  • Indium-doped zinc oxide nanocrystals (IZO NCs), capped with stearic acid (SA) of different sizes, were synthesized using a hot injection method in a noncoordinating solvent 1-octadecene (ODE). The ligand exchange process was employed to modify the surface of IZO NCs by replacing the longer-chain ligand of stearic acid with the shorter-chain ligand of butylamine (BA). It should be noted that the ligand-exchange percentage was observed to be 75%. The change of particle size, morphology, and crystal structures were obtained using a field emission scanning electron microscope (FE-SEM) and X-ray diffraction pattern results. In our study, the 5 nm and 10 nm IZO NCs capped with stearic acid (SA-IZO) were ligand-exchanged with butylamine (BA), and were then spin-coated on a thermal oxide ($SiO_2$) gate insulator to fabricate a thin film transistor (TFT) device. The films were then annealed at various temperatures: $350^{\circ}C$, $400^{\circ}C$, $500^{\circ}C$, and $600^{\circ}C$. All samples showed semiconducting behavior and exhibited n-channel TFT. Curing temperature dependent on mobility was observed. Interestingly, mobility decreases with the increasing size of NCs from 5 to 10 nm. Miller-Abrahams hopping formalism was employed to explain the hopping mechanism insight our IZO NC films. By focusing on the effect of size, different curing temperatures, electron coupling, tunneling rate, and inter-NC separation, we found that the decrease in electron mobility for larger NCs was due to smaller electronic coupling.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm to improve the precision of initial carrier-frequency offset estimation for multiband-OFDM (MB-OFDM) UWB system which is considering the quantization-noise effect. In the general OFDM system, the two adjacent and repeated preamble symbols are used for the initial carrier-frequency synchronization while the performance of the frequency-offset estimation is bounded by quantization effect generated from analog-to-digital conversion at the receiver. This paper proposes a method in which one-symbol interval between two adjacent preamble symbols for the initial frequency synchronization is extended to multiple-symbol interval between non-adjacent symbols in an extent that phase ambiguity does not occur. In this paper, we also present '6' as optimal multiple symbol interval for the MB-OFDM system with 30 preamble symbols on 3-band hopping and with 4-bit A/D conversion at the receiver. Under the channel environments for the MB-OFDM UWB system, the simulation results show that the proposed estimation algorithm can achieve the initial estimation in offset precision less than 5 ppm.

  • The coexistence among different systems is a major problem in communications. Mutual interference between different systems should be analyzed and mitigated before their deployment. The paper focuses on two aspects that have an impact on the system performance. First, the coexistence analysis, i.e. evaluating the mutual interference. Second aspect is the coexistence techniques, i.e. appropriate system modifications that guarantee the simultaneous use of the spectrum by different technologies. In particular, the coexistence problem is analyzed between ultra-wide bandwidth (UWB) and narrow bandwidth (NB) systems emphasizing the role of spectrum sensing to identify and classify the NB interferers that mostly affect the performance of UWB system. A direct sequence (DS)-time hopping (TH) code design technique is used to mitigate the identified NB interference. Due to the severe effect of Narrowband Interference on UWB communications, we propose an UWB transceiver that utilizes spectrum-sensing techniques together with mitigation techniques. The proposed transceiver improves both the UWB and NB systems performance by adaptively reducing the mutual interference. Detection and avoidance method is used where spectrum is sensed every time duration to detect the NB interferer's frequency location and power avoiding it's effect by using the appropriate mitigation technique. Two scenarios are presented to identify, classify, and mitigate NB interferers.

  • In this paper, we propose a new method of erased concatenated code with RS-convolutional code. In the method, we make use of erasure for undecoded information when we have some errors in RS decoding. For decoding with erasure, the method is processed inner decoding and outer decoding again. After the erasure decoding, if the decoding result is better than the previous one, then we use this result. If not, use the previous one. In this paper, we use concatenated RS(63,31)-convolutional(4.1/2) code. Simulation result is compared with calculation result for performance analysis. According to the result, the proposed method has better performance than the others without erasure such that 2dB when 0.5$\leq\rho\leq$1 and 4dB when $\rho\leq$0.3.

  • When IoT sensor nodes are deployed in areas where data collection is challenging, sensors must be relocated if sensing holes occur due to improper placement of sensors or energy depletion, and data collection is impossible. The sensing hole's cluster header transmits a request message for sensor relocation to an adjacent cluster header through a specific relay node. However, since a specific relay node is frequently used, a member sensor located in a specific cluster area adjacent to the sensing hole can continuously receive the movement message. In this paper, we propose a method that avoids the situation in which the sensing hole cluster header monopolizes a specific relay node and allows the cluster header to use multiple relay nodes fairly. Unlike the existing method in which the relay node immediately responds to the request of the header, the method proposed in this paper solves a ping-pong problem and a problem that the request message is concentrated on a specific relay node by applying a method of responding to the request of the header using a timer. OMNeT++ simulator was used to analyze the performance of the proposed method.

  • This paper analyzes the spectral power properties of various time hopping UWB signals and shows that the power spectral densities of the various signals could have to be determined by the PSD of the pulse used in the signal. The pulse design method by which the FCC emission mask can be utilized fully is proposed. The method combines the arbitrary derivative Gaussian pulse linearly. The coefficients of the linear combination are calculated by the LSE(Least Square Error) method. Various parameters such as the number of coefficients and the types of the basic pulses are considered when calculating the PSD and pulse shapes of the new pulses.

  • Communication technologies hold a significant place in the swarm flight of drones for surveillance, inspection of disasters and calamities, entertainment performances, and drone collaborations. A GCS(ground control station) for the control of drone swarms needs its devoted communication method to control a large number of drones at the same time. General drone controllers control drones by connecting transmitters and drones in 1:1. When such an old communication method is employed to control many drones simultaneously, problems can emerge with the control of many transmitter modules connected to a GCS and frequency interference among them. This study implemented a transmitter controller to control many drones simultaneously with a communication chip of 2.4GHz ISM band and a Cortex M4-based board. It also designed a GCS to control many transmitter controllers via a network. The hierarchical method made it possible to control many more drones. In addition, the problem with frequency interference was resolved by implementing a time- and frequency-sharing method, controlling many drones simultaneously, and adding the frequency hopping feature. If PPM and S.BUS protocol features are added to it, it will be compatible with more diverse transmitters and drones.

  • In this paper, For 4th generation wireless communication systems, we propose a method to predict FH patterns in FH-OFDMA systems. OFDM is recognized as a promising modulation technique. Multi-user allocation in OFDM system can use FH that provides the spectrum-spread techniques. If one can generate more predictable FH sequences, then performance of the system can be easily improved. Current random FH and simple adaptive FH methods, however, are not considering predicting FH sequences. In this paper we show that the sampling of the wireless faded signal is not realized as a certain probability nature. With this regard, the proposed predictive FH allocation method is designed to embed the unknown probability models. Simulation study shows that the predictive FH method is more accurately predict FH sequences than the random or simple adaptive FH methods. We will further improve this proposed method to apply QoS control and MAC function development in OFDMA based wireless physical structures, especially maritime wireless data communications.

  • A general method for the evaluation of the symbol error probability (SER) of ultra wideband (UWB) systems with various kind of modulation schemes (N-PAM, M-PPM, Bi-Orthogonal), in presence of multipath channel, multiuser and strong narrowband interference, is presented. This method is shown to be able to include all the principal multiaccess techniques proposed so far for UWB, time hopping (TH), direct sequence (DS) and optical orthogonal codes (OOC). A comparison between the performance of these multiple access and modulation techniques is given, for both ideal Rake receiver and minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalizer. It is shown that for all the analyzed multiple access schemes, a Rake receiver exhibits a high error floor in presence of narrowband interference (NBI) and that the value of the error floor is in-fluenced by the spectral characteristics of the spreading code. As expected, an MMSE receiver offers better performance, representing a promising candidate for UWB systems. When the multiuser interference is dominant, all multiple access techniques exhibit similar performance under high-load conditions. If the number of users is significantly lower than the spreading factor, then DS outperforms both TH and OOC. Finally 2PPM is shown to offer better performance than the other modulation schemes in presence of multiuser interference; increasing the spreading factor is proposed as a more effective strategy for SER reduction than the use of time diversity.

  • One of the most serious factors constraining the next generation cellular mobile consumer communication systems will be the severe co-channel interference experienced at the cell edge. Such a capacity-degrading impairment combined with the limited available spectrum resource makes it essential to develop more spectrally efficient solutions to enhance the system performance and enrich the mobile user's application services. This paper proposes a unique hybrid method of frequency hopping (FH) and subcarrier-reuse-partitioning that can maximize the system capacity by efficiently utilizing the available spectrum while at the same time reduce the co-channel interference effect. The main feature of the proposed method is that it applies an optimal combination of different frequency reuse factors (FRF) and FH-subcarrier allocation patterns into the partitioned cell regions. From the simulation results, it is shown that the proposed method can achieve the optimum number of subcarrier subsets according to the frequency-reuse distance and results in better performance than the fixed FRF methods, for a given partitioning arrangement. The results are presented in the context of both blocking probability and BER performances. It will also be shown how the proposed scheme is well suited to FH-OFDMA based cellular systems aiming at low co-channel interference performance and optimized number of subcarriers.
