Derivation of Necessary Items for Implementation of Gardens in Urban Agricultural Parks

  • Background and objective: This study was conducted to obtain empirical data for deriving necessary items for the creation and management of gardens in urban agricultural parks while maintaining the publicness of the place by examining the difference in perception among park visitors about the gardens in the public parks. Methods: A survey was conducted on users of urban agricultural parks in 6 locations and 113 copies of the questionnaire were collected. After understanding the demographic characteristics and the current use of the garden, we identified the importance of the necessary items for the public gardens. Results: 108 subjects(95.6%) responded that gardens are needed in urban parks, for psychological and emotional health (26.2%) and for interaction and friendship with family and neighbors(23.2%). For use of garden crops, most were private sales(96 subjects, 64.4%), and both sales preferred to partially donate their crops. Most used communal gardens operated by public institutions(30.1%). It was found that 96.4% of the respondents were satisfied with gardening activities, and 107(94.7%) of them showed their intention to participate in the gardening in the future. The Kaiser Meyer Olkin value was .848 and the significance level was .001, proving the validity of factor analysis. The factors were named composition elements(Factor 1), management items(Factor 2), convenience elements(Factor 3), and operational facilities(Factor 4). In the survey on the creation and management of gardens in urban agricultural parks, there were no statistically significant differences, but all items had correlations. Conclusion: The results have reflected the needs of actual users in establishing the plans to operate urban gardens, thereby having great utility value as the basic data for continuous garden management. Further research can be conducted to derive detailed elements that can guarantee sustainability of urban gardens and suggest high-quality data for management of gardens in urban agricultural parks.

Introduction of the representative mushroom cultivars and groundbreaking cultivation techniques in Korea

  • The production scale of mushrooms in Korea is approximately 600 billion won, which is 1.6% of Korea's gross agricultural output. In Korea, ca. 190,000 tons of mushrooms are harvested annually. Although the numbers of mushroom farms and cultivators are constantly decreasing, total mushroom yields are increasing owing to large-scale cultivation facilities and automation. The recent expansion of the well-being trend has caused an increase in mushroom consumption in Korea: the annual per capita mushroom was 3.9 kg ('13), whichis a little higher than that in Europe. Thus, mushroom export, mainly Flammulina velutipes and Pleurotus ostreatus, has increased since the mid-2000s. Recently, however, it is slightly reduced. Nevertheless, Vietnam, Hong Kong, the United States, and the Netherlands continue to export mushrooms, and Korea has increased its export to Australia, Canada, Southeast Asia, etc. Canned Agaricus bisporus, the first export of the Korean mushroom industry, reached it speak sales in 1977-1978. When Korea initiated trade with China in 1980, the international prices of mushrooms fell sharply, leading to shrinkage of the domestic markets. Spurred by the high demand to develop substitute goods for A. bisporus, the oyster mushroom (P. ostreatus) gained attention since it seemed to suit the taste of Korean consumers. Although the log cultivation technique for oyster mushroom was developed in the early 1970s, it required a great deal of labor. Thus, we developed the shelf cultivation technique, which is easier to manage and allows for mass production. In this technique, the growing shelf is made mafrom fermented rice straw, whichis the only P. ostreatus medium in the world and isused only in South Korea. After then, the use of cotton wastes as an additional material of medium, the productivity. Currently, we are developing a standard cultivation technique and environmental control system that can stably produce mushrooms throughout the year. The increase of oyster mushroom production may boostthe domestic market and contribute to industrial development. In addition, oyster mushroom production technology played a role in forming the basis for the development of bottle cultivation, which made mass production. In particular, bottle cultivation using liquid spawn could allow for the export of F. velutipes and Pleurotus eryngii. In addition, the white varieties of F. velutipes were second developed in the world after Japan. We also developed the new A. bisporus cultivar 'Saeah', which is easy to grow in Korea. In hopes to advance the mushroom industry, we will continue to develop cultivars with international competitive power and to improve cultivation techniques.

원예시설 농가의 위험지각이 보험 구매의도에 미치는 영향 - 제주도를 중심으로 - (Effect of Risk Perception of Horticultural Facility Farmers on the Purchase Intention Insurance -Focusing on Jeju island -)

  • 원예시설 농가들은 시설에서 발생할 수 있는 위험에 대비하여 농작물재해보험 원예시설 담보의 보험상품을 가입한다. 상품이 담보하는 태풍, 우박, 동상해, 호우, 강풍피해 등의 자연재해에 대비하기 위하여 보험에 가입하는 것이다. 농가들이 위와 같은 자연재해 등으로 부터 인지할 수 있는, 즉 주어진 상황의 위험성에 대한 주관적인 지각인 위험지각이 원예시설 농가로 하여금 원예시설 보험상품 구매의도에 미치는 영향을 알아보고자 제주지역의 원예시설 농가 소유주를 대상으로 위험지각과 보험구매의도에 대해 분석하였다. 농장규모, 보험가입 여부와 위험지각의 영향관계 규명을 위해 t-test를 시행하였고 주관적 인식, 준거집단, 미디어 노출, 보상이해도 등 개인적 특성과 행동요인이 위험인식에 미치는 영향을 검증하기 위해 다중회귀분석을 하였다. 그리고 위험지각과 보험구매의도의 영향관계에서 개인적 특성 및 행동요인의 매개역할을 확인하기 위해 Baron & Kenny의 3단계 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과 농장규모에 따른 차이는 없으나 보험가입자가 미가입자에 비해 위험지각 정도가 더 높은 것으로 분석되었고 보상이해도가 가장 큰 영향력을 가지며 주관적 지식의 영향력이 가장 작은 것으로 확인되었다. 또한 이 네 가지 요인은 위험지각과 보험구매의도의 영향관계에 매개효과를 갖는 것으로 검증되었다. 이러한 결과는 원예시설 보험상품 개발과 마케팅 활동에 실무적인 도움을 제공할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Analyses of Users Behavior to Construct and Manage Auto Campsites - A Case of the Auto Campsite in Jangsu Nuri Park -

  • The aim of this study is to obtain basic data to set the direction for construct and managing auto campsites. A survey was conducted with users of an auto campsite located in Jangsu Nuri Park in October 2018, and 32 copies of the questionnaire were used in the analysis. Auto camping is typically undertaken for a night or two with family or friends/colleagues. The adequacy of fees and location are important factors in choosing the campsite, so it is desirable to build one in the suburbs of the city and offer it at a reasonable price. Proximity to tourist spots and convenience in using facilities are also factors that must be considered. People are generally engaged in activities such as taking walks, relaxing, and looking around campsites, and they want to enjoy various other amenities like attractions, experiences, entertainment, and active leisure options, which is why there must be facilities to support these behaviors. The first-time visitors of the campsite showed high satisfaction with its individual facilities, while repeat visitors showed high overall satisfaction, which indicates that satisfaction with individual elements did not lead to overall satisfaction.

Current Status of Complementary Therapies Provided by Hospice Palliative Care in South Korea

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigatecomplementary therapiesprovided at hospice palliative care facilities in South Koreaas designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Methods: The survey was conducted via e-mail from September 2 to September 23, 2020, with responsesfrom 109 therapists and 59 managers from 55 different hospice care facilities. Results: Hospices provided an average of 3.67 different types of therapies, ranging from 1 to 7 different types. The most common types of therapies were horticultural therapy (81.4%), music therapy (79.7%), art therapy (76.3%), and aromatherapy (57.6%). The average frequency of sessions was once a week, the median duration was 60 minutes. Most therapists (96.3%) had qualifications, but the certification-issuing organizations and training intensiveness varied greatly. None of the therapists were employed on a full-time basis, and their average monthly income was KRW 270,000. Therapists and managers gave average scores of 8.90 and 8.38 out of 10, respectively, regarding the positive impact of complementary therapies on patients. Conclusion: In order for patients and their families to benefit from complementary therapiesat hospice care facilities, in addition tobetter terms of employment for therapists, evidence-based guidelines for different types of therapies are needed so that therapy sessions can be conducted according to the theoretical underpinnings and characteristics of the type of therapy. It is expected that the results of this study will be used for policy-making in support of therapy as an essential hospice service.

비닐하우스에서 녹비작물 토양환원과 태양열 소독에 의한 인삼뿌리썩음병 억제 (Control of Soil-Borne Pathogens in Ginseng Cultivation through the Use of Cultured Green Manure Crop and Solarization in Greenhouse Facilities)

  • Background: Root diseases caused by Cylindrocarpon destructans and Fusarium solani decrease the yield and quality of ginseng. Cylindrocarpon root rot is a major disease caused by replant failure in ginseng fields. Methods and Results: Solarization of infested greenhouse soil was carried out during the summer season after applying green manure (Sudan grass) and Calcium Cyanamide (CC) on the soil. Mycelium and conidia of C. destructans died at $40^{\circ}C$ after 15 h, but they did not die at $35^{\circ}C$ after 15 h. They also died after keeping the soil at $40^{\circ}C$ for 2 h daily for 9 days, and at $45^{\circ}C$ for 8 days, but they did not die at $38^{\circ}C$ for 9 days. Maximum soil temperature was $55.4^{\circ}C$ at 5 cm depth, $48.7^{\circ}C$ at 10 cm, $44.7^{\circ}C$ at 15 cm, $42.5^{\circ}C$ at 20 cm, and $31.9^{\circ}C$ at 30 cm by incorporating green manure into the soil and using solarization. Solarization using green manure mixed with CC was the most effective in decreasing soil-borne pathogens of 2-year-old ginseng. However, the addition of CC decreased the root weight due to the increase in EC and $NO_3-N$. Conclusions: Soil disinfection using green manure and solarization in a greenhouse environment was effective in inhibiting root rot, however, it did not completely kill the soil-borne pathogens.

원예심리치료가 결손가정아동의 정서적 안정에 미치는 효과성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effectiveness of Horticultural Therapy on the Emotional Stability of Children From Broken Homes)

  • 본 연구는 결손가정아동에게 원예심리치료 실시 후 정서적 안정에 미치는 효과성에 관한 것으로 사회복지 실천현장에서 원예심리치료 프로그램의 가능성을 검증하여 아동의 정서적 우울, 스트레스, 사회성, 자아존중감 효과를 검증하기 위한 것이다. 연구대상은 생애주기적 방법에 따라 시설에 입소되어있는 13명의 저학년을 대상으로 구성하였으며 자료 수집은 구조화된 설문지를 사용하였다. 원예심리치료 프로그램은 2010년 9월 2일부터 2010년 12월 16일 까지 총 14회기를 실시하였고 연구결과의 요약은 다음과 같다. 원예심리치료의 사회성은 사전 2.23,사후 2.76 변화가 .53점 높아졌으며 스트레스 대처 능력 값은 사전 2.30, 사후 2.82로 사후 스트레스대처능력 값이 .52점 높아 졌으며 유의미하였다.(t= -1.4398, p<.05). 사전 불안감 값이 1.60, 사후 불안감 값이 1.45로 사후 불안감 값이 .15점 낮아졌으며 유의미하였다.(t= -2.3842, p<.05). 사전 자아존중감 값이 2.50, 사후 자아존중감 값이 2.92로 사후 자아존중감 값이 .42점 높아졌으며 통계적으로 유의미하였다(t= -1.1871, p<.05). 사전 정서평가 값이 3.20, 사후 정서평가 값이 5.25로 사후 정서평가 값이 2.05점 높아졌으며 통계적으로 유의미한 것으로 나타났다(t=-2.4599, p<.05). 이 결과를 토대로 원예심리치료 프로그램이 아동들의 문제를 해결하는 사회복지실천현장에서 다양한 접근방법의 하나로 활동되는 것을 제안한다.

고온기 표고 톱밥재배용 재배사 내의 환경 제어시스템과 버섯생육 온도 (Mushroom growth and cultivation environment at cultivation house of vinyl bag cultivation Shiitake mushroom on high-temperature period)

  • 표고 재배방법이 원목재배에서 톱밥재배로 전환되어가고 있는 추세이다. 하지만 재배적기인 봄가을의 버섯생산은 톱밥재배는 경쟁력이 매우 취약한 상태이다. 이를 개선하기 위하여 연중재배 방안의 개발이 절실하며, 균상재배에 대한 필요성이 높아진 상태이다. 농가 재배사의 위치별 온도변화와 시설 및 장비에 대한 조사와 재배온도별 버섯발생 및 자실체의 형태적 특성을 조사하였다. 그 결과, 재배사 내의 온도는 외부 온도가 $34^{\circ}C$일 때에 내부온도는 $30{\sim}31^{\circ}C$이었으며, 상하단의 온도 편차는 $1^{\circ}C$이내였고, 밤의 온도는 외부온도가 $22{\sim}21^{\circ}C$ 일 때에 내부는 $22{\sim}23^{\circ}C$ 수준으로 $1^{\circ}C$ 높았다. 전체적으로 보면 $24^{\circ}C$미만은 버섯 발생 및 생육이 가능한 온도대의 시간은 22:30부터 아침 7:30분까지이며, 습도는 온도와는 반대로 낮에는 55~65% 내외이나 밤에는 85~95%내외를 유지하였다. 재배사 시설들은 냉동기, 물콘, 3중막 표고재배사, 미스트 및 포그노즐 등이었으며, 재배자들은 낮은 온도를 유지하기 위하여 많은 노력을 하고 있었다. 봉지배배에서 혹서기에 재배가능한 온도를 확인하기 위하여 $14^{\circ}C$부터 $29^{\circ}C$ 까지 $3^{\circ}C$ 간격으로 항온상태에서 버섯재배사에서 재배한 결과 $23^{\circ}C$까지는 버섯이 발이 또는 생산되었으나 $26^{\circ}C$부터는 버섯생산이 불가능하였다. 버섯품질을 결정하는 버섯 색깔과 형태적 특성변화에서 명도값은 온도가 증가하면서 증가하였고, 대의 채도(a, b)값은 서서히 감소하였으며, 갓에서는 채도(b)값은 온도에 따른 큰 변화가 없었으나, 채도 (a)값은 감소하였다. 형태적 특징 중에서 갓크기는 1차 수확에서는 온도 증가에 따라 서서히 감소하였으나 2차 수확에서는 증가하였다. 대길이는 재배온도가 높아지면 대길이가 길어지며, 갓두께는 1차 수확에서는 서서히 감소하지만 2차 수확은 1차보다 빠르게 증가하였다. 위의 내용을 종합해보면 표고톱밥 재배사내에 상하단의 온도편차가 $1^{\circ}C$ 이내로 균상재배가 가능하며, 버섯 발생유도기간에 온도는 $23^{\circ}C$ 이하에서만 가능할 것이다.

Influence of the Composted Liquid Manure on the Turf Growth of Zoysiagrass (Zoysiagrass japonica) and Soil Properties

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of composted liquid manure (CLM) on soil properties and turf quality of zoysiagrass. The CLMs were produced at 5 facilities for livestock excretions treatments located in Cheongwon, Gunwi, Iksan, Nonsan, and Yeoju in Korea, respectively. Field experiments were conducted at 5 golf courses and a sod farm located near each facility for livestock excretion treatments. Chemical fertilizer (CF) with N at $12g\;m^{-2}year^{-1}$ and CLMs were applied four times, respectively. The constituents of the different CLMs were variable based on when and where the fertilizer was produced. Soil K content significantly increased when the soil was treated with CLMs. The soil treated with CF showed a higher content of total P than that treated with CLM. CF and CLMs treatments significantly increased the turf color index compared with control. Tiller density and shoot dry weight of fertilized plots were also higher than those of non-fertilized plots. However, there was no significant difference in turf color index and tiller density among plots treated by CLMs or CF. The results of this study demonstrated that CLMs could be a substitute for CF.
