  • To investigate the historical record of Alexandrium spp. in southern coastal areas of Korea, two sediment cores were collected from Gamak Bay and Yeoja Bay. Germination experiments revealed that the ellipsoidal Alexandrium cysts isolated from Gamak Bay and Yeoja Bay are morphologically identical to a toxic dinoflagellate A. tamarense. The ellipsoidal Alexandrium cysts in Yeoja Bay appeared from 30 to 32 cm depth upwards (ca. 1980s), and their concentration increased around 10 to 12 cm depth (mid-1990s). Similarly, cyst concentration in Gamak Bay also increased from 40 to 44 cm depth (ca. 1990s). These results coincide with the reports of Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning caused by A. tamarense in 1980s and 1990s along the southeast coast of Korea.

  • This study is performed to find out the eruptive events of the historical period recorded in literature, which have been recognized and regarded as ones from Mt. Baekdusan, and to make volcanological interpretations of the eruptive events. Since the Millennium eruption, more than 31 eruptive events have been discovered, most of which are Plinian eruptions with volcanic ash that dispersed into the regions in the vicinity of the volcano. The 1903 record includes the event of the phreatomagmatic or vulcanian eruption that occurred within the Cheonji caldera lake. Based on the eruption records of the historical period and the 2002 precursor unrest to volcanic eruptions, Mt. Baekdusan has been evaluated and regarded as an active volcano that has the potential to erupt in the future.

  • Convergence science research is activated, and digital humanities research is also encouraged in humanities. Therefore, this study attempted to propose a experimental study that applies Text mining and Entitymetrics methods to historical materials. Annals of King Seonjo, revised Annals of King Seonjo, Miscellaneous Record of the War and Writings on Imjin War were used, also network analysis and DMR topic models were used to explore topic changes and common entities in historical sources. Through the results, it was possible to propose the availability of quantitative analysis for text data, presenting a timing change of a specific topic, and an undiscovered relationship between person entities.

  • The historical drama played on TV in 2003, Daejanggeum is originally based on the short historical record of lady doctor of the palace from the [Jungjong record] of Josun. The drama mixed fiction and historic record well together draw enormous interest and became a novel, musical and animation for children. Also the location of shooting drama became a theme park to attract travelers and the name 'Daejanggeum' was used for products to create great additional value. Most of all, the drama then was exported to overseas and became the representing drama of Korea. Therefore, drama is the representing piece that proved the success of historic data with its application as various modern cultural contents. The analysis of success reason of showed the creation of new modern woman character, fresh selection of the item that suits well in the time of desiring wellbeing, the strong drama scenario with different story development compared to previous historic drama. Also, it used 'one source multi use' method prior to the broadcasting and prepared production of various cultural contents. This success of Daejanggeum means a lot from the point of 'modern acceptance of tradition' to tradition researchers.

  • Christian records are greatly diversified as they are scattered in various institutions inside and outside of the church, which include records of Christian organizations, individuals, and the media. Given this, their management methods also vary. Because of this diversification of methods, it is difficult for people to access and make use of these records. This study aims to develop rules for the archival description of Christian historical records to provide a foundation that will allow users to have an integrated system where they can access all Christian records from different institutions including the church. For this purpose, the rules for archival description of the National Archives of Korea and the Korea Democracy Foundation, and those of the Presbyterian Church in the United States were compared, and from this comparison, features of each institution were identified. Using the features based on ISAD(G) (General International Standard Archival Description) and Christian historical records, the rules for the archival description of Christian historical records were developed.

  • This paper suggests a revision method for historical fault data using Proportional Aging Reduction(PAR) to consider maintenance effect in time-varying failure rate. In order to product time-varying failure rate, the historical fault data are necessary. However, the maintenance record could be left out in historical data by spot operator's mistake. In this case, the failure rate is produced less than the average failure rate for increasing equipments' life-time by maintenance effect. Hence, it is necessary for new time-varying failure rate to extract maintenance effect from the existing fault data. In this paper, the revision method to reduce equipments' life-time, adversely using PAR among three techniques to consider maintenance effect.

  • Objectives : Considering the indigenousness of Korean medicine, the historical record was first introduced in 1946 as follows; a Chinese person, Ji-chong (知聰), brought 164 volumes of medical books to Japan via Goguryeo (高句麗) in A.D. 562. Since this event happened, Korean Oriental Medicine has been derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine because ancient Korean Medicine originated and was developed in China. The purpose of this study was to investigate the existence and role of Ji-chong in the history of medical exchanges between ancient Korea and Japan. Methods : We studied Ji-chong through ancient and modern historical literatures such as Nihon Shoki (日本書紀), the record of $Shinsen-sh{\bar{o}}jiroku$ (新撰姓氏錄), Korean Medical History (韓國醫學史), Japanese Medical History (日本醫學史), Samguk Sagi (三國史記), etc. Results : We found indications of the existence of Ji-chong and the import of Chinese medical literature to the ancient Korean peninsula by examining domestic and foreign historical literature. Especially, he was closely related to historical assumptions about the Japanese conquest of Goguryeo in A.D. 562, although without objective historical evidence and described only in modern Japanese historical records and Korean Medical History. However, substantial medical exchange toward Japan was accomplished by Korean medicine of either Goguryeo, Baekje (百濟), or Silla (新羅) dynasty until the late A.D. 6 century. Conclusions : Based on the above investigation, the idea that Ji-chong carried medical literature via Goguryeo in A.D. 562 needs to be reconsidered and the role of Ji-chong as recorded in a variety of literature and databases should be amended., Korean Oriental Medicine has been derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine because ancient Korean Medicine originated and was developed in China. • This Study is to propose the method about statistical factor from the old oriental medical record in Korea. This Study reviews the statistical analysis recently published in the old oriental medical books which are in the Research Report by the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine at 2007. The results reveal a disease factors, prescription factors.medicines factors, population factors and historical factors by the statistics. The results show that the old oriental medical record for a information system need the interpreting with a information analysts, a statistics analysts and an oriental medical doctors.

  • The thesis of this analytical study includes 1) the generation of annual and monthly discharge regarding single hydrological variable at single site, 2)comparsion with the historical records and the generation, and 3) changing the monthly generatied discharge into annual. The conclusion of this will be used for the future plan for water resources development. Annual discharges at waegwan are characterized by log-normal distirbution and persistence-absent. Also, the random number generator causes the errors in the generation of annual discharge. The serial correlation coefficients of the generated annual discharge have less value than that of historical records, while the correlation coefficient and slope in January have(+) value and opposite to historical record. To change the monthly generated discharge into annual is not proper.

  • In the past decade, the importance and necessity of some studies on reliability evaluation of power system comes from the recent blackout events occurred in the world. Such power system reliability evaluation depends especially on historical outage data. This paper presents reliability model for evaluation in KEPCO systems that is suited to it's propose, and is to show how failure rates and unavailability(Forced Outage Rate) of transmission system components can be determined from the historical outage data of KEPCO systems. The data for these components were made available by KEPCO and KEPRI. A record spanning about 10 years of the historical data was used.
