  • The human eye usually experiences a loss of color sensitivity when it is subjected to high levels of luminance, and perceives a discrepancy in color between high and normal-luminance displays, generally known as a hue shift. Accordingly, this paper models the hue-shift phenomenon and proposes a hue-correction method to provide perceptual matching between high and normal-luminance displays. The value of hue-shift is determined by perceived hue matching experiments. At first the phenomenon is observed at three lightness levels, that is, the ratio of luminance is the same between high and normal-luminance display when the perceived hue matching experiments we performed. To quantify the hue-shift phenomenon for the whole hue angle, color patches with the same lightness are first created and equally spaced inside the hue angle. These patches are then displayed one-by-one on both displays with the ratio of luminance between two displays. Next, the hue value for each patch appearing on the high-luminance display is adjusted by observers until the perceived hue for the patches on both displays appears the same visually. After obtaining the hue-shift values, these values are fit piecewise to allow shifted-hue amounts to be approximately determined for arbitrary hue values of pixels in a high-luminance display and then used for correction. Essentially, input RGB values of an image is converted to CIELAB values, and then, LCh (lightness, chroma, and hue) values are calculated to obtain the hue values for all the pixels. These hue values are shifted according to the amount calculated by the functions of the hue-shift model. Finally, the corrected CIELAB values are calculated from corrected hue values, after that, output RGB values for all pixels are estimated. For evaluation, an observer's preference test was performed with hue-shift results and Almost observers conclude that the images from hue-shift model were visually matched with images on normal luminance display.

  • This paper models the hue shift phenomenon and proposes a hue correction method to give perceptual matching between projector with and without additional white channel. To quantify the hue shift phenomenon for whole hue angle, 24 color patches with the same lightness are frist created along equally-spaced hue angle, and these are displayed one by one both displays with different luminance levels. Next, each hue value of the patches appeared on the projector with additional white channel is adjusted by observers until the hue values of patches on both displays appear the same visually. After obtaining the hue shift values from the color matching experiment, these values are piecewise fit into six polynomial functions, which approximately determine shifted hue amounts for an arbitrary hue values of each pixel in projector with additional white channel and are utilized to correct them. Actually, an input RGB image is converted to CIELAB LCH color space to get hue values of each pixel and this hue value is shifted as much as the amount calculated by the functions of hue shift model for correction. Finally, corrected image is inversely converted to an output RGB image. For an evaluation, the matching experiment with several test images and the z-score comparisons were performed.

  • In the preliminary experiment, the factors(soil moisture content, type of organic fertilizers, wound of ginseng, and concentration of rusty-root causing bacteria) inducing the rusty-root of ginseng were investigated. The Hue values were measured for the degree of rustiness affected by the factors. The rustiness was severe on the wounded-ginseng and on the ginseng inoculated with Agrobacterium tumefaciens (CG20126). The Hue values of the control, the non-wounded ginseng inoculated with CG20126, the wounded-ginseng, and the wounded-ginseng inoculated with CG20126 were 113.3, 108.1, 85.8, and 57.5, respectively. The Hue value of the horticulture bed-soil was 56.8 whereas the value of the paddy bed-soil counterpart was 64.7. The Hue values on the ginseng roots grown in the soil containing 10%, 20%, 50%, and 70% of moisture, were 96.2, 85.9, 78.0, and 75.7, respectively. The organic fertilizer increased the rustiness of ginseng and the range of Hue values was 35.2-27.8. The increased concentrations of A. tumefaciens CG20126 increased the rustiness of ginseng. The concentration of A. tumefaciens CG20126 at $10^{2},\;10^{4},\;10^{6},\;and\;10^{8}cells/m{\ell}$ resulted in the Hue values of 62.8, 63.3, 55.6, and 48.8, respectively.

  • Objective: As the associations of sperm DNA fragmentation with morphology have not been examined in detail, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between abnormalities of morphological details and DNA integrity in human sperm. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, men from infertile couples were enrolled at Hue Center for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Vietnam. Conventional semen parameters, including morphological details, were analyzed following the World Health Organization 2010 criteria. Sperm DNA fragmentation was evaluated using a sperm chromatin dispersion assay. The relationships and correlations between semen parameters, sperm morphology, and the type of halosperm and the DNA fragmentation index (DFI) were analyzed. Results: Among 130 men in infertile couples, statistically significant differences were not found in the sperm halo type between the normal and abnormal sperm morphology groups. The percentage of round-head spermatozoa was higher in the DFI >15% group (16.98%±12.50%) than in the DFI ≤15% group (13.13% ±8.82%), higher values for amorphous heads were found in the DFI >15% group, and lower values for tapered heads were observed in the DFI ≤15% group; however, these differences were not statistically significant. Small-halo sperm and the DFI were positively correlated with round-head sperm (r=0.243, p=0.005 and r=0.197, p=0.025, respectively). Conclusion: The rate of general sperm morphological abnormalities in semen analysis was not related to sperm DNA integrity. However, round sperm heads were closely associated with sperm DNA fragmentation.

  • In this paper we propose the block based image segmentation method using the cyclic properties of hue components in HSI color model. In proposed method we use center point instead of hue mean values as the hue representatives for regions in image segmentation considering hue cyclic properties and we also use directed distance for the hue difference among regions. Furthermore we devise the simple and effective method to get critical values through control parameter to reduce the complexity in the calculation of those in the conventional method. From the experimental results we found that the segmented regions in the proposed method is more natural than those in the conventional method especially in texture and red tone regions. In the simulation results the proposed method is better than the conventional methods in the in the evaluation of the human segmentation dataset presented Berkely Segmentation Database.

  • This study was designed to test the effects of enzyme treatments on the extraction of total phenolic compounds and on color characteristics in wines from domestic MBA(Muscat Bailey A) grapes. The total phenolic compound content of the MBA grape wine was $1,352.8{\pm}37.8\;mg/{\ell}$ at 10 days of fermentation. Furthermore, MBA wines treated with 2%(v/v) of Pectinex and Viscozyme had 14.5%(p<0.05) and 3.8% increase, respectively, in total phenolic compound content by 10 days of fermentation. Pectinex treatment was more effective for phenolic levels than Viscozyme treatment. The L, a and b values of the MBA grape wine were 7.4, 9.2 and -1.2, respectively, by 10 days of fermentation. The values in case of Pectinex enzyme treatment were 7.0, 10.6 and -0.8, respectively, and these values were significantly different according to Pectinex treatment(p<0.05). But the values in case of Viscozyme enzyme treatment were 7.2, 9.8 and -1.1, respectively, and these values were not different according to Viscozyme treatment. The hue and color intensity values of the MBA grape wine were 0.492 and 0.785, respectively, by 10 days of fermentation. The values in case of Pectinex enzyme treatment were 0.460 and 0.881, respectively. And as a result of the Pectinex treatment, the hue value of wine was decreased and color intensity was increased slightly(p<0.05). But the values in case of Viscozyme enzyme treatment were 0.482 and 0.805, respectively, and these values were not different according to the Viscozyme treatment.

  • This paper proposes a new algorithm classifing same hues in order toe estimate the spectral reflectance of object from 3 band color image information. To estimate the spectral reflectance of object, the conventional estimation methods are required of 5 or 9 band digital color values. The 5 or 9 band image acquisition systems are required of 5 or 3 times same work for color image acquisition process. To solve the above problems, we propose a new method that can be estimated spectra reflectance estimation of object. The proposed method is to classify same hues corresponding a color stimulus, by using hue angle and chroma vector of a color stimulus. The classified same hues are used as the population corresponding a color stimulus. The range of same hue is estimated by the cumulative proportional ration according to the number of basis function.

  • The purpose of this thesis is in investigating the Korean twenties face color, according to the seasons, thus presenting a sample Korean Facial Color Map. The face is divided into 20 parts to take measures, and investigated through the four seasons. Minolta Chrome Meter CR-200 has been used for taking measures of the face color. Measuring subjects and area are, University students of both sex, living in the Suncheon. They are of ages the twenties. Classified measuring values of the skin colors are expressed following to the A. H. Munsell's color system. The result of this study is as followed. When comparing parts among male and female(make-up and no make-up) groups for changes with seasonal hue and value of a face color, differences have been sighted among these three groups following the seasons ; Spring(March), Summer(June), Autumn (September) and Winter(December). According to the result of Duncan's proof, the differences of the women group with the make-up attitude was shown only in value from Summer and Autumn, but no differences have been sighted between the make-up group and the no make-up group, concerning hue. Concerning hue, it was shown that men had a redder hue than women in all seasons. In Spring, both men and women had the strongest red hue, then from Summer to Autumn a strong yellowish hue appeared, to make place to a diverse coloring in Winter, followed by a reddish hue, to start all over again. Value number proved to be lower in the Summer and Autumn for the no make-up group when compared to the make-up group, showing an averaging high number for all seasons when putting on make-up; and men value number shows the lowest of the three groups.

  • In high-resolution satellite image classification, when the color values of pixels belonging to one class are different, such as buildings with various colors, it is difficult to determine the color information representing the class. In this paper, to solve the problem of determining the representative color information of a class, we propose a method to divide the color channel of HSV (Hue Saturation Value) and perform object-based classification. To this end, after transforming the input image of the RGB color space into the components of the HSV color space, the Hue component is divided into subchannels at regular intervals. The minimum distance-based image classification is performed for each hue subchannel, and the classification result is combined with the image segmentation result. As a result of applying the proposed method to KOMPSAT-3A imagery, the overall accuracy was 84.97% and the kappa coefficient was 77.56%, and the classification accuracy was improved by more than 10% compared to a commercial software.

  • In this paper, we present a robust hand recognition approach to sudden illumination changes. The proposed approach constructs a background model with respect to hue and hue gradient in HSI color space and extracts a foreground hand region from an input image using the background subtraction method. Eighteen features are defined for a hand pose and multi-class SVM(Support Vector Machine) approach is applied to learn and classify hand poses based on eighteen features. The proposed approach robustly extracts the contour of a hand with variations in illumination by applying the hue gradient into the background subtraction. A hand pose is defined by two Eigen values which are normalized by the size of OBB(Object-Oriented Bounding Box), and sixteen feature values which represent the number of hand contour points included in each subrange of OBB. We compared the RGB-based background subtraction, hue-based background subtraction and the proposed approach with sudden illumination changes and proved the robustness of the proposed approach. In the experiment, we built a hand pose training model from 2,700 sample hand images of six subjects which represent nine numerical numbers from one to nine. Our implementation result shows 92.6% of successful recognition rate for 1,620 hand images with various lighting condition using the training model.
