The data were based on the questionnaire with 264 working employee residing in Seoul. The results indicated that the most frequently participating activities were sports, use of media, loaming activities in order. And there were no significant differences in types of leisure activities between 5 day working employees and 6 day working employees. Secondly, general level of leisure satisfaction was the highest when participating religious activities. Thirdly, it was found that only social satisfaction was positively related to job satisfaction, and social satisfaction influenced job satisfaction. Further discussions and implications were discussed.
The purpose of this study is to provide basic information necessary for improving the satisfaction and quality of leisure life and thereon propose better leisure life programs in accordance with gender. For the purpose, this researcher made a questionnaire survey of 560 persons between July and December 2003 to know the trend and satisfaction of their leisure life in accordance with their gender. Results of the study can be summarized as below; First. the extent to which the surveyed persons participated in leisure life was highest in terms of other leisure activities, followed by self-development. viewing activities, sports activities and journey in order. The satisfaction of leisure life participation by those surveyed persons was scored 3 or over in average, meaning 'generally satisfied'. The time of leisure life participation was most spent in other leisure activities and self-development. Expenses of the participation were highest in terms of other leisure activities. followed by self-development and viewing activities in order. Second, differences in sub-areas of leisure life were analyzed in accordance with gender to show that the degree and time of participation in viewing activities and self-development, expenses of sports activity participation and the degree of participation in journey and others were significantly different between the opposite sexes which were surveyed here. Men were higher in the degree, time and expenses of the participation than women. Third. effects of gender on the satisfaction of leisure life as a whole were determined here to show that men were higher in such satisfaction when they were more satisfactorily participating in sport activities while in case of women, when they were spending more time in sport activities. Women showed a higher satisfaction of leisure life as a whole when they were more frequently and satisfactorily participating in other leisure activities. Based on these results, the researcher proposed effective leisure life programs in accordance with gender.

Watershed runoff that is an important component of the hydrological processes has been significantly altered by climate variability and human activities in many watersheds around the world. It is important to investigate the impacts of climate variability and human activities on watershed runoff change for water resource management. In this study, using watershed runoff data for 109 middle-sized watersheds in Korea, the impacts of climate variability and human activities on watershed runoff change were quantitatively evaluated. Using the Pittitt test, the analysis period was divided into two sub-periods, and the impacts of climate variability and human activities on the watershed runoff change were quantified using the Budyko hypothesis-based climate elasticity method. The overall results indicated that the relative contribution of climate variability and human activities to the watershed runoff change varied by middle-sized watersheds, and the dominant factors on the watershed runoff change were identified for each watershed among climate variability and human activities. The results of this study enable us to predict the watershed runoff change considering climate variability and watershed development plans, which provides useful information for establishing a water resource management plan to reduce the risk of hydrological disasters such as drought or flood.
The modification of CYP2El activity is a matter of considerable interest because of its role in the metabolic activation of a variety of environmental toxicants. In the present study, the time-course of changes in human CYP2El activities was determined following treatment with solvents (acetone, dimethylsulphoxide or pyridine) using intact HepG2 cells transfected by human CYP2El. Hydroxylation of chlorzoxazone was used for the measurement of CYP2El activity. CYP2E1 protein level was increased upon cultivation of cells in the presence of the solvents for 24 hr. Determination of CYP2El activities after 24 ht cultivation with the solvents demonstrated that acetone or dimethylsulphoxide increased, whereas pyridine inhibited the activities. This differential effect of the solvents on CYP2El activities persisted to subsequent 24 ht. Competitive inhibition study suggested that pyridine has stronger binding affinity to CYP2E1 than acetone or dimethylsulphoxide. These results demonstrate that different binding affinity of the solvents to CYP2El plays important role in determining real CYP2El activity in intact cells after exposure to the solvents. Present study would be helpful in precise understanding of human CYP2El-mediated toxicity.
For rapid and sensitive measurement of antiviral activities, application of a recombinant virus containing firefly luciferase gene was attempted. Recombinant human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) containing luciferase gene driven by HCMV late gene pp28 promoter (HCMV/pp28-luc) was used to test the antiviral activities of three known compounds and the result was compared with results from the conventional plaque assay for measuring the production of infectious viruses. When human fibroblast cells were infected with HCMV/pp28-luc, luciferase activity was observed at 2 days after infection and reached maximum at 6 days after infection, whereas the production of infectious virus was maximal at 4 days after infection. The antiviral activities of ganciclovir, acyclovir, and papaverine were measured in HFF cells infected with HCMV/PP28-luc and the luciferase activity was compared with the infectious virus titers. Luciferase activity decreased as the concentration of ganciclovir or papaverine increased, while there was a slight decrease in luciferase activity with acyclovir. The level of the decrease in Luciferase activity was comparable to the level of decrease in the production of infectious virus. Therefore, the antiviral assay using recombinant virus HCMV/pp28-luc resulted in sensitivity similar to the conventional plaque assay with a significant reduction in assay time.
Although significant progress has been made during the past four decades in the treatment of human neoplastic disease, effective chemotherapeutic treatments are nevertheless far from satisfactory to patients suffering from cancer, particularly to those with the stomach cancer which is most prevalent in Korea. To find out the effective anticancer drugs, especially human stomach cancer, we tested cytotoxic activities of several medicinal herbs against human stomach cancer cell line, SNU-1. Evodia officinalis, Melia toosendan, Sinomenium acutum, Galla Haeepensis, Celastrus orbiculatus and Taxus caespitosa showed a significant cytotoxic activities.
Two curcumin derivatives, demethoxycurcumin (DMC) and bisdemethoxycurcumin (BDMC), isolated from Curcuma longa were analyzed for their inhibitory activities against two isoforms of monoamine oxidase (MAO), which is involved in the catalysis of neurotransmitting monoamines. In the study, DMC and BDMC potently inhibited human MAO-B, with $IC_{50}$ values of 2.45 and $2.59{\mu}M$, respectively, and both compounds showed effective inhibitory activities against human MAO-A, with $IC_{50}$ values of 3.24 and $3.09{\mu}M$, respectively. The inhibitory activities of the two compounds were higher than those of curcumin. The removal of the methoxy or dimethoxy groups in curcumin might increase the inhibitory activities against human MAO-A and MAO-B. The inhibited activities were recovered to almost the values of the reversible references in the dialysis experiments with DMC and BDMC. DMC and BDMC showed competitive inhibition for MAO-A and MAO-B, respectively, with $K_i$ values of 0.91 and $0.80{\mu}M$, respectively. These results suggest that the two curcumin derivatives may be useful or lead compounds in the treatment of related disorders as potent reversible MAO inhibitors.

Human activity recognition is widely used in smart homes, health care and indoor monitor. Traditional approaches all need hardware installation or wearable sensors, which incurs additional costs and imposes many restrictions on usage. Therefore, this paper presents a novel device-free activities recognition system based on the advanced wireless technologies. The fine-grained information channel state information (CSI) in the wireless channel is employed as the indicator of human activities. To improve accuracy, both amplitude and phase information of CSI are extracted and shaped into feature vectors for activities recognition. In addition, we discuss the classification accuracy of different features and select the most stable features for feature matrix. Our experimental evaluation in two laboratories of different size demonstrates that the proposed scheme can achieve an average accuracy over 95% and 90% in different scenarios.
Over the years, probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) research activities conducted at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) have played an essential role in support of the agency's move towards risk-informed regulation. These research activities have provided the technical basis for NRC's regulatory activities in key areas; provided PRA methods, tools, and data enabling the agency to meet future challenges; supported the implementation of NRC's 1995 PRA Policy Statement by assessing key sources of risk; and supported the development of necessary technical and human resources supporting NRC's risk-informed activities. PRA research aimed at improving the NRC's understanding of risk can positively affect the agency's regulatory activities, as evidenced by three case studies involving research on fire PRA, human reliability analysis (HRA), and pressurized thermal shock (PTS) PRA. These case studies also show that such research can take a considerable amount of time, and that the incorporation of research results into regulatory practice can take even longer. The need for sustained effort and appropriate lead time is an important consideration in the development of a PRA research program aimed at helping the agency address key sources of risk for current and potential future facilities.
Purpose - Drawing on the content-process approach, this study examines the effect of employees' perceived utility of education and training in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) on their satisfaction. In addition, this study investigates how the human resource management department' activities moderate the relationship between employees' perceived utility of education and training and satisfaction. Design/methodology/approach - This study predicts the positive relationship between employees' perceived utility of education and training and satisfaction, and HR activities strengthens this positive relationship. To test these hypotheses, this study utilized Human Capital Corporate Panel (HCCP) datasets, especially 2017 data at the individual level. The number of the final sample is 425 for the test. Moreover, this study used the hierarchical regression model with SPSS. Finding - As predicted, the analytical results with the hierarchical regression model showed that employees' percieved utility of education and training and satisfaction were positively related. In addition, HR activities strengthened this relationship between employees' percieved utility of education and training and satisfaction. Research implications or Originality - This study will provide academic and practical implications for future research on human resource development, especially SMEs by deepening an understanding of the important factors in order to increase employees' satisfaction of education and training. the number of viewers is found in most American films released in Korea.
