SHS 화학로에 의한 (Ti.W)C 복탄화물의 합성 및 기계적 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Synthesis and Mechanical Properties of (Ti.W)C Complex Carbide by SHS Chemical Furnace)

  • (Ti.W)C complex carbide was synthesized by self-propagating high temperature synthesis (SHS) chemical furnace. Attempt to find the optimal condition for synthesis of (Ti.W)C the effects of molar ratio of Ti:W:C on the synthesized powders and mechanical properties were investigated, Optimum molar ratio of these synthe-sized powder was Ti:W:C=0.7:0.2:1.0 The bulk density M,O.R Hardness Fracture toughness of (Ti.W)C complex carbide sintered at 200$0^{\circ}C$ for 60 min by hot-pressing under the pressure of 20 MPa were 7.6g/cm3, 475 MPa, 17,.7 GPa respectively.

다이아몬드 공구용 Co-Fe, Co-Ni 본드 소재의 마멸상대재에 따른 건식 미끄럼 마찰 및 마멸거동 (Effects of Counterpart Materials on Dry Sliding Wear and Friction Behavior of Co-Fe, Co-Ni Bond Materials for Diamond Tools)

  • 고온가압소결(Hot Pressing) 된 다이아몬드 공구용 Co-Fe, Co-Ni계 금속본드의 상온 건식 미끄럼 마멸시험을 행하고, 조성에 따른 각 본드의 마멸 특성을 비교하고 마멸 기구를 규명하였다. 미끄럼 마멸시험은 pin-on-disk 형태의 마멸시험기를 사용하여 각 조성의 성분, 적용하중 그리고 마멸상대재를 변수로 상온, 대기 중에서 실시되었다. 마멸속도는 마멸시험 전후의 시편의 무게 감량을 이론밀도와 거리로 나누어 계산되었다. 마멸기구의 규명을 위하여 시험된 시편의 마멸면과 마멸단면을 SEM과 EDS를 이용하여 분석하였다. 시험 결과 Co-Fe system의 경우 그 마멸속도는 마멸상대재의 영향보다는 Fe 첨가에 따른 시편의 미세조직과 기계적 성질의 차이에 따라 크게 변화하였다. 그러나 Co-Ni system의 마멸속도는 마멸 상대재에 따라 크게 변화하는 것이 관찰되었다. $Al_2$O$_3$를 상대재로 마멸된 경우에는 마멸속도가 시편/상대재 접촉면에서 형성되는 산화층의 영향을 크게 받았고, glass bead(83% SiO$_2$)를 상대재로 한 경우에는 시편의 경도와 마멸속도는 서로 반비례하였다.

  • For the development of solid oxide fuel cell the joined interface formation between perovskite oxygen electrode and YSZ solid electrolyte is emphasized in the aspect of reducing the undisirable overpotential. The diffusion couple of LaMnO3 and YSZ was prepared by hot pressing at 130$0^{\circ}C$ in the flow of oxygen gas. The high temperature solid state reaction mechanism between LaMnO3 and YSZ is discussed on the basis of the cation composition profile through EDX analysis. The cation components in perovskite compound diffuse considerably into YSZ, while cations of YSZ diffuse little into perovskite.

Damage Tolerance in Hardly Coated Layer Structure with Modest Elastic Modulus Mismatch

  • A study is made on the characterization of damage tolerance by spherical indentation in hardly coated layer structure with modest elastic modulus mismatch. A hard silicon nitride is prepared for the coating material and silicon nitride with 5wt% of boron nitride composites for underlayer. Hot pressing to eliminate the effect of interface delamination during the fracture makes strong interfacial bonding. The elastic modulus mismatch between the layers is not only large enough to suppress the surface crack initiation from the coating layer but sufficiently small to prevent the initiation of radial crack from the interface. The strength degradation of the layer structure after sphere contact indentation does not significantly occur, while the degradation of silicon nitride-boron nitride composite is critical at a high load and high number of contacts.

Elevated Temperature Strength and Microstructure of Atomized and Ball-milled Al-xFe-yCr Alloys

  • Gas atomization mechanical alloying and hot pressing have successfully made high temperature Al-9.45Fe-4.45Cr alloy. The microstructure and mechanical properties of this alloy has been studied by using optical microscope, scanning electron microscope, transmission electron microscope, X-ray diffractometer and compressive tester. It contains high concentration of transition elements of Fe and Cr, which form thermally stable dispersoids in the aluminum matrix. Proper oxidation of powders during ball milling strengthens the bulk extrudates by providing the obstacle particles. The oxide particles are very chemically and thermally stable and prevent the coarsening of the intermediate compounds.

저온 기계적 합금화한 nanocrystalline Al-5at.%Ti 합금의 압축변형거동 (The Compressive Deformation Behavior of Nanocrystalline Al-5at.%Ti Alloy Prepared by Mechanical Alloying at Low Temperature)

  • Mechanical properties of nanocrystalline Al-5at.%Ti alloy were investigated through high temperature compression test. Al-5at.%Ti nanocrystalline metal powders, which had finer and more equiaxed shape than those produced at room temperature, were produced by mechanical alloying at low temperature. The powders were successfully consolidated to 99fo of theoretical density by vacuum hot pressing. XRD and TEM analysis revealed that $Al_3Ti$ intermetallic compounds formed inside powders and pure Al region with coarse grains formed between powders, especially at triple junction. Mechanical properties in terms of hardness and strength were improved by grain size refinement, but ductility decreased presumably due to the formation of the weak interfaces between Al pool and powders.

  • This study was to analyse the relationship between process parameters of the sintered composite and plasma nitriding properties with pulsed DC plasma. Fe-40at%$SiC_p$ composites of full density were fabricated by hot pressing at 1100~$1150^{\circ}C$. Sintered Fe-40at%Al and Fe-40at%$Al/SiC_p$ alloys were nitrided under pulsed DC plasma. Excellent surface hardness in the FeAl alloys could be obtained by plasma nitriding. ($H_v$ :100gf, diffusion layer : 1100~$1450kg/mm^2$, matrix : 330~$360kg/mm^2$) The wear resistance of $FeAl/SiC_p$ composites were improved about by 4~6times than FeAl and nitrided $FeAl/SiC_p$ were improved about 2 times than $FeAl/SiC_p$ matrix.

  • The elevated temperature compressive tests were carried out in order to investigate the deformation behavior and microstructural characteristics of Al-8%Ti, Al-12%Ti and Al-16%Ti (wt%) alloys, which were mechanically alloyed and consolidated by vacuum hot pressing, A13Ti intermetallic phases were formed with sizes of few hundred nanometers in the mechanically alloyed Al-Ti alloys. The compressive strength of mechanically alloyed AA-Ti alloys increased with decroasing the temperature and with increasing the strain rate. The strain rate sensitivities of Al-8%Ti, Al-12%Ti and Al-16%Ti alloys were measured 0.02,0.03, and 0.14, respectively, at 35$0^{\circ}C$.

Metal-Polymer Composites and their Characterization

  • PVDF was used as a polymeric matrix material in this work. Nickel powders with average particles size of 200 nm or 72 nm were used as fillers. PVDF/metal submicro- and nanocomposites were prepared by means of a mixing in twin screw extruder and planetary ball mill, respectively. All samples were prepared by hot pressing method. Their electrical, thermal and morphological properties were examined by dielectric spectroscopy, DSC, FTIR, XRD, optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. It was found that all properties of composites were strongly modified depending on the content of metal powders and filler particles size. Particularly, specific volume resistivity of PVDF/Ni composite with 0.2 wt.% of Ni was increased by factor of 1.5~4.

초내열합금 HIP 성형을 위한 금형설계 (Die design for HIP'ing of Nickel-base Superalloys)

  • Nickel base superalloys are widely used for high temperature applications due to heat resisting capability and corrosion resistance at high temperatures. Superalloys with many strengthening alloying elements are frequently used in powder form to alleviate harmful effects of alloy segregation. HIP (hot isostatic pressing) and DB (diffusion bonding) as a form of solid-state bonding process is used to make turbine components, such as integrated turbine rotors. HIP/DB process requires many technical overcomes related to dimensional changes as well as microstructural control. In this research, HIP/DB process for nickel base superalloys, Udimet 720 and MM 247, were investigated with a view to control the dimensional change during the consolidation process. Simple disc-shaped cans were used to select the conceptual die design for the control of the dimensional change especially in radial direction. The change in the shape of consolidated shape was investigated using commercial FE code with constitutive equations fur low temperature plasticity deformation.
