The theory of representation, which has been an important topic of epistemology, has long history of study. But it has diverse meaning according to the fields of argument. In this paper the author set the meaning of mathematical representation as the interrelation of internal and external representations. With this concept, the following items were studied. 1. Survey on the concepts of mathematical representations. 2. Investigation of pedagogical significance of the mathematical representations, taking into account the characteristics of school mathematics. 3. Recommendation of principles for teaching representation to cope with the problems that are related with cause of disliking each domain of the secondary school mathematics. This study is expected to enable the development of teaching methods to help students strengthening their ability to comprehend mathematical sentences.

A 3-year-old Jeju native black sow with sudden death was requested to the Jeju Self-Governing Provincial Veterinary Research Institute for diagnosis in July 2009. Because the pig died suddenly, we could not find any clinical signs. Gross lesions such as pulmonary edema, redness of heart, liver, kidney and lymph nodes were observed at necropsy. Histopathologically, there were severe eosinophilic meningoencephalitis, atrophy, degeneration and necrosis of laminar neurons, and neovascularization in cerebral cortex. Based on histopathological findings and history taking about temporal suspension of water supply, this case was diagnosed as salt poisoning of a Jeju native sow. In our best knowledge, this is the first report for salt poisoning of sow in Korea, especially in Jeju native pig.

The causes of complicated chronic insomnia are very various and interact with vicious circle. Patient with this insomnia has generally a strong fear and frustration about failing to control of sleep and a deep mistrust toward doctor. To solve this complicated problems detailed history taking and sleep questionnaires are needed with objective polysomnography. Through these procedures, doctor should clarify causes of insomnia and explain them to patient in details and kindly. This process would be very helpful to restore the mistrustful relationship between patient and doctor and reduce patient's vague fear for insomnia. In treatment of complicated chronic insomnia, it is most important for patient to understand his problems and participate in the treatment schedule actively with assurance. Also doctor should encourage patient persistently not to be drop out. Most important factor for prognosis is patient's personality. Causes of complicated chronic insomnia are like these, overdose of hypnotics and sedatives, daily drinking alcohol with hypnotics, insomnia associated depression, delayed sleep phase syndrome, sleep state misperception, marked fear for insomnia, hyperarousal at bed, insomnia associated periodic leg movement and sleep apnea, chronic hypnotic insomnia, and immature personality. And possible treatments of these insomnias were discussed.

Bilateral vocal cord palsy (BVCP) present a challenging condition which result from various etiologies including iatrogenic recurrent laryngeal nerve injury, progressive neurological disorder, intubation, trauma, tumor and idiopathic cause. Careful history taking, laryngoscopic evaluation, laryngeal EMG, and imaging studies are helpful for providing a precise diagnosis and planning appropriate treatment. BVCP causes airway restriction and not vocal dysfunction. In patients with BVFP, treatment is directed at maximizing the airway, while attempting to limit the negative effects of treatment on vocal function. A variety of surgical procedures are available for mangement of BVCP. The most conservative, limited procedure should be selected initially, and then further surgery and more extensive surgery can be tailored to the patient's airway and voice needs. This review will address the etiology, diagnosis, and managements of BVCP.

Pituitary-dependent hyperadrenocorticism (PDH) was diagnosed with history taking, physical examination, complete blood count, serum chemistry profiles, abdominal radiology, ultrasonography and adrenal function tests in 3 dogs. Their clinical signs were polyuria, polydipsia, polyphagia, bilateral symmetrical truncal alopecia and secondary infection in skin or urinary tract. Especially one dog showed severe clinical signs such as calcinosis cutis and delayed wound healing. These 3 dogs were diagnosed as PDH, and treated with selegiline 1-2 mg/kg /ay sid PO. 2 dogs with clinical signs of PDH were disappeared and improved, but 1 dog with severe illness progressed gradually despite of selegiline and mitotane application, and eventually died.

Combustion of liquid-fuelled combustion in a high-temperature vitiated-air stream was studied. The mathematical formulation comprise the application of Eulerian conservation equation to the gas phase and Lagrangian equation of droplet motion. The latter is coupled with a droplet-tracking technique (PSI-CELL Model) which regard the droplet phase as a source of mass, momentum, and energy to the gaseous phase. Reaction rate is determined by taking into account the Arrhenius reaction rate based on a single-step reaction mechanism. The calculated profiles show somewhat uncertainess at the upstream, but bases data for designing the combustor followed by 2-phase flow were obtained.

Purpose : The goal of the present study is to provide the basic information to medical control which is the most important improving factor of pre-hospital medical treatment. Method : A total of 749 records of direct medical control were collected from 119 EMTs in emergency medical information center of Daejeon, Chungcheongnam-do and Chungcheongbuk-do from March 1, 2010 to February 28, 2011. Results : The 119 EMTs should record the level of qualification of EMT and general patient history taking precisely when they receive direct medical controls. The doctors should take medical controls within the task range of qualification of EMTs. Conclusion : It is necessary to establish the guideline of medical direction and protocol of prehospital emergency care. The quality improvement of pre-hospital emergency services will be possible by the guideline and protocol.

We present a new survey of nearby galaxies to obtain deep wide-field images of 200 nearby bright galaxies in the southern hemisphere using Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet). We are taking very deep and wide-field images, spending 4.5 hours for the B and R filters for each object. Using this dataset, we will look for diffuse, low-surface brightness structures including outer disks, truncated disks, tidal features and stellar streams, and faint companions. The multicolor data will enable us to estimate the incidence and star formation history of those features. We present an outline of the data reduction pipeline, and preliminary results from the commissioning data.

In this study, a database composed by 46 cases of tunnel collapses has been built up. Based on the database, comprehensive data analysis is carried out, providing us a number of the technical lessons, which can be considered in future design and construction to minimize possibility of tunnel collapse disaster. For making a better understanding, the technical lessons are given in two divisions: mountain tunnel and urban tunnel. Tunnel collapses taking place in the former tunnel are generally due to bad discontinuity condition of jointed rock mass. Otherwise, urban tunnel has weak condition generally on ground water and weathering of ground. Most of technical comments given in this paper are made based on the cases of tunnel collapses only used in this study, so that the comments seems to be hard to be available to all the tunnelling cases. However, the comment should be valuable technical lessons for tunnel engineers to consider in tunnel design or construction.

The purpose of this study was to propose up-cycling fashion designs, based on guidelines derived from up-cycling fashion brand products and their required elements of the design. The study thus categorized required elements into environment, significance, economy, function, design, and material, then extracted a set of design guidelines. The guidelines for waste resource-based up-cycling fashion design include the followings: First, authenticity, taking mutual environmental relations into account. Second, rarity of products beyond the domain of standardized ready-made goods thanks to manual operation. Third, storytelling, reflecting the consumer history. Fourth, sustainability to signify the circulation of matters. Fifth, experimental characteristic to fulfill creative innovation. Sixth, changeability through interactions with wearers. The investigator decided design concepts based on them and created up-cycling design works with waste plastic bags, shirts, stockings, neckties, outdoor mats, and backpacks in a variety of formative expressive techniques.
