The purpose of this study was to review housework research studies in the Journal of Korean Home Economics Association, the Journal of Korean Home Management Association and the Journal of Korean Family Resource Management Association. For this purpose, 109 housework research studies were analyzed according to the themes, published years, the subjects and the research methods. The major findings of this study were as follows. The research on the evaluation of the value of housework was the theme most frequently studied, followed by research on the socialization of housework, housework time, the attitudes on and satisfaction with housework, and the division of housework, in that order. During the periods of 1990-2000 years, housework studies had increased, but since then have slowly decreased. The majority of respondents to housework studies were married women. With respect to employment status of the subjects, both employed and unemployed people were sampled in half of the studies. The sample size was over 300 in almost half of the research reviewed. The most frequently used research method was the surveys using questionnaires. Descriptive statistics, one way ANOVA and multiple regression analysis were the statistical methods used most frequently.

The amount of the time that young housework perform housework can influenced by the age of their youngest child, the area in which each them lives, whether they are employed, and the degree of their consciousness of value to housework. Whether a young housewife is employed or not is epecially the most influential variable even among those significant variables stated above.

The data were collected from 165 married female home-based workers, and 292 married female on-site workers in Pusan and Kyungnam province, by self-administered questionnaire. Frequency distributions, Cronbachs alpha, t-tests, Pearsons correlations, and multiple regression analyses were conducted by SPSS/PC+. The major findings of this study were kas follows: 1) Married female home-based workers more used obtaining additional help and personal time reallocation than married female on-site workers. 2) For married female home-based workers, educational attainment and occupation were significant factors affecting housework time management strategies, and for married female on-site workers, employment hours per week and existence of elders/disability within the family were important variables.
The purpose of this study is to compare the patterns of time use between Korean and USA families. The data for 353 Seoul-based Korean families with two children living in Seoul and 130 USA families with two children living in the State of Utah were collected using a structured questionnaire and time diary. The major findings were as the following: 1. The Korean couples spent more time at personal care, paid work, and travel than the USA couples did, while the USA couples spent more time at housework and social-cultural activities than the Korean couples did. 2. The Korean wives spent more time doing food and clothing related housework than the USA wives did. Compared with the Korean wives, however, the time spent at house cleaning and management, family care and shopping and home management were longer than USA wives. The time U.S. husbands engaged in housework was much greater than by the Korean husbands. 3. Regardless of sex and school level, the Korean children spent less time at sleeping/rest, housework and socio-cultural activities and more time at eating and learning than those of U.S. These time use patterns of the families in both countries may reflect the differences of the cultural contexts, social norms, life styles, and the degrees of urbanization. To fully explain the findings, further study on the differences in social and cultural factors between the two countries is needed.
This research is intended to understand the housework performance of husbands that live away from their family and the human resources that may have effects while they do the housework. The research has been done by the interviews with twelve selected males who are married and live away from their family The results are as follows: First, the amount of time that the interviewees spend on the housework is less than thirty minutes a day. As for the clothing life area, they seem to depend on washers, cleaners and their wives for their laundry, except for six interviewees that wash their socks by hands. As for their food life area, they either have quick breakfast or do not have breakfast, and they go to a restaurant more than twice a day. Therefore, they tend to depend on services, and they only make the bed and clean the house. Second, affective components and cognitive components are the factors that make their housework difficult while physical components do not have any great effect. These two components have a great deal of effect on the interviewees'clothing related housework and food related housework.

The data is collected by using questionnare distributed to 412 housewives living in Seoul and around new two cities. The data is analyzed using Mean Frequency Percentile One-way ANOVA Pearson's Correlation and Regression,l The result of this research is as follows; 1. Housewife's housework time has significant relationship with the lifecycle stages (p<0.01) And the most influencial factor to it is housewife's employment and the next are domestic helper monthly household income and housewofe's age(p<0.01) 2. The expenditure for time-saving has most significiantly related to the lifecycle stages. And the other influencial factors to it are houswife's employment monthly household income and housewife's age(p<0.001) The explanatory power of al variables is 36%.
The purpose of this ethnography is to describe and analyse the Korean full-time housewives' everyday domestic cares. For this purpose. The 11 full-time housewives in their thirties and forties from the middle class were interviewed with an unstructured questionnaire. The findings are as follows: The full-time housewives interpret their domestic cares as including housework, financial management and consumption behavior. They have heavy responsibility to fulfil the routine housework, squeeze their financial resources and balance their family consumption and their own consumption. So, their every day lift has its own uniqueness different from their counter partners'- husband's and employed married woman's. But even among full-time housewives, there are many differences in all these three activities of domestic cares.
Given the dramatic increase in the percentage of married women working in clercial occupations and the inflexibility of work commitments for employees working in this domain, this paper investigates the division of household labor between married female clerical workers and their husbands, and their sources of external help. The total housework time of couples, the percent of total housework done by husbands, and a scale measuring the wife’s perception of the frequency with which her husband does specific household tasks are all used to measure the division of household labor between couples. Data for 143 couples were gathered from using structured questionares and the time dairies that included one weekday and one weekend day. The findings of this study are as follows; 1) The couples receive substantial support in housework from their mothers. 2) Wives spend an average of 23 hours and 26 minutes per week on household labor, whereas husbands spend an average 7 hours and 7 minutes per week. Husbands do an average of 20.9% of all housework done by the couples. Wives typically perceive that their husbands are not frequently participating in a variety of household tasks(mean = 2.88 on a 5-point Likert scale where 1=never and 5=always). 3) Multivariate analysis reveal that working hours is negatively related to while the presence of child under 6 years old is positively related to total housework. Time availability variables(e.g. working hours and the presence of child under 6 years old) and relative resource variables(e.g. the rate of wife’s income on that of husband) are related to the percent of total housework done by husbands. The sex-role attitude variables are related to the wife’s perceptions of the frequency with which her husband does specific household tasks.
This study investigates the balance between work and family, and the happiness of married working women who have preschool-aged children. Data were collected from 321 questionnaires that consisted of three parts: 1) basic demographic variables, 2) family-life variables, and 3) working-life variables. SPSS 21.0 was used for the statistical analysis. The variables that were identified to have a statistically significant impact on the balance between work and family were income, age of first child, time spent on housework and childcare on weekdays, time spent on housework on weekends, family-friendly service in the workplace and flexibility of work schedule. 2) The variables that were identified to have a statistically significant impact on happiness were age, income, time spent on housework on weekends, satisfaction with spouse's participation in housework and childcare, average working time, family-fiendly service in the workplace, flexibility of work schedule, and balance between work and family. The majority of the variables that influence balance between work and family, and happiness related to aspects of work, such as family-fiendly service, flexibility of work schedules, and average working time. The results also found that the load of housework and childcare on weekends is a heavy burden for working women. Further research needs to focus on developing the extending index of happiness including the measure of balance between work and life. In addition, further studies with more varied groups need to be conducted.
