A Study on the Manufacture of Extrusion Square Die (평금형 CNC 가공 S/W 개발에 관한 연구)

  • Square dies are widely used for hot extrusion processes with high production rate, however, the design and manufacture of square dies mainly relies on experience of industrial engineers. To overcome such difficulty, this study presents a method of automatic generation of NC-codes for the manufacture of extrusion square dies. The result shows that the method can reduce the lead-time for the design and manufacture of square dies.

  • The direct extrusion with porthole die can produce condenser tube which has the competitive power in costs and qualities compared with the existing conform extrusion. In general, porthole die extrusion has a great advantage in the forming that produces the hollow sections difficult to produce by conventional extrusion with a mandrel on the stem. Especially, condenser tube manufactured by porthole die belongs to sophisticated part and demands tighter dimension tolerance and higher surface finish than any other part. In order to confirm the general of porthole die extrusion, we perform the 3D FE analysis of hot porthole extrusion in non-steady state by using DEFORM 3D and investigate a pattern of elastic deformation for porthole die through the stress analysis using ANSYS 5.5 during extrusion process.

  • A composite material consists of two or more different material layers. Copper clad aluminum composite materials are being used for economic and structural reasons. This study is concerned with experimental investigation in the direct extrusion of copper clad aluminum rods through conical dies. The suggestion are given for the proper extrudability of copper clad aluminum rods via hot direct extrusion. This paper presents the variation of flow state and hardness at a variable of extrusion ratio and semi-angle of die. By measuring after and before extrusion radius ratio of Cu sleeve and Al core, proportional flow state has been considered. And also by measuring hardness, through extrusion way, a variation of hardness has been considered.

  • The bending process for the rectangular curved tube can be developed by the hot metal extrusion machine with the multiple punches moving in the different velocity. The bending phenomenon can be controlled by the two variables, the one of them is the difference of velocity at the die exit section by the different velocity of billets through the multi-hole container. The other is the difference by the different hole diameter. The results of the experiment show that the rectangular curved tube can be formed by the extrusion process and that the curvature of the curved product can be controlled by the velocity of punch and the diameter of container hole and that the defects such as the distortion of section and the thickness change of the wall of tube and the folding and wrinkling of thin tube did not happen after the bending processing by the extrusion bending machine.

  • Porthole die extrusion is profitable to manufacture long tube with hollow section. The material through portholes is gathered within chamber and welded under high pressure. This weldability which classifies the quality of tube product is affected by several variables and die shape. But, porthole die extrusion has been executed on the experience of experts due to the complicated die assembly and complexity of metal flow. Analytic approaches that are useful in profitable die design and in the improvement of productivity are inevitably demanded. Therefore, the objective of this study is respectively to analyze the behavior of metal flow and to determine welding pressure of hot extrusion product according to the various billet temperature, bearing length and tube thickness by FE analysis and its results are compared with tube expanding tests.

  • In this paper, the process of extruding Cu-10Fe alloy using a finite element analysis (FEA) was theoretically analyzed. To achieve this, the dependence of strain rate and temperature of the alloy required for the extrusion process was secured by utilizing databases for Cu and Fe and the KHL model. For microstructure analysis, FE-SEM with EDS was used to distinguish the phases present in Cu-10Fe alloy. The mechanical characteristics of Cu-10Fe alloy were secured using the results of fitting the mechanical properties of Copper and Steel from the Deform database to the KHL model. The deformation behavior within the alloy during hot extrusion was analyzed, providing insights into effective stress, effective strain, effective strain rate, and temperature. It was observed that the strain distribution was non-uniform. These research findings contribute to an improved understanding of the hot extrusion process of Cu-10Fe alloy and can aid in predicting the mechanical properties of the material.

In this paper, the parameters, which are such as billet temperature, bearing length and tube thickness, are examined. The welding pressures are examined through 3D simulation of non steady state and compared with experimental results.

  • This paper presents development of finite element simulation program and analysis of hot extrusion through square dies with a mandrel. The design of extrusion dies is still an art rather than science. Die design for a new extrusion process is developed from through in-plant trials. In the present paper, a three-dimensional steady-state finite element simulation program is developed. Steady-state assumption is used for both the analyses of deformation and temperature. The developed program is effectively used to simulate hollow extrusion of several sections. Distributions of temperature effective strain rate, mean strain rate and mean stress are studied for an effective design of extrusion dies.

  • Magnesium alloys are being extensively used in weight-saving applications and as a potential replacement for plastics in electronic and computer applications. Magnesium alloy has some good characteristics, EMI shielding property and high specific strength. Nevertheless their high brittleness make it uneasy to process the magnesium. Magnesium alloys are extruded like aluminium alloys. The present work was done to find a characteristic of magnesium alloy(AZ31) changing the extrusion ratio 8.5, 19.1, 49 respectly and changing the die half angle $30^{\circ},\;45^{\circ},\;60^{\circ}$. Here this present done by the hydrostatic extrusion in the hot condition, $310^{\circ}$. The higher the extrusion ratio goes, the higher the extrusion force goes.

  • This paper describes experimental investigations in the direct extrusion of copper clad aluminum rods through conical dies. Composite materials consist of two or more different material layers. Copper clad aluminum composite materials are being used fur economic and structural purposes and the development of an efficient production method of copper clad aluminum composite material rods by extrusion is very important, It is necessary to know the conditions in which successful uniform extrusion ,and sound cladding may be carried out without any defects in the direct extrusion. There are several variables that have an influence on determining a sound clad extrusion. In order to investigate the influence of these parameters on the hot direct extrudability of the copper clad aluminum composite material rods, the experimental study have been performed with various extrusion temperatures, extrusion ratios and semi-cone angles of die. Subsequently, the microscopic inspection of interface bonding is carried out for extruded products. By measuring hardness, along extrusion way of products, a variation of hardness has been discussed. Proportional flow state has been considered by measuring radius ratio of Cu sleeve and Al core before and after extrusion.
