  • Korea is the only country in the world where the regulation of vehicle homologation has been changed from "Type Approval" to "Self-Certification". But there are some regulations that have not been fully changed, so they became double-regulations. In this research, we find out double-regulations in Self-Certification systems focused on "Specification Notice Procedure", and suggest a proposal of amendment to avoid duplication. Through the research, we can reduce unnecessary requirements about homologation, management of vehicle and administrative procedure significantly.

  • Homologated analogues 3a and 3b of potent and selective A3 adenosine receptor ligands, IB-MECA and dimethyl-IB-MECA were synthesized from commercially available 1-O-acetyl-2,3,5-tri-O-benzoyl-${\beta}$-D-ribofuranose (4) via $Co_2(CO)_8$-catalyzed siloxymethylation as a key step. Unfortunately, homologated analogues 3a and 3b did not show significant binding affinities at three subtypes of adenosine receptors, indicating that free rotation, resulting from homologation, induced unfavorable interactions in the binding site of the receptor maybe due to the presence of many conformations.

  • New aminothiazolyl cephalosporins with alkoxyiminomethyl(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)acetyl substituents at 7-position of cephems were synthesized starting from (2-aminothiazol-4-yl)acetate via one carbon homologation followed by acylation with 7-aminoceph-3-em-4-carboxylic acid derivatives. These new aminothiazolyl cephalosporins exhibit promising in vitro activities against various strains including Gram positive bacteria.

  • α-Linked D-altropyranosidic derivatives were obtained by configurational change at C-3 of α-D-mannopyranosides as the key step in preparation of allyl and methyl α-D-glycopyranosides of 6-deoxy-D-altro-heptose. The manno-altro conversion was effected by sequential reactions of Swern oxidation and stereoselective borohydride reduction. Allyl 4,6-O-benzylidene-2-O-p-methoxybenzyl-α-D-mannopyranoside was transformed to the corresponding altropyranoside via 3-oxo-arabino-hexopyranoside. Allyl 7-O-benzyl-6-deoxy-3,4-O-isopropylidene-α-D-altro-heptopyranoside has been prepared as a glycosyl acceptor to be coupled with β-D-GlcpNAc-(1→3)-α-D-Galp glycosyl donor for the synthesis of an O-antigen repeating unit of Campylobacter jejuni serotypes O:23 and O:36. Stereoselective borohydride reduction also succeeded in yielding methyl 2,4,7-tri-O-benzyl-6-deoxy-α-D-altro-heptopyranoside from the corresponding 3-oxo-α-D-arabino-heptopyranoside. C-6 Homologation was achieved by sequential reactions of cyanide displacement of 6-sulphonates, reduction of the resulting heptopyranosidurononitrile with diisobutylaluminum hydride, hydrolysis of the imine, and further reduction with sodium borohydride.

  • This essay explores the theories of Italian poet and filmmaker Pier Paolo Pasolini on the language of cinema. In essays such as "The Cinema of Poetry" and "The Written Language of Reality" composed during the 1960s, Pasolini argues for the special status of film language as "pre-grammatical" and links it to visual signifying processes such as dreams and memories. He also views cinema as the inroads towards a general semiotics of reality since, for him, the basic unit of film language is not the shot but those objects of reality that constitute the mise-en-scene of the shot, hence cinema is posited as the written language of reality whose minimal units of articulation are the very objects of reality itself. Accused by semioticians such as Umberto Eco of semiotic ingenuousness in trying to reduce the facts of culture to nature, Pasolini responded by arguing that he was trying to do the opposite, that is to say, to culturalize nature by examining it as a language. Against the constructed naturalism of both commercial and neorealist films, Pasolini argued for the creation of a poetic cinema able to exploit its constitutional pre grammatical, oneiric and sacred relationship with the world. The essay concludes with an analysis of the film Medea in which Pasolini′s attempt to restore a sacred vision of reality merges with his concerns over the cultural genocide of traditional and emarginated peoples at the hands of neocapitalist homologation.
