The numbers of the elderly who suffer Empty Nest Syndrome have been accelerated as an aging population has increased vastly and nuclear families have been a dominating family type in modern Korean society. To make the elderly get out of this phenomenon and live actively, the scheme of converting their existing houses into shared houses was set as a hypothetical solution in this study, and finding out the responses of the elderly who owns their own houses is the purpose of the study. A small workshop panel method was used and the elderly aged 55 years upwards took part and they own a detached house that is relatively large for the elderly or the elderly couple to live alone. The workshop was consisted of 3 stages: 1. a survey 2. an interview 3. a site visit. Through this, problems that the elderly have been experiencing within their houses were looked into and the responses of the elderly on converting their houses to shared houses by introducing developed schematic plans. As a result, positive responses from the house owners were carried out based on the fact that subsidies from the government on house renovation and tenants matching programs are supported. Shared houses could provide home owners economical support with rents and help them to feel less lonely. This is one way of supporting the elderly to live and age actively in their later lives. Therefore, this idea should be established in connection with preparing aging, aged, and super-aged society.
The economy of India and so also of many Asian countries depends on bamboos and their uses are not only in domestic items but also in rural housing and raw materials to several industries and germplasm characterization is an important link between the conservation and utilization of plant genetic resources. Classical taxonomic studies of the bamboos are based on floral morphology and growth habit, which can cause problems in identification due to erratic flowering coupled with different biotic agencies and environmental factors. Identification and genetic relationships among accessions of Thamnocalamus falconeri were investigated using morphology and random amplified polymorphic DNAs (RAPD) technique. Analysis started by using 51 vegetative characters and forty two 10-mer primers that allowed us to distinguish different genotypes hailing from different eco- zones of Garhwal Himalayas (India). The selected primers (12) were used for identification and for establishing a profiling system to estimate genetic diversity. A total of 79.33% polymorphism was estimated by using 12 selected primers. The genetic similar analysis was conducted based on binary digits i.e. presence (1) or absence (0) of bands, which revealed a wide range of variability among the species whereas genetic relatedness was quite high based on vegetative characters. Cluster analysis clearly showed two major clusters for both of the markers viz. morphology and RAPD belonging to 10 accessions of T. falconeri. Two major clusters were further divided into minor clusters. Cluster based on RAPD marker showed grouping of accessions of closed locality whereas analogy was reported for vegetative traits. The RAPD technique has the potential for use in species identification and genetic relationships studies of bamboo for breeding program.
This Study aimed to construction the plan of the statistics for national greenhouse gas inventories of international standards. Currently, the statistics of the greenhouse gas inventories of South Korea, has a problem that is not able to build the changed information. In previous studies, it has been limited to the construction of the information within each category. In order to solve these problems, targeting Gyeonggi province, we analyzed the land use change by utilizing the various information such as satellite images, KLIS, UPIS. As a result, we suggested the following implementation, classification system of LULUCF category, improvement of accuracy by utilizing satellite images of high resolution, additional research for methodology. Based on these contents, we suggested the construction plan of the statistics for national greenhouse gas inventories(LULUCF sector). Frist, it is necessary to construct of land use change informations for the past 20 years, Then, it need to create the matrix of land use change by utilizing satellite images and various land information systems.

In recent times, there has been considerable interest in HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) materials for their use in construction of office equipments, home electronics, housing for electronics appliances, packing containers, etc. However, these materials suffer from problems caused by fatigue fracture. Further, their strength is substantially affected by environmental conditions. Therefore, in this study, the effect of temperature was analyzed by performing a tensile test and a fatigue test. It was observed that the yield strength, the ultimate strength, and the fatigue life decreased relatively with an increase in temperature. Further, an S-N curve can be predicted by using the results of the tensile test and a micro-Vickers hardness test.
Residential segregation is often considered to be one of the social problems that intensify urban inequality This study reviews three different frameworks about the causes of residential segregation and tests their validity in the real world. The review focuses on racial/ethnic residential segregation in U.S. cities since it has been blamed for persistent socio-economic gap among racial/ethnic groups. The three different segregation frameworks include 'spatial assimilation' that attributes segregation to low degree of assimilation and acculturation, 'place stratification' to discriminatory practices in the housing and mortgage markets such as steering, blockbusting, and redlining, and 'resurgent ethnicity' to racial/ethnic preference in residential choice, particularly in-group attraction. As an effort to test their validity, the paper examined residential pattern changes of the four major Asian nationality groups through 1990s and found that their residences got decentralized but re-cluster in some selected suburbs. This supports 'resurgent ethnicity' largely and 'spatial assimilation' only partly.
A vacuum pressure method has been developed to solve many problems in the conventional surcharge method such as embankments, and its application has increased in the country. Recently, to control target settlements in the field, there have been many studies on the comparison of settlements between vacuum pressure method and surcharge load method in the same conditions. In this study, the settlement characteristics of soil subjected to vacuum pressure and surcharge pressure are discussed. The results indicate that if vacuum pressure is applied to the improvement of soft ground, there will be inward lateral displacement and the vacuum pressure will induce generally less settlement than a surcharge load of the same magnitude. The range of settlement reduction ratio is 0.54~0.67 based on Hooke's law, 0.91 based on field cases, 0.81 based on laboratory oedometer tests, 0.75 based on the theory of elasticity and coefficient of volumetric compressibility and 0.77~0.93 in its recent applications to the thick soft ground.

This study discusses the sustainable development of the compact city. The problems of urban sprawl have long been recognized. Urban sprawl results from the confluence of several factors: the lure of cheap open land outside the city, advances in transportation, the ready availability of capital to buy property, the increase in the number of real estate developers and the mass production of housing. The term compact city has the opposite connotation to urban sprawl. Compact cities provide a more energy efficient and less polluting environment, because dwellers within them live closer to shops and work and can easily walk, bike or take public transport. In other words, the compact city has the objective of facilitating the integration of the different functions through the intensive development of various facilities, such as residences, commerce, businesses and of improving the efficiency of urban energy usage by decreasing the volume of traffic.

As the scale of domestic building construction becomes larger, more complicated and more specialized, demands for quality improvement, cost reduction and construction period shortening increase. Construction materials management becomes a main factor to perform the project successfully. Therefore, various researches using RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) are being studied to manage the construction materials efficiently. This research aims to suggest the method of construction materials management using RFID in apartment housing. First, the technical properties of RFID are grasped. Second, problems are extracted by analyzing the case studies and related research using RFID in construction field. Third, construction materials are classified according to the construction process and process of materials management is analyzed. Lastly, method of construction materials management using RFID is suggested. The results of this research are expected to contribute the improvement of construction productivity through effective material management.
The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for development of a recipe for muslim-friendly halal Korean foods through investigation of awareness of Korean foods, taste evaluation, and menu preferences. After Korean foods' menu range and standard were set up for the survey and in-depth interviews with three halal food experts were conducted, 35 kinds of halal Korean foods were examined. The present study conducted a survey on 205 foreign Muslims living in Jeonju-si, Jeonbuk and Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi who ate Korean foods. Foreign Muslims were male workers in their 20's residing in company housing, and their monthly mean income was 1.01~2 million KRW. The majority of subjects responded that meal problems were the most difficult in everyday life. Concerning the taste of Korean foods, the response rate of 'sweet' and 'spicy' was high while 'Korean food is healthy' and 'Korean food ingredients is fresh' were high for awareness of Korean foods. 'Bulgogi' was the most preferred among the selected Korean foods, which was in line with the results of previous research. There is a need to provide information on Korean foods that can be made with food ingredients certified as halal and their recipes through various media for foreign Muslims who have limitations on in meals due to religious factors.

Productivity is one of key management indexes for evaluating soundness of a manufacturing organization and its efficiency. In many aspects of productivity management in the construction industry, however, intuition of an experienced field manager still plays a greater role while productivity data is not utilized efficiently for the construction management purposes, because the collection and analysis of the productivity-related information are not systematic. Lack of systematic method in collecting and analyzing the productivity data results in such problems. The existing WBS should therefore be improved to solve them. The authors developed a new WBS for productivity data collection and analysis by following the research direction that was determined by literature reviews, overseas cases, and interviews with field engineers. The new breakdown structure was then evaluated for its feasibility as a productivity analysis framework. It is expected that the productivity data collected by the WBS will be used for OLAP and mining for future productivity forecast.
