A Case Study on Designing a Console Design Review System Considering Operators' Viewing Range and Anthropometric Data

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to introduce an operator console design review system suitable for designing and evaluating consoles based on human factor guidelines for a digitalized main control room in an advanced nuclear power plant which has a requirement for anthropometric data usage. Background: The system interface of the main control room in a nuclear power plant has been getting digitalized and consists of various consoles with many information displays. Console operators often face human-computer interactive problems due to inappropriate console design stemming from the perceptual constraints of anthropometric data usage. Method: Computational models with a process of visual perception and variables of anthropometric data are used for designing and evaluating operator consoles suitable for human system interface guidelines, which are used in an advanced nuclear power plant. Results: From the computational model and simulation application, console dimensions and a designing test module, which would be used for designing suitable consoles with safety concerns in a nuclear power plant, have been introduced. Conclusion: This case study may influence employing a suitable design concept with various anthropometric data in many areas with safety concerns and may show a feasible solution to designing and evaluating the safety console dimensions. Application: The results of this study may be used for designing a control room with the human factors requiring a safe working environment.

로봇은 살아 있을까? : 우리 반 교사보조로봇에 대한 유아의 인식 (Is Robot Alive? : Young Children's Perception of a Teacher Assistant Robot in a Classroom)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate young children's perceptions of a teacher assistant robot, IrobiQ. in a kindergarten classroom. The subjects of this study were 23 6-year-olds attending to G kindergarten located in E city, Korea, where the teacher assistant robot had been in operation since Oct. 2008. Each child responded to questions assessing the child's perceptions of IrobiQ's identity regarding four domains : it's biological, intellectual, emotional and social identity. Some questions asked the child to affirm or deny some characteristics pertaining to the robot and the other questions asked the reasons for the answer given. The results indicated that while majority of children considered an IrobiQ not as a biological entity, but as a machine, they thought it could have an emotion and be their playmate. The implications of these results are two folds : firstly, they force us to reconsider the traditional ontological categories regarding intelligent service robots to understand human-robot interaction and secondly, they open up an ecological perspective on the design of teacher assistant robots for use with young children in early childhood education settings.

  • 본 연구는 사용자의 시지각 프로세스에 대한 분석을 통해 시선추적 과정을 이해하고, 인간의 정보처리 모델을 기반으로 휴리스틱 가이드라인을 도출하여, 실무에서 적용할 수 있는 인터페이스 디자인의 일반적인 원리를 발견하는 것에 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 인간의 시각 특성을 이용한 시선추적 시스템을 실험에 적용하여, 상향처리와 하향처리의 시지각 프로세스를 파악하고 인간의 정보처리 모델을 근거로 디자인을 위한 적용점을 분석하였다. 사례 연구로 인터랙티브 미디어를 실험하여 시선의 동선 및 고정점을 통해 사용자의 관심을 확인하고, 사용자의 인지과정을 이해하기 위한 단서를 효과적으로 얻을 수 있었다 그리고, 인간 행위의 각 단계와 정보처리 모델을 기반으로 다섯 가지의 휴리스틱 가이드라인을 도출하였으며, 이를 통하여 디자인 실무에서 직접 적용할 수 있는 인터페이스 디자인의 일반적인 원칙을 발견할 수 있었다.

인간-제품 인터페이스의 사용성 평가 (An Evaluation of Human-Product Interface Usability)

  • As the gap between competing products narrows in terms of performance and quality, the product usability is rapidly becoming a new dimension of product design as the key to offering distinctive value to the customer. Because the user interface is important, not only for the user but also for the efficiency of te whole organiation, system designers require increasingly precise evaluation methods to determine how effective and usable human-product interface is. In this study a new methodology named usability analysis diagram(UAD), for evaluating usability of human-product interface systematically, was developed. UAD is a top-down flow diaagram of a human-product interaction, in ehichfour basic elements - perception, understanding, intellectual decision and action - were classified and then represented by a particular symbol for each. The usability of the product is assessed by the frequency of each symbol in a diagram which represents a sequence of cognitive and physical activities of users during the use of the product, and by the level of difficulty that is classif- ied in three levels in terms of easiness of perception, understanding and action. In order to test validity of the proposed UAD in a real situation, a case study was performed on two different cameras, automatic and manual, and their usability was successfully evaluated and compared.

  • Human Being is being that have the reason as well as body, and first liaison consists through this body justly with outside. The essence of environmental problem such as today can speak that is a harmful traces for health that leave in air, water, soil that pass body. Actual nature is 'Ecological nature', that is necessary for human life directly in survival and offer the integrated relations with harmony. This grafting of principle, that is a construction for architecture and interior architecture in environment furtherance, is required. This is not a subject of usefulness and contemplation, but essential approach the cogredience, that is forming connection directly with nature, is required. Therefore, this research does Questel about 'Nature epistemology, which nature and human's relation can be integrated by alive practical relation. Through this, the Relatedness of 'Natural environment and construction surrounding' is accomplished 'the whole unity' and this research wish to investigate basis that a actual human work's environment can be completed as 'Ecological nature'.

바디 디자인 경험기간에 따른 몸의 인식과 의복 스타일에 미치는 영향 -국내 20대 여성을 중심으로- (Perception of the Body and Clothing Style according to the Period of Body Design Experience -Focusing on Women in their 20s-)

  • This study examined body perception, body design behavior and clothing style for women in their 20s according to the period of body design experience. Body perception was analyzed from the two viewpoints of seeing the body as the subject of social suppression and as the means of self-expression. This could lead to understanding how modern women perceive their bodies based on experiences of body design. In-depth Interviews conducted through semi-structured questionnaires among women in their 20s were divided into body design experience less than 24 months and the group of body design experience more than 24 months. The results of this study are as follows. First, both groups did not feel satisfaction in terms of body perception. Women in the less than 24 months group showed their eager for firm body as well as skinny body influenced by social media, while the group with more than 24 months, felt a strong suppression to have a perfect body as a professional due to the expectations of others. Second, the group with less than 24 months conducted body designs to satisfy themselves, while group with more than 24 months focused on the body shape changes through systematic exercise and a strict diet plan that indicated a strong desire to show their perfect body to others. Third, the two groups showed differences in their clothing style.

대학생 소비자들의 가격지향과 과시소비 성향의 관계 -의복구매를 중심으로- (The Relation between the Perception of Price and the Propensity to Conspicuous Consumption in the Purchase of Clothing of College Students)

  • This study investigates the perception of price and the propensity to conspicuous consumption in the purchase of clothing among college students and the relation between the perception of price and the propensity to conspicuous consumption. The data for this study were collected from 1,015 Korean college students. In order to analyze the data, statistical methods such as frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, factor analysis, ANOVA, scheffe-test, Pearson's correlation, and Cronbach's a were used with the SPSS statistical package program. The major study findings were as follows. 1. The perception of clothing price among college students was classified into five factors: high price-oriented, discount-oriented, high quality-price rate-oriented, low price-oriented, and effectiveness-oriented. 2. The propensity to conspicuous consumption of clothing among college students was classified into four factors: brand name conspicuousness, conspicuous pursuit of vogue, symbol of their social position, and imported goods conspicuousness. 3. High price-oriented and discount-oriented were different significantly according to sex, age, father's educational level, monthly income, monthly allowance amount. High quality-price rate-oriented and low price-oriented were different significantly according to sex, father's educational level, monthly income, monthly allowance amount. Effectiveness-oriented was different significantly according to sex, age. 4. Brand name conspicuousness, conspicuous pursuit of vogue and imported goods conspicuousness were different significantly according to sex, age, father's educational level, monthly income, monthly allowance amount. Symbol of their social position was different significantly according to sex, age, father's educational level, monthly income. 5. High price-oriented, discount-oriented and high quality-price rate-oriented have the highly positive correlation with four factor of propensity to conspicuous consumption of clothing. Low price-oriented has the negative correlation with four factor of propensity to conspicuous consumption of clothing. Effectiveness-oriented has the lowly positive correlation with four factor of propensity to conspicuous consumption of clothing.

여자 간호대학생의 HPV 예방접종 상태에 영향을 미치는 요인: HPV 지식과 인식을 중심으로 (Predictors of HPV Vaccination Status in Female Nursing University Students: HPV related Knowledge and Perception)

  • Purpose: Human Papillomavirus(HPV) vaccination is the best prevention for cervical cancer. Therefore, this study was to examine the best predictors of HPV vaccination status in female nursing university students. Methods: Five hundred and forty junior and senior female nursing students from Seoul and provinces of Kyunggi, Chungcheong and Gyungsang completed paper and pencil questionnaires. Descriptive statistics, $x^2$ test, t-test, and multiple logistic regression with dummy variables were conducted using SAS 9.2. Results: Of the total students, 56.8% were vaccinated. As a result of the analysis of the bivariate relationships, family economic status, school type, perceived susceptibility, perceived benefit and perceived barriers (cost, time, distance from hospital and side effects) were significantly related to vaccination status. After controlling for the general characteristics and the HPV related knowledge score, higher family economic status (Adjusted Odds Ratio [AOR]: 3.78, 95% Confidence Interval [CI]: 1.21~11.76), private university (AOR: 1.69, 95% CI: 1.14~2.53), higher perceived benefit (AOR: 1.80, 95% CI: 1.47~2.20), lower perceived barrier (cost) (AOR: 0.86, 95% CI: 0.74~0.99), lower perceived barrier (time) (AOR: 0.71, 95% CI: 0.61~0.84), and lower perceived barrier (side effects) (AOR: 0.82, 95% CI: 0.72~0.94) were significantly related to HPV vaccination. Perceived benefit, perceived barrier (time) and perceived barrier (side effects) were the top 3 predictors of HPV vaccination status. Conclusion: This study suggests that vaccinated female nursing students were more likely to be from higher family economic status and private universities and have a higher perception of benefit and a lower perception of barriers (cost, time, and side effects). Thus, efforts to increase HPV vaccination rates of female nursing students should focus on improving their perception of benefit while lowering their perception of barriers, particularly cost, time and side effects.

환경교육센터의 지정 방안에 대한 인식 조사 연구 (A Study on Perception of Designating the Environmental Education Center)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception of designating the environmental education center for researcher, teacher, professor, NGOs. The questionnaire was composed of the introduction of designation, human resources, function, operation, facilities and 131 participated in this survey. According to the results of the study, First, environmental education center is divided into four types(national, municipal A, municipal B, private environmental education center). Second, according to the type, It is necessary to put the difference in each center. Third, the majors and career about environmental education are needed for staff.

수직 진동과 pitching에 의한 탑승자의 승차감 변화에 대한 해석 (An Analysis of Passenger Discomfort According to Vertical Vibration and Pitching)

  • The human subject perception response according to vertical vibration and pitching was analyzed with a five degree of freedom model. The vehicle dynamic system with the delayed colored noise excitation and the passenger perception response was arranged as an integrated viration system and could be analyzed simultaneously for seven different combination of vehicle suspension. ISO2631 and BS6841 was adapted for analyzing the passenger perception reponse. Simulation results shows that passenger feel relatively less discomfort due to pitching compared to vertical vibration and road type was not necessary to be considered as a design parameter in view of comfort analysis.
