As part of the digital era, a digital twin that simulates the weak part of a product by performing a stress test that reduces the lifespan of some expensive equipment that cannot be done in reality by accurately moving the real world to virtual reality is being actively used in the manufacturing industry. Due to the development of IoT, the digital twin, which accurately collects data collected from the real world and makes it the same in the virtual space, is mutually beneficial through accurate prediction of urban life problems such as traffic, disaster, housing, quarantine, energy, environment, and aging. Based on its action, it is positioned as a necessary tool for smart city construction. Although digital twin is widely applied to the manufacturing field, this study proposes a smart city model suitable for the 4th industrial revolution era by using it to smart cities and increasing citizens' safety, welfare, and convenience through the proposed model. In addition, when a digital twin is applied to a smart city, it is expected that more accurate prediction and analysis will be possible by real-time synchronization between the real and virtual by maintaining realism and immediacy through real-time interaction.
This review aims to identify the virtual reality (VR)-based home modification programs and provide basic data for the future development and application of domestic VR-based home modification programs. Urban green spaces, as a means to mitigate social problems and environmental risks, are getting more attention in evaluating urban environment. The inequity of green space distribution is becoming a major issue in urban planning and management. This study investigated the characteristics of green space in 3 districts (Jung-gu, Dongdaemun-gu, Seongdong-gu), that are composed of 46 administrative divisions in central Seoul, to analyze the environmental equity of urban green spaces. The correlations between the amount of green space, including the coverage of street trees, and the socioeconomic status of each administrative division were analyzed. To deduce the effects of plant coverage on the urban temperature regime, the relationship between the normalized difference of vegetation index (NDVI) and land surface temperature (LST) was analyzed. The research revealed that the mean NDVI of an administrative division was negatively correlated with the percentage of basic living recipients and disabled people. The LST of a division with low NDVI was higher due to the lack of green coverage. Such environmental inequities were closely related to residential building type, which was strongly affected by the economic status of residents. The LST of an apartment area was $2.0^{\circ}C$ lower than that of single-family houses and multi-housing areas. This is expected as the average NDVI of the apartment area was more than twice as high as the other environments considered in this study. The inequity can be exacerbated without urban planning which is deliberately designed to reduce it.
This study aims to analyze the research trends on Smart City and to present implications to policy maker, industry professional, and researcher. Cities around globe have undergone the rapid progress in urbanization and the consequent dramatic increase in urban dwellings over the past few decades, and faced many urban problems in such areas as transportation, environment and housing. Cities around the globe are in a hurry to introduce Smart City to pursue a common goal of solving these urban problems and improving the quality of their lives. However, various conceptual approaches to smart city are causing uncertainty in setting policy goals and establishing direction for implementation. The study collected 11,527 papers titled "Smart City(cities)" from the Scopus DB and Springer DB, and then analyze research status, topic, trends based on abstracts and publication date(year) information using the LDA based Topic Modeling approaches. Research topics are classified into three categories(Services, Technologies, and User Perspective) and eight regarding topics. Out of eight topics, citizen-driven innovation is the most frequently referred. Additional topic network analysis reveals that data and privacy/security are the most prevailing topics affecting others. This study is expected to helps understand the trends of Smart City researches and predict the future researches.
Korea is proceeding to aging society at much faster pace than other countries. To alleviate various problems (health, environment, social relationships, psychology and emotion, and financial problems) of the elderly caused by aging society, there has been increasing attention to social capital. This study investigated types of ways that the elderly at individual level are aware of social capital and the characteristic. In addition, factors that influence the types were studied. Data from 1060 elderly with the age of 65 and older were collected in Korea. Excluding missing data on variables used in the study, data of 960 elderly were used for analyses. K-mean cluster analysis was conducted to investigate types of elderly awareness on social capital at individual level. Multinominal logistic regression was used to find out factors of the types. K-mean cluster analysis resulted in three types of awareness on social capital among the elderly: (1) potential of social capital; (2) severance of social capital; and (3) wealth of social capital. Multinominal logistic regression resulted in that compared to potential of social capital type, when the elderly were younger, inclination of politics was more progressive, they did not have religion, they did not reside in rural, and they did not live in multiplex housing, the elderly were more likely to be in severance of social capital type. Also, when the elderly were women, had higher education and standard of living, were Christian, and did not reside in rural regions. they tended to be in wealth of social capital type. Based on the study results about awareness on social capital among the elderly and factors related to the awareness types, practical and political suggestions that promote social capital to solve problems of the elderly were provided.

In this paper, a high-performance and low-noise centrifugal fan is developed for cooling automotive seats which provide a driver with pleasant driving environment. First, the flow characteristics of the existing fan unit was analyzed using a fan performance tester and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulations. The analysis of the predicted flow field indicated vortex flow near the tip of fan hub and stagnation flow on the top of fan hub. Two design points are devised to reduce the vortex flow and the stagnation flow observed in the existing fan unit. First, the cut-off clearance which is the minimum distance between the fan blade and the fan housing is increased to reduce the vortex strength and, as a result, to reduce the overall sound pressure level. Second, the hub shape is more modified to eliminate the stagnation flow. The validity of proposed design is confirmed through the numerical analysis. Finally, a prototype is manufactured with a basis on the numerical analysis result and its improved flow and noise performances are confirmed through the P-Q curves measured by using the Fan Tester and the SPL (Sound Pressure Level) levels measured in the anechoic chamber.
LID technologies are capable of mitigating the negative impacts of non-point source (NPS) pollution generated in different land uses. Apart from the increase in point and non-point pollutant generation, highly developed and paved areas generally affect microclimate conditions. This study evaluated both the efficiency of Low Impact Development (LID) facilities in treating NPS pollutant loads as well as the unit pollutant loads (UPL) generated in various urban features (such as parking lots and highways). This investigation also looked at how LID technology helped to alleviate Urban Heat Island (UHI) conditions. As compared to the typical unit pollutant loads in South Korea, the unit pollutant loads at Kongju National University were relatively low, because of no classes, limited vehicular transmission, and low anthropogenic activities during vacation. After receiving treatment from the LID facilities, the effluent pollutant loads were significantly decreased. The sedimentation in filtration mechanisms considerably reduced the pollutant fractions in the influent. Additionally, it was shown that LID facilities' mean surface temperatures are up to 7.2℃ lower than the nearby paved environment, demonstrating the LID systems reducing the UHI impact on an urban area.

This study surveyed residents and public officials for the projects to make smart-city plans of Geumsan-gun. First, domestic and foreign cases related to smart city projects were reviewed. The local status of Geumsan-gun was investigated regarding various aspects of the natural, social, urban environment, and smart-city facilities. The survey results were as follows. Overall, more than half of the survey respondents said they were satisfied with their housing quality. Several problems in their areas, such as inefficient welfare system, shortage of parking space, and industrial infrastructure, were reported. On the other hand, tourism and leisure facilities, health care support systems, industries to boost the economy, and the job market were also important issues. The problem was that the regional problems mentioned above were not in line with their preferences for smart-city services. The implications of the survey results could be summed up as follows. The groupware surveys of Geumsan-gun should be used as survey tools, whereas IT survey tools (Google, Survey Monkey, etc.) should be used for locals. In particular, a survey targeting residents should ask plain and compact questions taking advantage of local gatherings. It is also important to have a pilot-survey with relevant public officials and select related projects and regional issues. The survey of local residents and public officials is a prerequisite for promoting smart city projects. The smart city project shall reflect the needs of residents while solving community problems by considering the survey results and local conditions.
This paper describes the production methods that were originally used for an arrow bundle excavated from a Bronze Age residential area in Auraji in Jeongseon, Gangwon-do Province and the conservation treatment process that it subsequently underwent. An arrow conventionally consists of an arrowhead and a shaft. It is rare to excavate a shaft along with an arrowhead in a complete form since the shaft is made of organic materials. Notably, the arrow bundle from the Auraji site is of great significance as it shows traces of tangless stone arrowheads attached to charred shafts and offers an important case of the split end of a piece of a tree being inserted into an arrowhead. For a further examination of the characteristics of the arrows from Auraji, microscopic investigation was conducted and the type of wood used for the arrow shafts was examined. The sequence and direction of processing and the particle sizes of the grinding tools were revealed through the analysis of traces of grinding on the stone arrowheads. The shaft is presumed to have been made from a green length of three-year-old willow (Salix spp.). A curing agent with a high degree of waterproofing and reversibility was used during the on-site curing process according to demands of the surrounding environment, and a technique that the authors call the "Bridge" method was used for emergency collection of the relics. Once the bundle was transferred to the conservation treatment lab, reinforcing materials were carefully chosen as it was important not to damage the relics during the process of turning them for the repair of their reverse sides. For this purpose, artificial clay was selected since it can safely bear a load and has excellent physical properties. Finally, detached parts were rejoined, the relics and their surrounding materials were cleaned, and the bottom sides were finished with epoxy resin prior to the display of the relics at the museum.
Safety education delivered to construction workers in a lecture manner has limitations in concentration and immersion, so delivery power and interest are low. In order to improve unstable behavior through education and prevent safety accidents, it is necessary to change the paradigm to hands-on education. Purpose: Experiential safety education aims to contribute to preventing accidents for construction workers by quickly recognizing risks, improving emergency response skills, and verifying the effectiveness of pre- and post-learning. Method: Based on a survey of workers who experienced the same work environment as the actual construction site, an opinion survey on the pre- and post-safety experience education and a variable measurement tool were planned, and a research hypothesis was established. Results: The Bayesian theory and MC simulation analysis were used to analyze the structural equation model, and the change in construction worker behavior was confirmed through the intended safety (A), non-experiential education in the sub-area of anxiety (B), average, standard deviation, and minimum and maximum values. Conclusion: The effect of education and industrial accidents are reduced only when construction workers are motivated to participate.
