Seismic performances of centrifugally-formed hollow-core precast columns with multi-interlocking spirals

  • A precast composite column system has been developed in this study by utilizing multi interlocking spiral steel into a centrifugally-formed hollow-core precast (CHPC) column. The proposed hybrid column system can have enhanced performances in the composite interaction behavior between the hollowed precast column and cast-in-place (CIP) core-filled concrete, the lap splice performance of bundled bars, and the confining effect of concrete. In the experimental program, reversed cyclic loading tests were conducted on a conventional reinforced concrete (RC) column fabricated monolithically, two CHPC columns filled with CIP concrete, and two steel-reinforced concrete (SRC) columns. It was confirmed that the interlocking spirals was very effective to enhance the structural performance of the CHPC column, and all the hollow-core precast column specimens tested in this study showed good seismic performances comparable to the monolithic control specimen.

Test study of precast SRC column under combined compression and shear loading

  • A new type of precast steel reinforced concrete (PSRC) column was put forward in this paper. In order to study the static performance of PSRC column and hollow precast steel reinforced concrete (HPSRC) column subjected to combined compression and shear loading, a parametric test was carried out and effects of axial compression ratio, concrete strength and shear ratio on the mechanical behavior of composite PSRC column and HPSRC column were explored. In addition, the cracks development, load-span displacement relationship, strain distribution and shear bearing strength of column specimens were emphatically focused. Test results implied that shear failure of all specimens occurred during the test, and higher strength of cast-in-place concrete, smaller shear ratio and larger axial compression ratio could lead to greater shear resistance, but when the axial compression ratio was larger than 0.36, the shear capacity began to decrease gradually. Furthermore, truss-arch model for determining the shear strength of PSRC column and HPSRC column was proposed and the calculated results obtained from proposed method were verified to be valid.

Post-fire test of precast steel reinforced concrete stub columns under eccentric compression

  • This paper presents an experimental work on the post-fire behavior of two kinds of innovative composite stub columns under eccentric compression. The partially precast steel reinforced concrete (PPSRC) column is composed of a precast outer-part cast using steel fiber reinforced reactive powder concrete (RPC) and a cast-in-place inner-part cast using conventional concrete. Based on the PPSRC column, the hollow precast steel reinforced concrete (HPSRC) column has a hollow column core. With the aim to investigate the post-fire performance of these composite columns, six stub column specimens, including three HPSRC stub columns and three PPSRC stub columns, were exposed to the ISO834 standard fire. Then, the cooling specimens and a control specimen unexposed to fire were eccentrically loaded to explore the residual capacity. The test parameters include the section shape, concrete strength of inner-part, eccentricity ratio and heating time. The test results indicated that the precast RPC shell could effectively confine the steel shape and longitudinal reinforcements after fire, and the PPSRC stub columns experienced lower core temperature in fire and exhibited higher post-fire residual strength as compared with the HPSRC stub columns due to the insulating effect of core concrete. The residual capacity increased with the increasing of inner concrete strength and with the decreasing of heating time and load eccentricity. Based on the test results, a FEA model was established to simulate the temperature field of test specimens, and the predicted results agreed well with the test results.

중공비율에 따른 중공 프리캐스트 철근콘크리트 기둥의 압축거동 (Compressive Behavior of Precast Concrete Column with Hollow Corresponding to Hollow Ratio)

  • 최근 일련의 연구로부터, 중공이 있는 프리캐스트 콘크리트(hollewed precast concrete, HPC) 기둥를 사용할 경우, 일반적인 PC기둥에 비하여 접합부 콘크리트를 충실하게 채울수 있으며 이에 따라, 접합부의 고정도는 일체식 철근콘크리트(RC)와 같이 향상될 수 있음이 확인되었다. 그러나 충전콘크리트로 중공부가 채워진 후, HPC부재와 충전콘크리트의 강도가 서로 다르고 이 두 부재 사이에는 접촉면이 있음에 따라 합성구조와 같은 거동을 보이게 되며 이는 합성된 기둥의 구조적 거동과 강도에 영향을 미치게 된다. 이 논문에서는 HPC 기둥에서 중공의 크기와 중공부분 콘크리트의 채움 유무에 따른 기둥의 압축강도 시험을 실시하였다. 중공의 비율은 35, 50 그리고 59%이며 실험체의 양단을 단순지지 형태로서 지지한 뒤 중심압축력을 기둥의 상단에 작용시켰다. 또한 압축에 대한 HPC 기둥의 파괴거동을 묘사하기 위하여 유한요소 해석을 실시하였다. 실험 결과, 중공내부가 충전콘크리트로 채워진 기둥에서, PC와 충전콘크리트의 강도차이와 상관없이 중공률은 기둥의 초기강성에 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 기둥의 압축강도는 중공률에 반비례하는 것으로 나타났다. 충전콘크리트가 채워지지 않은 HPC기둥의 구조성능은 중공의 직경에 밀접하게 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 특히, HPC의 두께가 지나치게 얇은 경우에는 국부적인 파괴가 전체 파괴를 지배하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 영향을 고려하여 HPC기둥의 압축내력을 산정할 수 있는 식을 제시하였다. 유한요소해석에서는, HPC와 충전콘크리트 사이의 접촉면을 고려할 경우, 해석 결과가 실험 결과와 좋은 대응을 보이는 것으로 나타났다.

Cyclic loading test for concrete-filled hollow PC column produced using various inner molds

  • In this study, cyclic loading tests were conducted to assess the seismic performance of cast-in-place (CIP) concrete-filled hollow core precast concrete columns (HPCC) constructed using steel ducts and rubber tubes. The outer shells of HPCC, with a hollow ratio of 47%, were fabricated using steel ducts and rubber tubes, respectively. Two combinations of shear studs & long threaded bars or cross-deformed bars & V-ties were employed to ensure the structural integrity of the old concrete (outer shell) and new CIP concrete. Up to a drift ratio of 3.8%, the hysteresis loop, yielding stiffness, dissipated energy, and equivalent damping ratio of the HPCC specimens were largely comparable to those of the solid columns. Besides the similarities in cyclic load-displacement responses, the strain history of the longitudinal bars and the transverse confinement of the three specimens also exhibited similar patterns. The measured maximum moment exceeded the predicted moment according to ACI 318 by more than 1.03 times. However, the load reduction of the HPCC specimen after reaching peak strength was marginally greater than that of the solid specimen. The energy dissipation and equivalent damping ratios of the HPCC specimens were 20% and 25% lower than those of the solid specimen, respectively. Taking into account the overall results, the structural behavior of HPCC specimens fabricated using steel ducts and rubber tubes is deemed comparable to that of solid columns. Furthermore, it was confirmed that the two combinations for securing structural integrity functioned as expected, and that rubber air-tubes can be effectively used to create well-shaped hollow sections.

  • Most of studies on PC method aim at the structural analysis and development of PC members, and studies on the construction management aspect are insufficient. Therefore, this study tries to investigate 'hallow PC column composite method(HPC composite method)' from the viewpoint of construction management and analyze the construction cost of the composite method. On the assumption that each comparative method was applied to the zone, the difference in construction cost between the two methods was analyzed. As a result, HPC composite method increased the initial investment cost because of its factor technology, but reduced transport cost, lifting cost, and installation cost through lightweight columns. This study analyzed only the difference in construction cost of HPC composite method so that it has the limitation in evaluating its economy. Therefore, to evaluate the economy of HPC composite method, it is considered to research more the construction cost of HPC composite method.

An experimental study of the behaviour of double sided welded plate connections in precast concrete frames

  • Multi-storey precast concrete skeletal structures are assembled from individual prefabricated components which are erected on-site using various types of connections. In the current design of these structures, beam-to-column connections are assumed to be pin jointed. Welded plate beam to-column connections have been used in the precast concrete industry for many years. They have many advantages over other jointing methods in component production, quality control, transportation and assembly. However, there is at present limited information concerning their detailed structural behaviour under bending and shear loadings. The experimental work has involved the determination of moment-rotation relationships for semi-rigid precast concrete connections in full scale connection tests. The study reported in this paper was undertaken to clarify the behaviour of such connections under symmetrical vertical loadings. A series of full-scale tests was performed on sample column for which the column geometry and weld arrangements conformed with successful commercial practice. Proprietary hollow core slabs were tied to the beams by tensile reinforcing bars, which also provide the in-plane continuity across the connections. The strength of the connections in the double sided tests was at least 0.84 times the predicted moment of resistance of the composite beam and slab. The secant stiffness of the connections ranged from 0.7 to 3.9 times the flexural stiffness of the attached beam. When the connections were tested without the floor slabs and tie steel, the reduced strength and stiffness were approximately a third and half respectively. This remarkable contribution of the floor strength and stiffness to the flexural capacity of the joint is currently neglected in the design process for precast concrete frames. In general, the double sided connections were found to be more suited to a semi-rigid design approach than the single sided ones. The behaviour of double sided welded plate connection test results are presented in this paper. The behaviour of single sided welded plate connection test results is the subject of another paper.

The contribution of the floor strength and stiffness to the flexural capacity of the joint is currently neglected in the design process for precast concrete frames. The flexural strength of the connections in the double-sided tests was at least 0.93 times the predicted moment of resistance of the composite beam and slab. The secant stiffness of the connections ranged from 0.94 to 1.94 times the flexural stiffness of the attached beam. In general, the double-sided connections were found to be more suited to a semi-rigid design approach than the single sided ones. The behaviour of double sided bolted billet connection test results are presented in this paper. The behaviour of single sided bolted billet connection test results is the subject of another paper.

  • 본 연구에서는 콘크리트충전 각형강관에 구조용 피복콘크리트를 적용한 합성기둥에 대하여 연구하였다. 1/3~1/2 축소모델의 편심 압축실험체 4개와 중심압축실험체 1개를 제작하여 압축실험을 수행하였다. 실험 변수는 피복콘크리트의 강섬유 첨가여부, 편심거리, 기둥 길이, 그리고 횡보강 상세이다. 일부 실험체에서 최대강도 도달 후 피복콘크리트의 탈락으로 인한 강도저하가 발생하였으나 모든 실험체는 현행 설계기준(KBC 2009)에 의한 휨 압축 강도 및 공칭 압축강도를 초과하는 하중재하능력을 보였다.

반복하중을 받는 하이브리드 프리캐스트 보-기둥 접합부의 성능평가 (Structural Capacity Evaluation of Hybrid Precast Concrete Beam-Column Connections Subjected to Cyclic Loading)

  • 이 연구에서는 시공성과 경제성이 향상되고 중진 지역에서 사용할 수 있는 새로운 프리캐스트 콘크리트 보-기둥 접합부 상세를 복합구조로 개발하고 실험을 통하여 이를 검증하였다. 이 상세는 기둥 속에 매립된 각형강관과 보U형 단부를 갖는 보 단부에 매립된 플레이트를 볼트로 결합시킬 수 있는 구조로 되어있다. 하이브리드 스틸-콘크리트 접합합부에 앞서 콘크리트가 조기에 파괴되는 것을 막기 위하여 접합부 부분에 ECC(engineered cementitious composite)를 사용하였다. 개발된 접합부 상세에 대한 성능을 검증하기 위하여 보-기둥 접합부 실험체를 계획하여 이에 대한 내진성능 실험을 실시하였다. 내부 접합부에 있어서는 접합부 횡보강근 유무와 현장타성 범위를 변수로 3개의 실험체를 제작하였다. 실험은 기둥에 일정 축력을 가한 상태에서 PC기둥 단부에 액츄에이터를 설치하여 변위제어로써 반복가력 하여 실시하였다. 실험에서 얻은 자료를 접합부 내력, 강성, 에너지 소산능력 등에 대하여 분석하였으며, 그 결과 이 연구에서 제시한 새로운 보-기둥 접합부 상세는 강재와 콘크리트 그리고 ECC 사이에서의 다른 부착 특성 때문에 구조거동에서 차이점이 관찰되었으며, 기준 실험체를 제외한 두 실험체의 경우 ECC 및 철골연결재에 의해 소성힌지를 유도할 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 프리캐스트 접합부는 높은 일체성과 모멘트 저항 능력을 보이며 중진 지역에서 사용가능함을 보였다.
