A Study on the correlation between Drinking and MMPI in lunar cycle (달의 주기(週期)에 따른 음주(飮酒)와 인성(人性)과의 연관성(聯關性)에 관(關)한 조사연구(調査硏究))

  • In this study the author had attempted to establish a correlation among alcohol use and MMPI and lunar cycle. MMPI was carried on 2, April 1992(the last day of the second lunar month) and 15, June 1992(the fifteenth day of the fifth lunar month). These experiments took male and female students who were in WON KWANG University as subjects. The results of it suggested the followings. 1) Drinkers and normal subjects average of T-score in each scales were in a normal scores. 2) In every scales except L,K,Si scales drinkers showed higher scores than normal subjects. There was a significant difference on L, F, Pd, Pa, Sc, Ma scales. 3) On the fifteenth day of the month, drinkers showed Higher T-Scores than normal subjects in every scales excepts L,K,Si scales. There was a significant difference in Ma scale. 4) On the last day of the month, drinkers showed higher T-scores than normal subjects in every scales except L,K,Mf,Si scales. There was a significant difference on L, F, Pd, Sc, Ma scales. 5) Drinkers showed higher than normal subjects in symptom of neurosis and psychosis. As the results of above, human character changes to some extend according to alcohol use. There is a tendency that repeated drinking of college students prone to change into habitual drinking or alcoholic impairment. So controlled drinking among the college students is highly recommended.

Association between ESR1 rs1884051 polymorphism and dietary total energy and plant protein intake on obesity in Korean men

  • ESR1 has been listed in the Human Obesity Gene Map as candidate gene associated with obesity. Thus, in this study, we investigated the effect of the ESR1 rs1884051 polymorphism on obesity-related variables, together with their modulations by dietary intake in Korean men. The obesity-related variables and dietary intake of 3,039 Korean men aged 40-59 years from KoGES database were analyzed. Body weight (P = 0.007), BMI (P = 0.003), waist-hip ratio (= 0.011), fat body mass (P = 0.010), and body fat percentage (P = 0.040) were significantly lower in subjects with the minor T allele of ESR1 rs1884051 than in subjects carrying the C allele. Moreover, the rs1884051 T allele was associated with a decreased risk of obesity prevalence (P = 0.040). Among the subjects whose total energy intake was below the median, carrier of the minor T allele of ESR1 rs1884051 had a lower BMI (P = 0.003) when compared with subjects carrying the C allele. In addition, among subjects whose plant protein intake was above the median, carrier of the minor T allele of ESR1 rs1884051 had a lower BMI (P = 0.044) compared with subjects carrying the C allele. Our findings demonstrate that there is a significant association between the ESR1 rs1884051 variant and obesity-related variables and this association can be potentially modified by dietary energy and plant protein intake.

A Study on SElf-Recognized Monosodium Glutamate Symptom Complex in Eating Out of Housewives in Inchone (외식관련 MSG복합증후군 자각경험에 관한 연구-인천지역 주부를 중심으로-)

  • This study was carried out through questionnaire in order to investigate the self-recognized monosodium glutamate (MSG) symptom complex in the eating out of housewives. The subjects were 503 housewives in Inchon and the results are summarized as follows. As for age, 51.9% of subjects were over 40 years old. Also 60.0% of the subjects received a high school education. As for occupation, full-time housewives accounted for 63.7%. Monthly household income of most subjects were 1 million won or more, and monthly food expenses for most subjects were over 300 thousand won or more. Also 71.0% of the subjects lived in apartments. As for frequency of eating out, 69.5% of subjects ate out I~2 times a month, 21.6% did 3~4 times a month, 4.5% did 7 times or more/month and 3.6% did 5~6 times a month. The higher education level, family income or food expense of subjects were, the more they ate out. Most subjects selected the menu of eating out according to preference of family. Also 63.6% of the subjects considered the amount of MSG in eating out. As for menus containing high amount of MSG, 55.8% of subject answered Korean dishes, 31.1% did Chinese dishes. After eating out, 25.1% of subjects perceived MSG symptom complex, such as thirst, tiredness and rapid heart beat, etc. Therefore, it may be necessary to reduce the amount of MSG in eating out and to develop safe and delicious menus of eating out using various natural foods.

  • Dust-free garment prevents contamination which otherwise is caused by skin and clothes to protect from dust or dirt. Therefore, it requires high performance and should function as a working clothes. Clothes are a medium between human and thermal environmental system, and it is required to study human enviroment to ensure comfortableness of clothes and to satisfactorily go along with enviroment .This study investigates the physical and physiological features of dust-free garment used in the clean room at a semiconductor factory in oredr to scientifically clarify what the dust-free garmint is as well as to contribute to the design and development of high performance material and clothes. Three kinds of dust-free fabrics (DFG-I, DFG-II, DFG-III) which are being developed by a local company are used to manufacture dust-free garment. These dust-free garments are dressed and tested in such an enviroment as similar to semiconmemts with temperature at 23${\pm}$1$^{\circ}C$ and humidity at 50${\pm}$5%RH in order to investigate the thermo physiological and psychological features of human body. The results of this study are as follows. The results of this study are as follows. 1.The mean skin temperature was significantly different among the clothes, subjects and experimental time. Temperature tends to rise from the time of exercising load. Continuous motion coupled sealed clothes prevents heat transmittance, and temperature rises in the order of DFG-l, DFG-ll and DFG-lll as time course. 2.As for the skin temperature by local timperature is minimun on the head and torso and increares remarkably at the terminal part of human body. 3. As for the body mass loss was significantly higher in DFG-lll than DFG-l and DFG-ll. 4. Though there is no significant difference in the temperature within clothes among the kind of clothes temperature is 1$^{\circ}C$ higher in the back. Temperature within all the dust-free garments 29.7$^{\circ}C$ in the back and 31.3$^{\circ}C$ in the chest which belong to the comfort zone(31-33$^{\circ}C$). The relative humidity is 39.7%RH in the chest and 33.8%RH in the back which is slightly below the comfort zone(40-60%RH) 5. The thermal sensation belong to the comfort zone regardless of the kinds of clothes. The subjects feels a slight fatigue as times goes. As for the subjective sense of subjects the mean skin temperature as well as temperature and humidity within clothes show similar tendency. This means that they relate with each other.

Plasma Gastrin Concentration after a Carbohydrate Meal and a Protein Meal in Normal Human Subjects (식후 정상 한국인의 혈장 gastrin 농도)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of the ingestion of rice and hamburger meals upon the plasma gastrin concentration in normal human subjects in Korea. Eight normal human subjects including male and female with the mean age of 28 years (range: 20-40 years) were studied. After an overnight(about 15 hrs) fast each subject ingested a rice meal and a hamburger meal on different days. The rice meal consisted of 250 g boiled rice, 50 g vegetables and 200 ml barley tea, corresponding to 6.8 g protein, 0.5 g fat and 81g carbohydrate and the hamburger meal consisted of 200 g hamburger, 50 g vegetables ana 200 ml milk, corresponding to 43 g protein, 43 g fat and 9 g carbohydrate. The venous blood samples were drawn before and after the ingestion of the test meal at the following times: -30, 0, 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, and 120 min, for measurement of gastrin by radioimmunoassay. The following results were obtained : 1) Plasma gastrin concentration in response to the ingestion of the rice or the hamburger meal increased significantly compared with the concentration in fasting state. 2) The increase of the plasma gastrin concentration after the hamburger meal was significantly higher than that after the rice meal. 3) There was a significant linear correlation between the postprandial peak plasma gastrin concentration after the rice meal and the concentration after the hamburger meal in each subject. It is inferred from the above results that a carbohydrate meal as well as a protein meal has a stimulatory effect on gastrin release in normal human subjects.

Batch Variation and Pharmacokinetics of Oral Sustained Release Melatonin-loaded Sugar Spheres in Human Subjects

  • The three different batches of an oral sustained release melatonin (MT) delivery system were prepared by aqueous-based fluid-bed coating of the sugar spheres for the evaluation of in vitro release characteristics and plasma concentration profiles in human subjects. The MT contents in 20% coated sugar spheres of three batches (B1, B2 and B3) were $3.3{\pm}0.08$, $2.4{\pm}0.1$ and $2.5{\pm}0.13$ mg per gram of coated sugar spheres, respectively. The release profiles of three different batches had a very similar fashion. However, the release profiles of three different batches had a very similar fashion. However, the release half-lives $(T_{50%})$ of MT from B1, B2 and B3 was $3.70{\pm}0.2$, $5.2{\pm}0.2$ and $4.9{\pm}0.07h$, respectively. Plasma concentration profiles of sustained release 0.2mg melatonin-loaded sugar spheres containing 10% immediate release melatonin in gelatin capsules (B1 and B2) were then evaluated in human subjects. The in vivo plasma concentration profies of the two batches (B1 and B2) were very similar each other and located between the physiological endogenous ranges. The time to reach the peak concentration $(T_max)$ was more advanced in case of B1 when compared to B2. However, there was no statistically significant difference in the maximum concentration $(C_max)$ and the area under the curve (AUC) between B1 and B2. The AUC of melatonin-loaded sugar spheres containing 10% and 20% immediate release MT in human subjects had a good linearity between dose and AUC, regardless of the fraction of immediate release MT, indicating the first order elimination process of MT within these doses. The current oral sustained release MT delivery system may be utilized to treat circadian rhythm disorders if it is proven to be more clinically useful when compared to immediate release MT.

  • This paper presents an Electrotactile Display System (ETCS). One of the most important human sensory systems for human computer interaction is the sense of touch, which can be displayed to human through tactile output devices. To realize the sense of touch, electrotactile display produces controlled, localized touch sensation on the skin by passing small electric current. In electrotactile stimulation, the mechanoreceptors in the skin may be stimulated individually in order to display the sense of vibration, touch, itch, tingle, pressure etc. on the finger, palm, arm or any suitable location of the body by using appropriate electrodes and waveforms. We developed an ETCS and investigated effectiveness of the proposed system in terms of the perception of roughness of a surface by stimulating the palmar side of hand with different waveforms and the perception of direction and location information through forearm. Positive and negative pulse trains were tested with different current intensities and electrode switching times on the forearm or finger of the user with an electrode-embedded armband in order to investigate how subjects recognize displayed patterns and directions of stimulation.

  • 한 문장의 주어가 우리말에서처럼 수의적으로 나타날 수 있는가 혹은 영어에서처럼 반드시 표면에 나타나야 하는가에 따라 공주어언어 (null-subject language)와 비공주어언어(non-null-subject language)로 분류된다. 이러한 주어 탈락 현상에 대하여 이론적으로 다양한 가설이 제기되어 왔다. 본 논문에서는 한국어의 언어 습득 자료에 나타나는 주어 탈락의 양상을 살피고, 이를 비공주어언어인 영어자료와 공주어언어인 이탈리아어, 포르투갈어, 중국어자료와 비교함으로써 궁극적으로 이론적 가설을 비교 평가하는 데 이바지하고자 한다.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a Multi-joint rehabilitation system (CMRS : C&R Lab. Multi-joint Rehabilitation System). This study presents the mechanism of rehabilitation system that enables rehabilitation of multi-joint with kinematical analysis for joints of human body. Also, the relative positioning between human subjects and the head part to rehabilitate for the mechanism is based on robotics and anatomy. This study was verified with simulations. Finally, Automation of positioning was realized. Rehabilitation exercises in passive mode were enabled with the results.

  • The main objective of this study was to find urban housewives' expenditure behavior type. For this objective 4 dimensions of income expenditure behavior were classified with factor analysis and correlation coefficient and then cluster analysis was implemented. Subjects were housewives living in Seoul. As a result, three income expenditure behavior type were defined. They were type of high interested in income expenditure, time oriented type, and money oriented type.
