The study of history, culture and living environment of river system area, a place that is known to as a cradle of civilization, will be able to undertake a role in the research and comparison with other cultural regions, reaching beyond the regional units until now and moreover investigation the international and intercontinental history of civilization. In this context, this research focuses on the establishment of a cultural information system for the public use and the insight to the regional identity and materialization of culture based on Korea's peculiar history and culture. Thus, the information system for Youngsan River area aims to create a form of electronic map that contains various cultural and historical information on river system area, which is a integrated information system based on Web GIS that is open to public use through the internet. The above mentioned system is a combined product from the basic research data on various fields of study, including archaeology, architecture, arts, ecological environment, history, folk customs, literature, and food, while it aims for not only its utilization in interdisciplinary studies but also creating new value as a public database. As a result, the expected effects due to the establishment of historical and cultural information system based on Web GIS of Youngsan River area are as follows: First, the study can contribute to verify a road map of the study on Youngsan River area. Second, it will take a role to stimulate the academical research on the dynamic structure and characteristics of the Youngsan River area. Third, we can also expect an effect of gaining a full foothold in providing an electronic academic source specialized for the study of the historical and cultural map.

  • Cultural property is a valuable asset that connects the past with the present, and cultural heritage is now included in the international agenda of disaster risk reduction. Accordingly, the importance of building resilience of cultural assets has been on the rise, and the necessity of spatial information has been emphasized in building resilience. Therefore, in this study, A methodology for studying the resilience contained in cultural assets through linkage with historical map and time series spatial information is proposed and the proposed methodology was applied to cultural assets located in Gongju area. Georeferencing was performed on time-series images of aerial images and topographical map, and the changes in cultural assets and surrounding areas were found. The width of the river has changed due to the installation of the Keum River Estuary Dam and the dammed pool for irrigation. Nevertheless, the main cultural assets and monuments are located in the high-altitude area and thus have been well preserved. In this study, cultural property resilience was extracted using only map data and in future, it is necessary to conduct research to extract cultural property resilience through analysis of historical records such as geography.

  • Modernism in architecture is a very complex and contradictory phenomena. So much so that it has been defined in various ways throughout the history, depending on one's position in the cultural and historical circumstances. It is thus necessary to map out the various concepts of modernism and their relationships in order to have a more comprehensive understanding of modern architecture. This paper attempts to define the various positions as functionalism, formalism and artistic avant-gardism, and to trace their history from the early twentieth century to the present. The change of the concept of modernism from functionalism to artistic avant-gardism seems a logical process in the history of western modem culture. The tendency of contemporary architecture to be more abstract and self referential artistic practice reflects the fragmentation of modern culture and the separation of art and technology. The validity of this position, of course, depends on how one evaluates the role of modern art in the situation of modern culture. It could be viewed either negatively or positively. However, this position is problematic in that it disregards the fundamental differences between architecture and other arts and distanced architecture farther from its material base. Given this historical perspective on the concept of modernism, modernism in Korea should not viewed simply identical to the western modernism, nor should western modernism be imported uncritically. The characteristics of her modernization and their differences from the west should be considered, along with the different status and role of architecture in korean modern society.

  • The study aims to examine the development of the South Korean music industry over time in order to capture the evolution process of the industry from its initial stages to its current state as one of the world's leading music markets. Based on the above consideration, a systematic literature review was conducted in order to provide an overview of the achievements of the South Korean music industry with the help of PRISMA method. The reason for doing this is to ensure that the process of selecting, filtering and collecting literature from different sources is not only efficient and time-saving but also rigid and coherent. This paper will explore the various elements that have defined the industry, including culture, technology, marketing and government policies and regulations (Jang & Song, 2017). Furthermore, it will inquire the effects of the K-pop cultural export on other industries, whether it be tourism, fashion, consumer goods, and more, thereby illustrating its vast significance. In more detail, this study aims to give an adequate idea about the historical accomplishments of the South Korean music industry in the global music map, identify factors that facilitated the enhancement of the industry and examine the significance of the findings and their applications for the industry's progression and development in the future.

  • The purpose of this study is to review foreign scenic inventory map for the systematic management of natural scenic resources. Several foreign cases were surveyed and analyzed to apply the scenery inventory map in domestic, such as Visual Resource Management(VRM) from United States Bureau of Land Management, Scenery Management System(SMS) from USDA Forest Service and Visual Landscape Inventory(VLI) from British Columbia Ministry of Forest's, that were already established scenery inventory maps. The results are as follows. First, the characteristic of Korean landscape is quite a different from those of north american's, which is much smaller and more complex in topography and land use. So, it would be difficult to apply foreign system directly and we need more researches to our own system. The multi-stepped landscape unit system is highly recommended. Second, scenic quality could be estimated by the pre-built database, such as land forms, vegetation, hydrology and land uses. Historical and cultural attributes should be complemented. Third, existing scenic integrity could be grasped by scenic damage, landscape alteration caused by human activities and land exfoliation. Also, subjective evaluation method should be supplemented by objective criteria through further detailed studies. Finally, about landscape view conditions, landscape control points should be surveyed and established in advance, and viewing distance, viewing frequency, amount of observers and public interests should be considered.

  • Cultural remains distribution maps have been published in 172 volumes of books, and the information about the remains in South Korea is also disclosed via the Internet to those who are interested in conducting archeological examinations or to those who are planning the national land use for various purposes. The purpose of this study is to statistically review the locational characteristics of the sites appearing in cultural sites map, and to determine the locational characteristics of these remains or sites. The location of sites was statistically analyzed based on the point density function of geographic information system of 87,859 sites found in cultural site maps. The results of this study show that the sites found in South Korea are mainly distributed around historical cities and the distributions are closely related to their proximity to rivers. Given that the period of time and type is very important to archeological studies, the results of this study indicate that detailed period of time and type may be necessary for further analysis. This study has highlighted that the research into the spatial analysis and interpretation of cultural heritage sites can contribute to the field of archeological studies.
