Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the effects of Hominis Placenta (紫河車) on the growth of human uterine myoma cells and cell apoptosis. Methods: Human uterine leiomyoma cells were cultured and treated with Hominis Placenta extract for 48 hours. Cell proliferation and activity was analyzed by MTT assay. We analyzed the cell cycle of human uterine myoma cells treated Hominis Placenta extract by FACS. Expression of proteins related to cell apoptosis (Bax, Bcl-2), cyclin-D1 and VEGF were evaluated by Western blotting method. Results: The human uterine myoma cells treated by Hominis Placenta extract didn't proliferate below the concentration of $10mg/m{\ell}$. And there was no remarkable difference on cell cycle analysis below the concentration of $10mg/m{\ell}$. The expression of Bax was decreased and the expression of Bcl-2 was increased after the treatment of Hominis Placenta extract. But the expressions of cyclin-D1 and VEGF were increased after the treatment of Hominis Placenta extract. Conclusion: This study suggests that Hominis Placenta induce uterine myoma cell apoptosis and have effect on the myoma cell proliferation in the concentraion below $10mg/m{\ell}$.

This study was designed to investigate the effects of Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture treatment and electroacupuncture therapy on the functional recovery and histological change, protein expression in spinal cord injury(SCI) rats. Experimental groups were divided into the Group I(normal control rat), Group II(Non-treatment after spinal cord injury induction), Group III(Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture treatment after SCI induction), Group IV (Electroacupuncture therapy after SCI induction), Group V(Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture treatment and electroacupuncture therapy after SCI induction). After operation, rats were tested at modified Tarlov test at 1 to 3 days with divided into 4 groups, and motor behavior test(BBB locomotor rating scale, Grid walk test) was examined at 3, 7, 14, and 21 days. For the observation of damage change and size of the organized surface in muscle and spinal cord, histopathological studies were performed at 21 days by H & E stain, and BDNF & NT-3 protein expression studies were performed at 21 days. Acco rding to the results, Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture treatment and electroacupuncture therapy can play a role in facilitating recovery of locomotion following spinal cord injury. Specially, Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture treatment and electroacupuncture combimed therapy after SCI induction was most improvement in functional recovery, BDNF, and NT-3 protein synthesis.

Objective: Hominis Placenta is used in many cure, mainly treats a weak, chronic disease, especially senile. This research investigates the effect of the Hominis Placenta Herbal-Acupuncture Solution on Alzheimer's disease. Method: The effects of the Hominis Placenta Herbal-Acupuncture Solution on (1) $IL-1{\beta}$ protein, $TNF-{\alpha}$ protein, MDA, and CD68/CD11b (2) the behavior (3) the infarction area of the hippocampus, and brain tissue injury in Alzheimer's diseased mice induced with 13A were investigated. Results: 1. For the Hominis Placenta Herbal-Acupuncture Solution group a significant inhibitory effect on the memory deficit was shown for the mice with Alzheimer's disease induced by ${\beta}$ A in the Morris water maze experiment, which measured stop-through latency, and distance movement-through latency. 2. The Hominis Placenta Herbal-Acupuncture Solution group suppressed the over-expression of $IL-1{\beta}$ protein, $TNF-{\alpha}$ protein, MDA, and CD68/CD11b, in the mice with Alzheimer's disease induced by ${\beta}A$. 3. The Hominis Placenta Herbal Acupuncture Solution group reduced the infarction area of hippocampus, and controlled the injury of brain tissue in the mice with Alzheimer's disease induced by ${\beta}A$. 4. The Hominis Placenta Herbal-Acupuncture Solution group reduced the Tau protein, GFAP protein, and presenilin1/2 protein, beta-secretase protein, (immunohistochemistry) of hippocampus in the mice with Alzheimer's disease induced by ${\beta}A$. Conclusion: These results suggest that the Hominis Placenta Herbal-Acupuncture Solution group may be effective for the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Investigation into the clinical use of the Hominis Placenta Herbal-Acupuncture Solution for Alzheimer's disease is suggested for future research.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of Hominis Placenta Aqua-acupuncture Solution in patients of melasma. Methods: The treatment was performed twice weekly in 15 volunteer patients for 8 weeks by Hominis Placenta Aqua-acupuncture Solution. We used Melasma Area and Severity Index(MASI) to evaluate the severity of melasma. Results: MASI score was decreased from A to B and the significant clinical improvement was proved compared to before treatment. Conclusions: On the basis of this study, Hominis Placenta Aqua-acupuncture Solution is an effective treatment of melasma.

Objective It is difficult medicine pass by prostatic barrier. so prostatis is charaterized as relatively incurable illness. Neverthless in chronic prostatis, there is improvement of symptom and blood test numberical index by hominis placenta herbal-acupunture. The purpose of this report is evaluate of improvement of symptom and blood test numberical index by hominis placenta herbal-acupunture Method We observed 2 chronic proststis patient for 6 months. It is evaluate of treatment effect by NIH-chronic prostatis symptom index(CPSI) and expressed prostatic secretion(EPS) per 1month. Result The hominis placenta herbal-acupunture therapy is effective to treat chronic proststis. NIH-CPSI and EPS WBC were decreased considrably.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to report the effect of hominis placenta pharmacopuncture and chuna manual therapy in patients with frozen shoulder. Methods: Frozen shoulder was treated with hominis placenta pharmacopuncture and chuna manual therapy, and the overall shoulder pain was measured by visual analog scale (VAS), and the range of motion (ROM) of shoulder movement was evaluated by measuring passive abduction and external rotation and active hand to shoulder blade test. Results: After the treatment, overall shoulder pain was reduced, and ROM of passive abduction and external rotation was increased. Conclusions: The above results show that hominis placenta pharmacopuncture and chuna manual therapy can be used as an effective treatment for frozen shoulder.

Objectives : This study has been designed and performed to identify the effect of Hominis Placenta herbal acupuncture which is usually used in reducing sleep pattern disturbances. Methods : The study subjects studied included 48 patients who were admitted in hospital located in Pusan, and they were classified into 2 groups : 25 patients in the experimental group who injected Hominis Placenta herbal acupuncture and 23 patients in the control group who were treated by acupuncture. The both group injected on $GB_{20}$, $GB_{12}$ and $GB_{20}$ for 5 days without medicine. The sleep pattern disturbance score was measured by using 15 questions according to Korean Sleep Scale A(Oh, Jin Joo. Song, Mi. Soon. Kim, Shin Mi. 1998). Results & conclusions : The sleep pattern disturbance score of the experimental group who injected Hominis Placenta herbal acupuncture was significantly lower than that of the control group(t=7.00 p=.00). These results provided that Hominis Placenta herbal acupuncture of $GB_{20}$, $GB_{12}$ and HT, was effective for relieving sleep pattern disturbances, it is need mere sample's number and more treatment's duration.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate and report the effectiveness of Hominis Placenta pharmacopuncture treatment for chronic ankle sprain. Methods 2 patients are treated at Dept. of Korean Medicine, the Armed Forces Busan Hospital, diagnosed as thinning of anterior talofibular ligament (ATFL), suggestive of partial tear and anterior tibiofibular ligament partial tear. They are treated with Hominis Placenta pharmacopuncture. Each cases are measured and assessed by ankle hindfoot scale (AHS), visual analgue scale (VAS), cumberland ankle instability tool (CAIT) scores. Results 2 patients of chronic disease of ankle sprain have a different kind of diagnoses they have. After treatment of Hominis placenta pharmacopuncture, spontaneous pain is decreased and ankle instability, ankle functions are increased significantly. Conclusions Hominis placenta Pharmacopuncture has a effect on chronic ankle sprain.

Objective : Oculomotor nerve palsy is a disorder which causes eyeball movement trouble, diplopia, dizziness and eyelid ptosis. It is caused by aneurysm, mass, trauma, infection and so on. But sometimes we can't establish the cause. We observed 3 cases of idiopathic oculomotor nerve palsy patient treated with hominis placenta pharmacopuncture. Method & Result : We treated three idiopathic oculomotor nerve palsy patients with hominis placenta pharmacopuncture and electroacupuncture. As the result, symptoms of three patients were improved remarkably. Conclusion : In this cases, the hominis placenta pharmacopuncture is effective on idiopathic oculomotor nerve palsy. We need further study about idiopathic oculomotor nerve palsy and hominis placenta pharmacopuncture.

Coughing and sputum are symptoms of sequela of Pneumonia. Oriental medicine call it Hae suo Hae su is common sign of lung disease. Hominis Placenta is the dried placenta of a healthy women. The nature of Hominis Placenta is warm and its taste sweet-salty. It has correspondence to the meridians of lung and kindey. Hominis Placenta acupuncture therapy has effect on invigoration of vital energy nourishing blood and tonifying the essence. It can be applied to the disease as Asthma, pulmonary tuberculosis, chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, degenerative change and cerebrovascular disease. We treated two cases coughing and sputum sign Sequela of Pneumonia by Hominis Placenta Aqua-Acupuncture. The symptoms was improved and the patients satisfied.
