The general efforts of applied research and development can be divided into product development, process development, process design, process equipment design, and operation The fed batch culture as one effort of theprocess development in fermentation industry has been practiced since the early times of human history. One particular industrial application with long history is in the cultivation of the baker's yeast where the glucose effect at relatively high glucose concentration is the general rule.

There were four academic journals on oriental medicine, published in the era of early Japanese imperialism. Research into these journals has derived the conclusion that the academic trend at the time were, firstly, the interaction between western and eastern medicine, secondly, researches on "Nai Kyung", "Sang Han Ron" and finally, promotion of development of oriental medicine by looking at the advantages of western medicine.

The purpose of this research is to survey minpo(the nations pojagi), especially supo(the embroidered pojagi), of the Yi Chosun of Korea during the nineteenth century. This study explores the history and background of minpo, its characteristics, including forms, designs, materials, and how they related to women's daily life during the Yi Chosun in social and cultural aspects. There were minpos for use in everyday life as well as for special occasions such as weddings, funerals and religions rites, including Buddhist and other services. The research undertaken here is done by classifying minpos according to composition, design, pattern and motif.

Recently Korean statistician have more chance to work with other researcher in other countries at international level. Especially the 53rd Scientist meeting of he International Statistical Institute(ISI) will be held in Seoul, Rep. of Korea at Aug 22-29, 2001. The fields of Statistics in Korea have been affected a lot from American Statistical Society. In this research communication, I would like to introduce a short history of he Italian statistical society and their major research topic and outputs. The contents will help us to understand the Italian statistician, and it can be a conner-stone to the future relationship between Korean statistician and Italian statistician.

Through the research on the "Bi Ye Baek Yo Bang", which is a part of "Eui Bang Yoo Chui", "Bi Ye Baek Yo Bang" is discovered to be a Korean medical book of the late Korean and early Chosun era, not Chinese as the established theory so far. By further studies following this kind of job, the spirit of our independ medicine should be brought back.

This study makes SoGanEum(疎肝飮), which is included in YoYak(要略) [JangBuPyoBonHeoSil MaekYakChongBang (臟腑標本虛實脈藥摠方)], its object. It elucidates the origin of this prescription from Chinese medical texts, and examines the characteristics shown in the process of reception through Joseon's exemplary medical texts.

To quantitatively analyze the effects of burning, we conducted a vegetation survey in the grasslands in Kirigamine, central Japan. We classified each species into stages of succession based on the life-history traits of the species and defined the score of the species in each stand based on the classification. We weighted the scores with a v-value, the product of coverage and height in the quadrat, and summed them to calculate the index of dynamic status. With these indices, we were able to quantitatively compare the stands in the study area and discern minute differences between the stands with different lengths of restoration periods since the disturbance of burning. These indices correlated with the v-value of trees, suggesting that the disturbance of burning seemed to affect the trees in the stand. We then calculated the growth of the tree species Pinus densiflora to evaluate its contribution to the index of dynamic status.

The first part of this thesis gives some brief explanation of the theory and history of imaginary elements in analytic geometry in the 19th century. The second part of this thesis discusses the theory of imaginary elements of synthetic geometry in the first half of the 19th century. Then the next part mentions the theory of imaginary elements of geometry in the second half of that same century. Particularly Christian von Staudt's and Felix Klein's theories are handled in this part. Von Staudt, who has completed the system of the synthetic projective geometry, used ‘involution’ in order to introduce a new concept ‘imaginary elements’- imaginary points, imaginary lines and imaginary plane-in synthetic geometry. Klein applied von Staudt's theory as he convey the result of the research in algebraic geometry in a picture. Von Staudt's and Klein's research may be regarded as the top of the effort to investigate possible relationship between real and imaginary structures.

In the study of Buddhist architecture before the Goryeo Dynasty, the analysis of sectarian viewpoints is one of the effective means. In the study of Buddhist architecture before the Goryeo Dynasty, analyzing from the point of view of a Buddhism sect is one of the effective means. Until now, compared to the importance of the Beopsang school before the Goryeo period in the field of research on the history of Buddhist architecture, research on its temples was the least compared to those of other denominations. In this study, as one of the studies on Beopsang school temples, Geumsansa(金山寺), Beopjusa(法住寺), and Donghwasa(桐華寺), which were built as the Jinpyo's Beopsang school temple in the late 8th century and maintained until the Goryeo Dynasty, were targeted. And I tried a rudimentary analysis on the building composition of those temples from the viewpoint of the beliefs and teachings of Beopsang school. This study is meaningful in that it is the first attempted study in the field of architectural history on the Buddhist temple of the Beopsang school, which led non-Zen sects of Buddhism along with the Hwaeom school until the Goryeo Dynasty.

Based on the recent laboratory experiments (Kim et al. 2004), comparisons of caisson sliding distance are made between the computations and experiments. The time history model of wave force, which is proposed by Tanimoto et al. (1996), is modified in the standing wave part of horizontal and uplift wave forces because of the overestimation of the time history model. The comparison between experimental and computational sliding distance has showed that the caisson tilting increases the resistant force to the horizontal sliding. Therefore, a titling resistant force, which is caused by caisson tilting, is introduced into computation of sliding distance.
