A finite element-based, integrated process model is presented for a three dimensional, coupled analysis of the thermal and mechanical behavior of type 304 stainless slab during hot charge rolling (HCR) and cold charge rolling (CCR) processes. The validity of the proposed model is examined through comparison with measurements. The susceptibility on micro-crack initiation or propagation due to the thermal stress in these two different process conditions was examined. The model's capability of revealing the effect of diverse process parameters is demonstrated through a series of process simulation.

The End Coupling is main component of the aluminum hot roll process. The End Coupling is used for transmission of rotational power with heavy-duty load. Fracture of the End Coupling cause serious economic losses because an End Coupling is a very expensive component and it takes a long time to repair it. Therefore, preventing the destruction of the End Coupling is essential for ensuring a long mechanical life cycle. In this paper, the parametric study on the End Coupling was performed in order to minimize maximum stress under operation loads. To verify the interference of spindle assembly with modified End Coupling, kinematics simulation was performed by applying the various combination type and dynamic boundary condition of the spindle assembly. The interference of optimized model was not occurred during combination process and driving process. As a result of an optimum design for life extension on End Coupling, the maximum stress of modified End Coupling was lower than that of the initial model by 26%.

The temperature distribution of high speed tool steel wire/bar during high speed hot rolling procedures has been studied in this study. The tool steels wire/bar show severe temperature gradient during rolling procedures and the temperature of center part much higher than that of the surface. This temperature gradient accumulated after every rolling procedure and the center of rolled wire/bar could be remelt in a certain stage to cause inside defects. In the present study, the temperature distribution was simulated using finite element method and the processing parameters such as rolling speed, cooling condition, has been discussed to prevent the temperature increases of center wire/bar.

Copper tube rolling process using the planetary rolling mill has been studied by using finite element method. This rolling is process that makes copper tube by three-roll with mannesmann method. Also, rolling process has started from the cold working and finished to the hot working. This rolling process has more advantage that make reduction of process and cost than existing extrusion. This process includes various and complex process parameters. Each of the process parameters affects forming result. Therefore, all of the process parameters should be considered in copper tube rolling. Rolling process for copper tube was successfully simulated and it should be useful to determine optimal rolling condition.

Developed the model equations which calculate roll force, roll power during hot rolling in real time. The variables which mainly effect on the roll force, roll power are shape factor, reduction, roll diameter, roll velocity, strip inlet temperature, carbon content of strip and strip-roll contact friction coefficient. Among these variables roll diameter, roll velocity, inlet temperature, carbon content and friction coefficient can be excluded in interpolated model equation by introducing equation of die force(F'), power(p') of the frictionless uniform plane strain compression which can be calculated without iteration. At the case of coulomb friction coefficient of 0.3, we evaluated coefficient of polynomial equations of {{{{ { F} over {F' } }}}}, {{{{ { Pf} over {Pd }, { Pd} over {P' } }}}} from the result of finite element analysis using interpolation. It was found that the change of values of {{{{ { F} over {F' }, { P} over {P' } }}}} with the friction coefficient tend to straight line which slope depend only on shape factor. With these properties, developed model equations could be extended to other values of coulomb friction coefficient. To verify developed roll force, roll power model equation we compared the results from these model equation with the results from these model equation with the results from finite element analysis in factory process condition.
Corrosion and mechanical behavior of the hot-rolled 0.5%Gd-0.8%B-stainless steel to develop a spent nuclear fuel storage material was studied in a simulated nuclear waste treatment condition with rolling condition. The austenite and ferrite phases of the 0.5%Gd-0.8%B-stainless steels are about 88:12. The average austenite and ferrite grain size of the plane normal to rolling, transverse and normal directions of the hot rolled specimens are about 5.08, 8.94, 19.35, 23.29, 26.00 and 18.11 [${\mu}m$], respectively. The average micro-hardness of the as-cast specimen is 200.4 Hv, whereas, that of the hot-rolled specimen are 220.1, 204.7 and 203.5 [$H_v$] for the plane normal to RD, TD and ND, respectively. The UTS, YS and elongation of the as-cast and the hot-rolled specimen are 699, 484 [MPa], 34.0%, and 654, 432 [MPa] and 33.3%, respectively. The passivity was observed both for the as-cast and the hot rolled specimens in a simulated nuclear waste solution. The corrosion potential and corrosion rate of the as-casted specimens are $-343[mV_{SHE}]$ and $3.26{\times}10^{-7}[A/cm^2]$, whereas, those of the hot rolled specimens with normal to ND, RD and TD are -630, -512 and -620 [$mV_{SHE}$] and $6.12{\times}10^{-7}$, $1.04{\times}10^{-6}$ and $6.92{\times}10^{-7}[A/cm^2]$, respectively. Corrosion tends to occur preferentially Cr and B rich area.

Once hot forgings for automotive parts such as wheel bearing flange to which cyclic asymmetric bending stress is continuously applied are produced, it is necessary to control their microstructure to obtain superior mechanical properties. It is however hard to control the microstructure uniformly because the strength is reduced as coarsening of ferrite grains. To investigate the microstructural alteration according to process variables during hot working, the variation of the ferrite grain size was studied by utilizing of the computer aided servo-hydraulic Gleeble tester which is hot deformation behavior reproduction equipment. In addition, the effect of the ferrite grain size of raw material on the austenite grain behavior of hot forgings was also examined. The rolling contact fatigue resistance of the induction hardened SAE 1055 steel was compared with the occasion of the same condition of SAE52100 bearing steel. As a result, it was confirmed that the ferrite grain sizes of the forgings depend on the heating temperature and cooling start temperature during hot forging and cooling processes. The induction hardened SAE1055 steel showed a superior rolling contact fatigue resistance to the induction hardened SAE52100 steel. The reason is that SAE1055 steel is freer from the material defect such as segregation than the comparative steel.

Excessive wavy surfaces formed by a cold or hot-rolling process in a thin plate degrade the value of the plate significantly, which is called flatness problem in the industry. It is a result of post-buckling due to the residual stress caused by the rolling process. A unique difficulty of the problem as a buckling problem is that the buckling length is not given but has to be found. a new approach is developed to solve the flatness problem by extending a classic post-buckling analysis method based on the energy principle. The approach determines the buckling length and amplitude. The new solution approach can be used to determine the condition for the maximum rolling production that does not cause the flatness problem.
A hot press method was used to create the optimal fabrication condition for a Shape Memory Alloy(SMA) composite. The bonding strength between the matrix and the reinforcement within the SMA composite by the hot press method was more increased by cold rolling. In this study, the objective was to develop an on-line monitoring system in order to prevent the crack initiation and propagation by shape memory effect in SMA composite. Shape memory effect was used to prevent the SMA composite from crack propagation. For this system an optimal AE parameter should be determined according to the degree of damage and crack initiation. When the SMA composite was heated by the plate heater attached at the composite, the propagating cracks could be controlled by the compressive force of SMA.

This paper shows an deformation behavior of steel cast slabs, which is used to prevent internal cracks of a slab in an unbending zone, in case of hot charge rolling(HCR) and hot direct rolling(HDR). The value of moving strand shell bulging between two supporting rollers under ferrostatic pressure has been computed in terms of creep and elastic-plasticity and for high strand surface temperature and high casting speed V=1.4-2.2m/min. The strain and strain rate distributions in solidified shell undergoes a series of bulging are calculated with boundary condition a very closed to continuous steel cast slabs productions.
