any progress done in fitting their lower body and increasing comfort. However, pantyhose manufactured in Korea are only one-sized. The purpose of this study is to suggest the size designation of pantyhose, using new human body measurement data which were gained from the Year 2004 SIZE KOREA project. For the purpose of this study, the ISO standards and JIS standards were reviewed and questionnaire was carried out to manufacturers and distribution companies. The results are as follows: First, for a difference with size standards established in 2002, applicable age range was expanded from 15 to 70 year-old women to entirely include persons who wear panty hose. Secondly considering the actual condition that panty hose is producing in single size in most companies due to its elasticity of material, number of size was reduced from five to four. Thirdly basic parts of body which were applied to panty hose are height and hip girth. And size of panty hose is decided by a chart which is composed of height-axis and hip-axis.

  • The development of foundation garment pattern on the typical adult women's body was carried out. By means of the flatted body surface shell, the foundation garment pattern was developed. And its fitting test also performed. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; 1. The investigated Foundation basic pattern was made by the allowing the maximum bust size without any surplus since it was based on the tight-fitted model drawing technique. The investigated the completed pattern was designed in three parts of front and back body, including bust. 2. The result showed by overlapping the torso basic pattern foundation and body surface development selected from body almost the same except for the shift of dart position. 3. The result by overlapping basic pattern 3 existing basic patterns. On the basis of top-bust line showed that the setting up the volume of dart of bust and its waist affect the appearance of model. Especially, it was found that the above result was related to the bust and under bust line. 4. The result of the wearing test of 3 existing basic patterns and basic pattern of this study revealed that the mean values of whole items were higher than average in type P and type E. The fitting & position of under-bust line and extent of wrapping bust showed the high points in the current study and type of P. The result of evaluating the whole appearance in three points(front, side, back) showed different according to the every basic foundation garment pattern.

  • Online shoppers are not able to try clothing on. Therefore, the pictures of clothing on the website play a significant role when shoppers make decision on their purchase. There are generally three different ways to show clothing at online shops. The first one is showing only clothing images, and the second one is showing the pictures that have actual fitting models wearing clothing on (In this case, Model's face is mostly not shown in the picture.), and the third is showing the pictures of professional fitting models who wear goods. The shopping malls adopt each of the different ways but little is known about affect on purchasing from these three ways. The aim of this study is to figure out how the online shopper's emotional status is affected by these three ways of presenting pictures of clothing. At first, we developed a set of adjective words of human emotion to set up the evaluation criteria for user's emotional status. Those adjectives are originally from the precedent research on human emotion. To cut 99 adjectives down to a proper number for the criteria, we conducted a preliminary survey, and finally, 5 adjectives are selected as appropriate criteria for evaluating users' emotional status while they are shopping. Those five adjectives are 'possess','sensual', 'unique', 'tasteful', and 'stylish'. Then, we conducted the main survey showing 10 kinds of cloth (each cloth was consist of 3 ways). And in the page of model images, we measured the model's preference for understanding the relation with customer's emotion criteria of the product. As a result of the test there was statistically significant difference between product only images and anonymous images, but there was no significant difference between anonymous images and model images. And the preference of the model and value of the emotion criteria have large correlation except 'unique' criteria. It is expected that the result in this study will help to build new marketing strategy which satisfy customers' emotion.

  • Clothing pressure is closely connected with the degree of comfort of an athlete's tight-fitting garments. Therefore, the construction of sports garments is very important to the wearer's athletic performance. In this study, the fundamental relationship between the reduction rates of stretch fabrics and clothing pressure was explored with the aim of improving clothing comfort and obtaining a systematic pattern reduction for women's tight-fitting bodysuits. A women's bodysuit pattern was obtained by the draping method using a dressform. The basic pattern was divided into four parts and changed into reduced pattems according to the amount of fabric stretch determined by ASTM D2594. Clothing pressure was measured using an air-pack-type pressure sensor (model AMI 3037-2) at 20 locations (shoulder, 9 locations; bust, 5; and armhole, 6). Among the 15 garments tested, the mean pressure of the A1 bodysuit was 4.60 $gf/cm^2$, and that of the C5 bodysuit was 22.98 $gf/cm^2$. The mean pressures of the bodysuits with reduction rates of 10% and 20% were below 10 $gf/cm^2$, while those of suits with reduction rates of 30%,40%, and 50% (except C5) were below 20 $gf/cm^2$. The pressure at the shoulder was 9.50$\sim$32.24 $gf/cm^2$, which was higher than that at the bust (3.34$\sim$24.56 $gf/cm^2$) and the armhole (0.95$\sim$12.15 $gf/cm^2$). The mean pressures of the 15 bodysuits were divided into five groups using analysis of variance (ANOVA), and were found to be significantly different (p<0.001). Regression analysis afforded the following expression: mean pressure ($gf/cm^2$) = 1.607 + 0.369[reduction rate (%)].

  • In this study, the automatic tracking algorithm tracing a human face is proposed by using YCbCr color coordinated information and its thermal properties expressed in terms of thermal indexes in an infra-red image. The facial candidates are separately estimated in CbCr color and infra-red domain, respectively with applying the morphological image processing operations and the geometrical shape measures for fitting the elliptical features of a human face. The identification of a true face is accomplished by logical 'AND' operation between the refined image in CbCr color and infra-red domain.

  • Using two large coast guard ships at sea, we created four encounter situations ($000^{\circ}$, $045^{\circ}$, $090^{\circ}$, $135^{\circ}$) with high possibility of collision, from 3 NM up to 0.25 NM. As relative distance was gradually decreased, the subjects were measured at 0.25 NM intervals and perceived ship collision risk (PSCR) was determined by looking at the opponent ship. Characteristics were statistically analyzed using the obtained data. The purpose of this study was to analyze the characteristics of collision risk values obtained from twelve intervals, from 3 NM to 0.25 NM relative to encounter situations by curve fitting with appropriate polynomials, to determine the distance from which the change in perceived collision risk is greatest. As a result, an optimal regression equation for each distance interval was derived from each analysis direction. The greatest variation in average collision risk value was over the range 1.25 ~ 1 NM, and the collision risk value was largest at 1 NM. The maximum change in perceived collision risk was at 1 NM. These results can contribute to preventive guidelines to minimize human error in close proximity situations with a high probability of ship collision.

  • One of the latest social trends is to reappear old things under the banner of the revival. It is easily found in the fashion industry because Fashion is not divided into the past, the present and the future thing but coexisting through all ages. The purpose of this study was to pursue the healthy and characteristic beauty of the modem people by understanding the beauty culture of the ancient. The Middle ages were mainly classified into Byzantine, Romanesque and Gothic by historical and cultural factors. In the Byzantine age, the clothing with rich silhouette was worn by the influence of the abstemious religion and it didn't express a specific proportion of human body. The people covered their hair with turbans and veils for the period. The Romanesque era was affected by the religious idealism and the Greek-Roman culture. The ideal proportion of human body could be 8 heads high and the clothes expressing natural silhouette of human body came out. Depending on the feel of the flowing texture, long-braided hair was typical in that time, and also wearing kinds of head dress as personal ornaments was characteristic in the age. In the period of Gothic, the long and weak human body was emphasized. The ideal proportion of human body could be figured with 8.5 heads high and it was expressed with the form of artificial and vertical silhouette such like tight-fitting upper garments, gathered skirts and long hats.

  • In this paper, peak acceleration for horizontal vibration of buildings was estimated from the results of vibration tests using a shaking table. Human comfort of occupants is supposed to be satisfied according to the peak acceleration in NBCC and ISO6897, which have been used by Korean structural engineers. In the paper, we used a one-dimensional shaking table for horizontal vibration tests, which was mounted with a vibration house similar to a living space. Experimental results were obtained according to increasing accelerations in the range of 0.2Hz through 1.2Hz of frequency with five experimental groups, each of which was composed of eight persons. We obtained performance curves by dividing the distribution of perception from horizontal vibration tests into the ranges of 0${\sim}$25%, 26${\sim}$50%, 51${\sim}$75%, 76${\sim}$100% and then fitting the curves. Also we made a questionnaire based on human comfort criteria of foreign countries, and examined the feelings of subjects. From the results of horizontal vibration tests, it was found that acceleration of perception was low when frequency was high, and that visual and auditory senses affect the human perception for horizontal vibration of buildings.
