Edger 압연모델 최적화를 통한 후판압연 실수율 개선 (Optimization of edger model to increase rolling yields in the plate mill)

  • To increase rolling yields by minimizing trimming losses of hot-rolled plate, optimization logic for the edger model has been developed. The logic to determine optimum edging amount model has been formulated on the basis of actual production rolling data. In case of broadside rolling, the fish tail shape at the sides of plate was better for reducing the crop loss and this could be achieved when the edging amount of broadside rolling was increased. At a given broadside rolling ratio, methodology to determine optimum edging amount for the finish rolling which could minimize the width deviation of plate were systematically derived. Therefore, for a given broadside rolling condition and the permissible tolerance in width deviation of plate, it was possible to optimize the edging amount in finish rolling to maximize rolling yields. The application of optimization logic in this study increased rolling yields from approximately 10% to 30% at various longitudinal eding raitos.

  • The shape of edge cracking in rolling process generally occurred "V" shape. This cracking is successively generated at width edge of strip. The edge cracking is developed to center of strip during rolling process. In the results, the strip is occurred fracture, and the productivity is gone down because of the extensive production time. Accordingly, we need to control crack propagation during rolling process. But, the control of cracking is very difficult in rolling process. Previously the studies of edge cracking were mainly performed on hot rolling process. In this paper, the shape of the edge cracking in rolling was estimated according to process conditions such as initial edge crack size, reduction ratio and tension using FE-simulation and the simplicity experiments on cold rolling process.

  • In plate mill studies on crop decrease of the top and bottom ends of hot rolled plate have been performed. The plane view shape for the thin plate after broadside rolling was controlled by roll gap difference with AGC in broadside rolling process. New models for thin slab after broadside rolling have been formulated based on the actual production rolling data to give optimal rolling condition A new plate rolling method called by dog bone rolling has been applied making it is possible to prevent non-uniform plastic deformation at top and bottom ends. By new rolling method crop losses of rolled plate have been improved by 10% on average with an effective fishtail crop shape.

  • In hot roiling process, new rolling mills have been apapted to strip rolling but we can usually experience the problem of snaking of strip. This phenomenon was arisen by nonsymmetric rolling and on-centering and cambering of a strip and other mill conditions. Three dimensional analysis for strip rolling predicted the influence of nonsymmetric rolling, off-centering and pair crossing system This study evaluated the fundamental characteristics of snaking of a strip to optimize the operating condition for trouble free rolling.

군집기반 열간조압연설비 상태모니터링과 진단 (Clustering-based Monitoring and Fault detection in Hot Strip Roughing Mill)

  • Purpose: Hot strip rolling mill consists of a lot of mechanical and electrical units. In condition monitoring and diagnosis phase, various units could be failed with unknown reasons. In this study, we propose an effective method to detect early the units with abnormal status to minimize system downtime. Methods: The early warning problem with various units is defined. K-means and PAM algorithm with Euclidean and Manhattan distances were performed to detect the abnormal status. In addition, an performance of the proposed algorithm is investigated by field data analysis. Results: PAM with Manhattan distance(PAM_ManD) showed better results than K-means algorithm with Euclidean distance(K-means_ED). In addition, we could know from multivariate field data analysis that the system reliability of hot strip rolling mill can be increased by detecting early abnormal status. Conclusion: In this paper, clustering-based monitoring and fault detection algorithm using Manhattan distance is proposed. Experiments are performed to study the benefit of the PAM with Manhattan distance against the K-means with Euclidean distance.

  • Purpose: It is essential for the steel industry to produce steel products without unexpected downtime to reduce costs and produce high quality products. A hot strip rolling mill consists of many mechanical and electrical units. In condition monitoring and diagnosis, various units could fail for unknown reasons. Methods: In this study, we propose an effective method to detect units with abnormal status early to minimize system downtime. The early warning problem with various units was first defined. An autoencoder was modeled to detect abnormal states. An application of the proposed method was also implemented in a simulated field-data analysis. Results: We can compare images of original data and reconstructed images, as well as visually identify differences between original and reconstruction images. We confirmed that normal and abnormal states can be distinguished by reconstruction error of autoencoder. Experimental results show the possibility of prediction due to the increase of reconstruction error from just before equipment failure. Conclusion: In this paper, hot strip roughing mill monitoring method using autoencoder is proposed and experiments are performed to study the benefit of the autoencoder.

  • Crop minimization of the top and bottom ends of hot rolled plate, in a plate, in a plate mill, has been investigated. The existing model to determine the edging pattern at the finishing rolling pass was not reasonable to get high width accuracy and rolling yields. New models including width prediction have been formulated by using neural network model of back propagation learning algorithm and statistical analysis based on the actual production rolling data to give the optimal pattern for minimizing trimming loss. Using these models, at a given rolling condition of broadside pass and finishing pass and the permissible condition of width variation, it was possible to minimize crip at the top and bottom ends according to optimum procedure in plate mill. An application to improve the plan view pattern reduced width variation by 23% and crop length by 30% on average with an effective fishtail crop shape.

  • Recently, a sheet forming process of Mg alloys is highlighted again due to increasing demand for Mg wrought alloys in the applications of casings of mobile electronics and outer-skins of light-weight transportation. Microstructure control is essential for the enhancement of workability and formability of Mg alloy sheets. In this research, AZ31 Mg alloy sheets were prepared by hot rolling process and the rolling condition dependency of the microstructure and texture evolution was studied by employing a conventional rolling mill as well as an asymmetric rolling mill. When rolled through multiple passes with a small reduction per pass, fine-grained and homogeneous microstructure evolved by repetitive dynamic and static recrystallization. With higher rolling temperature, dynamic recrystallization was initiated in lower reduction. However with increasing reduction per pass, deformation was locallized in band-like regions, which provided favorable nucleation sites f3r dynamic recrystallization. Through post annealing process, the microstructures could be transformed to more equiaxed and homogeneous grain structures. Textures of the rolled sheets were characterized by $\{0002\}$ basal plane textures and retained even after post annealing. On the other hand, asymmetrically rolled and subsequently annealed sheets exhibited unique annealing texture, where $\{0002\}$ orientation was rotated to some extent to the rolling direction and its intensity was reduced.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of alloying and rolling condition on the mechanical properties and to develop high strength line pipe steels with good toughness. Tests were carried out by the laboratory experiments followed by mill trials and mass production. It was found that a small addition of microalloying elements, such as Nb, V with Mo or Ti remarkably increased the strength and toughness of hot strips. The optimum condition of thermomechanical rolling on low carbon microalloyed steel improved the toughness through the formation of a fine and uniform microstructure. Based on this mill trials following the fundamental research, the production technology of line pipe steels, grade X70∼X100 with high toughness, has been established. These grade steels exhibit excellent low temperature toughness (vTs= under -80$^{\circ}C$) and sufficient strength in both the base metal and the ERW seam weld position, respectively.

  • The reliability of EIC(Electricity, Instrumentation and Computer) systems in hot rolling mill is very important in order to maintain stable production. Signals obtained from sensors and control system should be analyzed to monitor the condition of down coiler in hot rolling mill. We develop a monitoring system of down coiler which is composed of three parts : (1) data acquisition and MMI, (2) signal processing and analyzing, and (3) automatic data saving. Also it is designed to enable to inform users the abnormal conditions of down coiler. This developed system is expected to make it possible to reduce long downtime, secure high facility precision, and maintain high control levels.
