  • Among human body parts, the human face has been studied the most actively for the interlace between humans and computers because face has statistic consistency in color, shape and texture. Those characteristics make computers detect and track human faces in images robustly and accurately. The human face consists of eyes, nose, mouth, eyebrows and other features, Detecting and tracking each feature have been researched. The open mouth is the largest in size and the easiest to detect among them, In this study, we present a system which can move mouse pointer using the position and state of the mouth.

  • The automation of agricultural machines is an irreversible trend considering the demand for improved productivity and lack of labor in handling agricultural tasks. Unstructured working environments and weather often inhibit a seemingly simple task from being fully autonomously performed. In this context, we propose a remote driving system (RDS) to aid agricultural machines designed to operate autonomously. Particularly, we modify a commercial speed sprayer for orchard environments into a robotic speed sprayer to evaluate the proposed RDS's usability and test three sensor configurations in terms of human performance. Furthermore, we propose a confidence error ellipsebased task performance measure to evaluate human performance. In addition, we present field experimental results describing how the sensor configurations affect human performance. We find that a combination of a semiautonomous line tracking device and a wide-angle camera is the most effective for spraying. Finally, we discuss how to improve the proposed RDS in terms of usability and obtain a more accurate measure of human performance.

  • Approximately 45% of the human genome is comprised of transposable elements (TEs). Results from the Human Genome Project have emphasized the biological importance of TEs. Many studies have revealed that TEs are not simply "junk" DNA, but rather, they play various roles in processes, including genome evolution, gene expression regulation, genetic instability, and cancer disposition. The effects of TE insertion in the genome varies from negligible to disease conditions. For the past two decades, many studies have shown that TEs are the causative factors of various genetic disorders and cancer. TEs are a subject of interest worldwide, not only in terms of their clinical aspects but also in basic research, such as evolutionary tracking. Although active TEs contribute to genetic instability and disease states, non-long terminal repeat transposons are well studied, and their roles in these processes have been confirmed. In this review, we will give an overview of the importance of TEs in studying genome evolution and genetic instability, and we suggest that further in-depth studies on the mechanisms related to these phenomena will be useful for both evolutionary tracking and clinical diagnostics.

  • This paper presents reference ZMP trajectory generation and implementation for a biped robot via linear inverted dumbbell model (LIDM), which can consider the effect of external momentum on the center of mass (COM) of robot. Based on a reference ZMP trajectory derived by using LIDM, a base trajectory is proposed not only to make the locomotion of robot similar to that of human but also to facilitate its implementation and tuning. In order to realize a dynamic walking using the proposed trajectory, compliance, impedance and ZMP tracking controllers are adopted together. Extensive experiments show that the proposed locomotion of a biped robot is stable and also, similar to that of human. Further researches on balance recovery of a biped robot will be carried out to guarantee its robust locomotion in combination with the proposed trajectory.

  • In this paper, the parallel model for stereo camera is employed to find the heralding angle and the distance between a leading vehicle and the following vehicle, BART(Binocular Autonomous Research Team vehicle). Two TDNNs (Time Delay Neural Network) such as S-TDNN and A-TDNN are introduced to control BART. S-TDNN controls the speed of the following vehicle while A-TDNN controls the steering angle of BATR. A human drives BART to collect data which are used for training the said neural networks. The trained networks performed the vehicle tracking function satisfactorily under the same driving conditions performed by the human driver. The neural network approach has good portability which decreases costs and saves development time for the different types of vehicles.

  • In recent years, there has been increased interest in characterizing and extracting 3D information from 2D images for human tracking and identification. In this paper, we propose a single view-based framework for robust estimation of height and position. In the proposed method, 2D features of target object is back-projected into the 3D scene space where its coordinate system is given by a rectangular marker. Then the position and the height are estimated in the 3D space. In addition, geometric error caused by inaccurate projective mapping is corrected by using geometric constraints provided by the marker. The accuracy and the robustness of our technique are verified on the experimental results of several real video sequences from outdoor environments.

  • This study is about e-Book program based on human-computer interaction(HCI) system for physically handicapped person. By acquiring background knowledge of HCI, we know that if we use vision-based interface we can replace current computer input devices by extracting any characteristic point and tracing it. We decided betweeneyes as a characteristic point by analyzing facial input image using webcam. But because of three-dimensional structure of glasses, the person who is wearing glasses wasn't suitable for tracing between-eyes. So we changed characteristic point to the bridge of the nose after detecting between-eyes. By using this technique, we could trace rotation of head in real-time regardless of glasses. To test this program's usefulness, we conducted an experiment to analyze the test result on actual application. Consequently, we got 96.5% rate of success for controlling e-Book under proper condition by analyzing the test result of 20 subjects.

  • The recognition of human gestures in image sequences is an important and challenging problem that enables a host of human-computer interaction applications. This paper describes a gesture recognition algorithm based on the particle filters, namely CONDENSATION. The particle filter is more efficient than any other tracking algorithm because the tracking mechanism follows Bayesian estimation rule of conditional probability propagation. We used two models for the evaluation of particle Inter and apply the MATLAB for the preprocessing of the image sequence. But we implement the particle filter using the C++ to get the high speed processing. In the experimental results, it is demonstrated that the proposed algorithm prove to be robust in the cluttered environment.
