A Study on the Criteria and Characteristics of New Material for Housing Space Focused on Sustainability (지속가능한 측면에서의 주거공간 신소재의 기준 및 특성)

  • The study was to grasp features of new material applicable to housing space in the sustainable side by analyzing materialistic features of new material and features of sustainable material with sustainable new material. Through analysis on sustainable new material, the study deducted the below conclusion. First, through the precedent studies, the characteristics of sustainable materials have been classified into eight categories : friendly healthiness, non-toxicity, comfortableness, naturality, recycling, harmlessness of environment, separate collection, reusability. After the criteria have been brought up from new material applicable to housing space in the sustainable. Second, in materialistic Characteristics of new material, 'New Process' was mainly applied. There was no any new material applied to 'new raw material'. Therefore, it is thought that it is necessary to study on development of perfectly new material and to study on new material to apply material used in other fields to finishing material of dwelling space. Third, in Characteristics of sustainable material, 'Re-serviceability' appeared most and 'Non-toxicity' and 'Recycling' appeared in the next. 'Friendly Healthiness' and 'Separate collection' appeared only one on the other side. Therefore, it is judged that it is necessary to develop and study new material including health components considering user's health, function for health increase and function to grope comfort for humans. Finally, after researching and analysis the criteria by recently presented the new material, it has been concluded that the standard can be used as the criteria of new material for the possibility of application in housing space. On the basis of the study, the author will carry out analysis on sustainable new material minutely and utilize it as basic data to suggest a standard of sustainable new material applicable to dwelling space in the future.

  • The purpose of this study is to be applied with the basic data for the design method in the housing space which is differential. So, we analyzed the expression method and the application characteristic to materials of units in housing complex. To that, we researched on the condition of finishing material about the kind of material, color, texture and pattern for components in living room space. The results of this study are as follows : First, at the present time, the Object concept is expressed by 'mixing' and 'juxtaposition' of material, texture and pattern of finishing materials in housing space. But, we could find that the Object concept was used restrictively in housing space. So, we have to find different expression methods to be the effective and differential design by being applied Object concept for the housing space. Second, the 'mixing' which is the method to express the Object concept is showed in only 'art wall'. so, we can estimate that the method is the limited method to plan the varied housing. It is needed various expression methods to design components for the housing space. Third, it showed that the 'mixing' was a passive expression method using a little differential for design of housing space. We could estimate that similar methods were applied to the housing design. By results of this study, we can think that the develop study is needed to find design methods for expression of the Object in housing space.

A Study on the Metaphorical Expression Characteristics of New Materials for Emotional Housing Space Design (감성주거공간디자인을 위한 신소재의 은유적 표현 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This study analyzed metaphorical characteristics of composite materials in terms of a visual aspect on a new material that is applicable for housing space. The results are as follows. First, the recent trend of housing space tends to stimulate emotions of residents through visual finishing materials, and for this reason, visual expression of a new material that is applicable to finishing materials plays an important role. Second, convertibleness, association and duplicity were selected as items of metaphorical expressions through the precedent studies. Third, most of combinations of materials were shown different from the existing materials in an expressive characteristic of composite materials through analysis, and application of a technology showed a different visual effect of patterns and textures from the existing materials. This implies that visual expression and directing are being attempted using such technology on finishing materials of housing space with development of digital technologies. Fourth, for metaphorical characteristics of composite material for housing space, combination of various materials and a digital technology were applied on convertibleness. For association, a combination of materials that have each different characteristic associated with the third material, and combination with subsidiary material of optical fiber and a digital technology were appled for duplicity. Data obtained from the results of this study has high efficiency in planning finishing materials for emotional housing space in future, and it will be basic data for a study on development of new finishing materials.

Endurance Evaluation and Fatigue Property fo Axle Housing (Axle Housing의 내구성 판단과 피로특성)

  • Fatigue failure of axle housing could cause many injuries and much financial loss. This challenges the engineer to improve design decisions involving fatigue. Endurance evaluation of axle housing is great interest to auto-mobile manufacturers for the sake of safety and reliability. Axle housing is subjected to gross vehicle weight(G.V.W)as mean load and alternating load. Theoretical design diagram involving mean and alternating stresses is used for the evaluation of axle housing fatigue endurance with the equivalent stress of fatigue critical area on the axle housing. Four point bending fatigue tests on axle housing with constant amplitude loading at approximately R=0 were performed with 50 ton servohydraulic strucural fatigue testing machine developed at KIMM. Specimens were made with the same material STKM 13B as the axle housing and tested to obtain S_N data. Five specimens of STKM 13B were tested at 253.61 MPa and weibull distribution was obtained at the same stress level. Material data and structural data were compares and fatigue stress property factor and fatigue life property factor were obtained.

Examination on Application of High-Performance Concrete using Fine Fly Ash as Replacement Material of Silica Fume (고성능콘크리트의 제조에 사용되는 실리카 흄의 대체재로써 고분말 플라이애시의 적용성 검토)

  • This paper investigated how Fine Fly Ash (FFA) with $14,000\;cm^2/g$ of Fineness affects the micro structure and material properties of High-Performance Concrete (HPC) before and after hardening from Material Test of HPC and Cement Paste. FFA is applied as a substitute of Silica Fume which is used necessarily in producing HPC. As a Material Test results, 5% FFA series specimen shows the lower fluidity than SF series specimen. When, however, the Fluidity of 10% FFA series specimen is increased reversely to the similar value of SF series specimen. The Porosity of FFA series specimen of 3 day age is displayed to $21{\sim}24%$, which is higher than $19{\sim}20%$ porosity of SF series specimen, while that of 28 day age is reached to $8{\sim}9%$, which is improved compared with 10% fo SF series specimen. It can be thought that FFA has better influence on the porosity of HPC in case of long term age. The Compressive strength of FFA series specimen shows the similar result with the property of porosity. The compressive strength of 28 day age FFA series specimen is $98{\sim}106%$ of SF series specimen and 107% of plain specimen to reveal better strength development.

  • Mobility in housing is a normative way to satisfy family needs for· better· living conditions. In the context of relative decisions. mobility can be understood as forced relocation or unforced relocation In making relocation. the household chooses a particular 'environmental quality profile. Therefore. the understanding of mobility and relocation in housing is needed for· the developing and planning of housing evnironment. The major findings are s follows ;1. The motives of mobility are composed of 4 factors('material porseperity’, 'convenience· safety'. environmental improvement' and 'forced relocation'). Especially, 'material prosperity' was defined the most fundamental factor· for. 2. The components of housing environment quality were composed of 3 factors related to the scale of home environment. They were 'neighborhood character factor', 'dwelling character· factor·'. And 'location character· factor'. The factor 'neighborhood character' was defined the basic factor· to choose for the housing environmental quality profile.3. It was examined that the motives of mobility and the components of home environmental quality were significantly different by the household characteristics (income. family life cycle. and tenure type).

  • This paper describes the development of new type arrester for 22.9kV class distribution lines, with polymer insulating materials applied to their housings. The new arrester employs silicone insulating material for its housing, instead of the conventional porcelain housing, aiming at reduction in size and weight and explosion proof against internal short circuit failure. And, since the design of sheds is not restricted. it is possible to provide a long surface leakage distance per strike length and improve anti-contamination performance.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine how housing facilities have been progressed, how housing life has been technicalized and which factors contributed to the modernization of Korean housing in the economic development era. Review of advertising material for apartment sales in the newspaper from 1970s' to the 1990s' are mainly utilized to follow up the changes of kitchen equipment and furnitures, bathroom equipments, heating and cooking facilities and their fuel system, information and telecommunication system as well as security and intelligent system. However, high technology in apartment was a symbol of modem housing in each time. The improvement of housing facilities brought about the improvement of efficiency in household works. In other words, housing space plays as "Living Machine". And appearance of new technology systems leaded to a pluralistic activities in the home. As well as improvement on the material environments accelerated the individualization phenomena in housing space.

A Study on the Spacial Boundary in Sejima Kazuyo's Housing Architecture (세지마 가즈요의 주거건축에 나타나는 경계공간에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the spacial boundary in Kazuyo Sejima's housing architecture, to give attention to contemporary housing architecture that we inhabit, and to escape from existing architectural concepts. This study seeks to the meaning and possibility of the spacial boundary on the basis of contemporary architecture. The spacial boundary can be studied in the aspect of architectural space that molds human experience and perception. As a result of this study, three properties in the spacial boundary are revealed. One property of the spacial boundary is soft that protect privacy from gaze of exterior. Another property is that communication that changes according to material of boundary and its experience of observer. The other property is to have uncertainty by compound of programs and material-mixing senses including its perception. This results means that the spacial boundary as interface which is represent our everyday life in the contemporary housing architecture.
