  • To research about the fire spread in Korean apartment house, a full-scale fire test in a four-story apartment was executed. The fire started at the third floor, and originated from overheated cooking oil in the kitchen. The apartment included all combustibles in general house. Through measuring temperature, measuring the concentration of oxygen and observing, we investigated the fire spread inside the apartment house. As a result, we got the data of the time needed for the initiation of fire, the time for fire to spread into each area in the house, and the time required until flash-over was seen. Also we grasped the understanding of the fire spread to the upper floor.

  • This paper is for response feature of fire detectors not only to analysis response feature of fire detector, but also to observe flame spread of inside-building and fire enlargement by using the row house which is supposed to be broken up. Many kinds of popular detectors such as heat type detector(differential type, fixed temperature type, Analogue type)and smoke type(light scattered type, Analogue type, single alarm type) were installed in the house in order to check for the change of temperature by installing of thermocouples. As a result, smoke detectors are better than heat detectors when it comes to making effective fire-detect system in the row house.

  • This research has set up the fire protection and early suppression plan for Asan Oeam folk village which is composed of traditional wooden building instinct or complex. The results of this study are as follows. 1. The traditional wooden buildings require attentive considerations about the fire property of the Waga and the straw roofed house. Especially, as the straw roofed house has property that the transfer and development of the fire is fast. Therefore we studied on the transferring possibilities of the fire dangerous instinct through measuring the distance from of the eaves edge and trees in neighboring house. 2. This research proposes the tools for the priority protective building through consideration of fire risk and cultural priority because the fire prevention for all is impossible at the same time. 3. The most important thing is preserve the cultural identities of traditional folk village in establishing the fire hydrant and fire prevention facilities. Traditional folk village landscape should be considered.

  • A fire broke out in a working wood-burning stove and destroyed an idyllic house about two years after it was built. This study analyzed data provided through the court by the fire station, police station, fire insurance investigation agency, house construction company, and wood-burning stove maker Based on the fire pattern of low-temperature long-term ignition that remained in the studs, the fire was found to be caused by the conduction of heat in the fire box to the studs of the wall next to the wood-burning stove. A fire simulation showed that the low-temperature long-term ignition of the studs next to the wood-burning stove occurred because a hole was not made for ventilation in the chimney.

  • In this paper, a single house fire alarm device, which can solve the problem of fire perception at midnight time and the attenuation of alarm signal due to the wall between rooms based on the wireless communication, was developed. The radio controlled fire alarm device was designed to allow fire to be recognized quickly and accurately by monitoring the temperature and $CO_2$ concentration based on the temperature sensor and gas sensor, by detecting the fire in the house and by transmitting the fire alarm to the individual wireless alarms of other rooms using the wireless transmission/reception module. Using the Arduino as a main control device, three independent fire alarm device prototypes were made, and their usefulness was verified by the correct operations in temperature and gas tests.

  • An apartment house with a pilotis that raises the architectural volume and provides a space for circulation is becoming popular. With the popularity of pilotis in apartment houses, people also have a keen interest in the potential fire risk at the pilotis. As residents can only access their apartment house through the pilotis, there is a risk to the occupants if there is fire there. Therefore, this study evaluated the pilotis fire cases of urban multifamily housing to conduct a Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) and Fire Evacuation Simulation (FES). Through these two simulation methods, it is possible to validate the riskiness of fire at an apartment with a pilotis. The study identified that the toxic gases and flame spread out to the pilotis within hundred seconds after ignition. In addition, the toxic gases and flame also reach the second floor within three seconds and the entire building within 735 seconds if the entrance doors at the pilotis are opened. On the other hand, the FES simulation results showed that it also takes about approximately 609 seconds to excavate from the apartment house with a pilotis. Therefore, this research shows that an apartment house with a pilotis can ensure the building occupants' lives and their safety if there is fire.

  • In this paper, the evaluating test methods of the fire and the electric shock on the Electric pad using the house is proposed. We analyzed electric pad using magnetic shielded type hot wire because electric pad using the magnetic shielded type hot wire generally be used in the home. We analyzed FMEA in order to analyze the mechanism of the fire and the electric shock of the electric pad and designed testing methods (Durability tests on the environment, Mechanical durability tests, Electrical durability tests) obtained through the two-step QFD and tested. We verified the evaluating test methods of the fire and the electric shock on the Electric pad using the house through the analysis of the test results.

  • Since 2011, apartment houses account for about 41% of the fires in residential facilities for the past 10 years. Fire-resistant performance of fire doors is becoming more important to prevent the spread of fire in apartment houses. This research analyzed the structure of fire door through each 10 DB based on the quality inspection report of Continuous Acquisition & Life-cycle Support(CALS) from 2016 to 2020, which passed the fire performance test based on the laws and notices of domestic fire door. Therefore, based on the results of the analysis of DB in the future, we will conduct a study on structural improvement and addition for fireproof performance improvement of fire door.

  • Globally, the forest fires are a significant contributor of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. In this study, fuel load consumed by forest fire and emission of green house gases were analysed in the surface layer. For this, remaining fuel was collected and weighed with the species (Japanese red pine, deciduous) and the forest fire types (surface fire, crown fire) in the 51 forest fires. 8,361 kg/ha fuel load was consumed in deciduous forest damaged by surface fire, and 8,055 kg/ha, 12,333 kg/ha in Japanese red pine burned by surface fire and crown fire. The combustion ratios were 78, 59, and 90%, respectively. 15,856 kg/ha the green house gases such as $CO_2$, $CH_4$, $CH_4$ in deciduous forest burned by surface fire was emitted and 14,834 kg/ha, 22,709 kg/ha in Japanese red pine burned by surface fire and crown fire.
