  • Solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC) has a higher fuel flexibility than low temperature fuel cells, such as polymer electrolyte fuel cell(PEMFC) and phosphoric acid fuel cell(PAFC). SOFCs also use CO and $CH_4$ as a fuel, because SOFCs are hot enough to allow the CH4 steam reformation(SR) reaction and water-gas shift(WGS) reaction occur within the SOFC stack itself. Diesel is a good candidate for SOFC system fuel because diesel reformate gas include a higher degree of CO and $CH_4$ concentration than other hydrocarbon(methane, butane, etc.) reformate gas. Selection of catalyst for autothermalr reforming of diesel was performed in this paper, and characteristics of reforming performance between packed-bed and microchannel catalyst are compared for SOFC system. The mesh-typed microchannel catalyst also investigated for diesel ATR operation for 1kW-class SOFC system. 1kW-class diesel microchannel ATR was continuously operated about 30 hours and its reforming efficiency was achieved nearly 55%.

  • The study examines the anti-cancer effects of the hot water extract of Mylabris phalerata(MP) using SNU-C5 cell lines. Microscopic analysis showed that 12 hours after MP treatment, the number of dead cells increased prominently. Significant cell death was observed 12, 24, and 48 hours after MP treatment through trypan blue exclusion testing. This suggests that MP is time-dependently cytotoxic. Mitotracker Red CMXRos staining and flowcytometry revealed that MP decreased mitochondrial membrane potentials. The absence of peaks on PI staining showed that DNA damage occurred in MP treated cells. Taken together, measurements suggest that MP has a strong anti-cancer effect on SNU-5 cell lines, and that this is likely to be due to the destruction of mitochondria and DNA damage.

  • A key point of a soldering process for photovoltaic (PV) modules is to increase an adhesive strength leading a low resistivity between ribbon and cell. In this study, we intended to optimize a heating condition for the soldering process and characterize the soldered joint via physical and chemical analysis methods. For the purpose, the heating conditions were adjusted by IR lamp power, heating time and hot plate temperature for preheating a cell. Since then the peel test for the ribbon and cell was conducted, consequently the peel strength data shows that there is some optimum soldering condition. In here, we observed that the peel strength was modified by increasing the heating condition. Such a soldering property is affected by a various factors of which the soldered joint, flux and bus bar of the cell are changed on the heating condition. Therefore, we tried to reveal causes determining the soldering property through analyzing the soldered interface.

  • Dynamics of the proton exchange membrane fuel cell is specially important when the system is frequently working on transient conditions. Even though the dynamics of proton exchange membrane fuel cell for residential power generation is less critical than that of PEMFC for transportation application, the system dynamics of PEMFC for RPG can be very important for daily start-up and stop. In particular, thermal management of the PEMFC for RPG is very important because the heat generation from electrochemical reaction is delivered to the home for hot water usages. Additionally, the thermal management is also very important for heat balance of the system and temperature control of the fuel cell. The objective of this study is to develop a dynamic system model for the study of PEMFC performance over various BOP options. Basic simulation results will be presented.

  • An anticancer substance was prepared by ethanol precipitation of the hot water extract of culture mycelia of Conolus versicolor KFCC 30388. After 6 days of fermentation, the mycelia growth reached the peak and reducing sugar consumed almost all. HTCFA method has been employed for three human cancer cell lines, Hep-2(larynx cell), A-427 and Calu-3 (lung cell). Anticancer activities in A-427 and Calu-3 were 8.4 and 9.8% survival rate, respectively. The chemical analysis of the extract from the mycelia showed 42.2% of polysaccharide and 10.5% of protein. The polysaccharide consisted of five kinds of monosaccharides, L-glucose, D-glucose, galactose, mannose and xylose.

  • Photovoltaic module consists of serially connected solar cell which has low voltage characteristics. But, the other way, the whole current flow of PV module is restricted by lowest current of one solar cell. For the experiment, we make PV module composing the solar cells that have short circuit current difference of 0%, 1%, 3% and 5%. Using Light I-V and Dark I-V measurements, electrical characteristic parameters like Isc(short-circuit current), Voc(open-circuit voltage), Rs(series resistance), Rsh(shunt resistance) are analyzed. PV module of low current characteristics has electrical stress from other modules. And, such a module has a tendency of hot-spot suffering which leads degradation.

  • A non-vacuum process for $Cu(In,Ga)Se_2$ (CIGS) thin film solar cells from nanoparticle precursors was described in this work CIGS nanoparticle precursors was prepared by a low temperature colloidal route by reacting the starting materials $(CuI,\;InI_3,\;GaI_3\;and\;Na_2Se)$ in organic solvents, by which fine CIGS nanoparticles of about 20nm in diameter were obtained. The nanoparticle precursors were mixed with organic binder material for the rheology of the mixture to be adjusted for the doctor blade method. After depositing the mixture of CIGS with binder on Mo/glass substrate, the samples were preheated on the hot plate in air to evaporate remaining solvents ud to burn the organic binder material. Subsequently, the resultant (porous) CIGS/Mo/glass simple was selenized in a two-zone Rapid Thermal Process (RTP) furnace in order to get a solar ceil applicable dense CIGS absorber layer. Complete solar cell structure was obtained by depositing. The other layers including CdS buffer layer, ZnO window layer and Al electrodes by conventional methods. The resultant solar cell showed a conversion efficiency of 0.5%.

  • Cancer immunotherapy has been acknowledged as a new paradigm for cancer treatment, with notable therapeutic effects on certain cancer types. Despite their significant potential, clinical studies over the past decade have revealed that cancer immunotherapy has low response rates in the majority of solid tumors. One of the key causes for poor responses is known to be the relatively low immunogenicity of solid tumors. Because most solid tumors are immune desert 'cold tumors' with antitumor immunity blocked from the onset of innate immunity, combination therapies that combine validated T-based therapies with approaches that can increase tumor-immunogenicity are being considered as relevant therapeutic options. This review paper focuses on immunogenic cell death (ICD) as a way of enhancing immunogenicity in tumor tissues. We will thoroughly review how ICDs such as necroptosis, pyroptosis, and ferroptosis can improve anti-tumor immunity and outline clinical trials targeting ICD. Finally, we will discuss the potential of ICD inducers as an adjuvant for cancer immunotherapy.

  • DUPIC (Direct Use of spent PWR fuel In CANDU) fuel cycle technology is being developed at Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute (KAERI). All the DUPIC fuel fabrication processes are remotely conducted in the completely shielded M6 hot-cell located in the Irradiated Material Examination Facility (IMEF) at KAERI. Undesirable products such as spent nuclear fuel powder debris and contaminated wastes are inevitably created during the DUPIC nuclear fuel fabrication processes.(omitted)
