Wogonin(5,7-dihydroxy-8-methoxyflavone), an anti-inflammatory plant flavonoid, was previously demonstrated to modulate the several parameters of animal skin inflammation. This compound inhibited edematic response as well as proinflammatory gene expression. In this investigation, the histopathological changes of the lesions from different types of experimental skin inflammation were compared and the potential therapeutic effect of topically applied wogonin was evaluated. From the results, it was found that multiple TPA treatment drastically increased ear edema accompanied with epidermal hyperplasia and inflammatory cell infiltration, while phenol treatment provoked only edematic response in the dermal area. Wogonin somewhat differently inhibited these animal models of skin inflammation.
In order to know morphological changes on the female genital organs by Ivermectin(IVM) administration, the histopathological observation was carried out in the organs of rat and mouse treated with the overdose of IVM. In the microscopical findings of the uterus, there were many mitotic figures, epithelial hyperplasia and papillary foldings in the endometrial surface. The increased prevalance of uterine glands, uterine epithelia and glands hyperplasia were markedly presented on diverse patterns adenoma-like structure and single nodular or multiple polyp-like adenoma. In ovary, primary and mature follicles were decreased in number, and hypoplasia of ovarian follicles, atretic follicles, follicular cysts and ovarian atropy were observed. It was considered that IVM administration resulted in follicular hypoplasia and atropy of ovary, and hyperplasia of uterine gland and endometrial surface epithelium might be transformed to neoplasia of glandular structures.
A case of necrotizing meningoencephalitis was described in a 3-year-old female pug dog. Significant histopathological changes were confined to the brain. Histopathologically, brain lesion of the pug dog was characterized by (1) severe lymphocyte, plasma cell and macrophage infiltration in the meninges and gray and white matter of the cerebral hemisphere, (2) perivascular mononuclear cell cuffing and (3) focal polioencephalomalacia in the gray matter of cerebrum. Replicate sections of the brain and lung were negative for fungal infection, canine distemper and toxoplasmosis on PAS stain and immunohistochemistry, respectively. Based on clinical signs, histopathological and immunohistochemical studies, this case was diagnosed as necrotizing meningoencephalitis in pug dog that had not been preriously described in Korea.
The authors have studied histopathologically, based with symptoms, on 51 aged woman who treated in infirmary hospital of dental college of Seoul National University. The results are as follows: 1. Symptoms of patient were swelling of lower left mandible, gingival enlargement, ulceration and severe bleeding. 2. We observed characteristic features on the blood test such as decreased leukocytes with severe decrease of granular leuckocytes and sudden increase of lymphocytes. 3. On the histopathological studies, we observed severe destruction of gingival tissue with few granular leukocytic infiltration, but displaced with massive lymphochtic infiltration.
The subacute oral toxicity study of DWP-311 was carried out in Sprague-Dawley rats of both sexes. We daily examined clinical signs, body weights, hematological and biochemical parameters, and histopathological examinations for 30 days after administration of DWP-311 with different dose levels (0, 0.04, 0.2, and 1.0 g/kg). There were no clinical signs and pathological changes compared with control group except slight decreases in spontaneous motor activities and locomotions at high dose group of DWP-311. Body weights were not significantly changed in animals treated with DWP-311, In histopathological examinations, there were 2 cases of pneumonia in control group for one male and one female, but it was not directly related to DWP-311. These results indicate that subacute oral toxicities of DWP-311 were low and the no-observed a dverse effect level (NOAEL) was considered to be 1.0 g/kg in rats.

The outbreak of viral encephalomyelitis (Talfan disease) in suckling piglets was diagnosed pathologically for the first time in Korea. The clinical signs of affected sucklings were very high morbidity without death, and fever ($39^{\circ}C$ or higher) with incoordination of the rear limbs and paresis, while no specific gross lesions were observed at autopsy. Histopathological changes were confined to the nervous system, and were of the nature of a nonsuppurative and nondemyelinating encephalomyelitis which is usual for the viral encephalitis. It was characterized by perivascular cuffing, meningitis, neuronal degeneration, neuronophagia and glial nodules in the brain and spinal cord.
Glufosinate-ammonium, a component of the herbicide Basta, is one of the most extensively used pesticides worldwide. In this study, we assessed subchronic and chronic toxicities of Basta and its histopathological effects on the marine medaka Oryzias dancena. Marine medaka were exposed to 0, 2, 4, or 8 mg/L of Basta for 28 or 42 days. The lethal concentration ($LC_{50}$) of Basta for 96 h is 8.76 mg/L. Histological changes in the gills and liver were evaluated with histopathological indices, allowing quantification of the damage to fish exposed to Basta. Blood congestion, lamellar fusion, and epithelial lifting were observed in the gills, and hydropic degeneration, fibrosis, lipid degeneration, leukocyte infiltration, and necrosis were found in the liver. These responses could be useful indicators of Basta toxicity in this species.
A patient (Pointer+Viszula mixed breed, 4 months old, male), with chief historic sign of acute vomiting, hemorrhagic diarrhea, anorexia and dyspnea during 4 days was admitted to College of Veterinary Medicine, Kyungpook National University. Necropsy findings were revealed ulcer and hemorrhage contained hemorrhagic diarrhea in gastrointestinal tract, severe emphysema and hemorrhage in the lung and kidney and cardiac hypertropy. Histopathological changes showed emphysema, hyperemia and hemorrhage in the lung, severe hyperemia, hemorrhage, hepatic vacuolation and cellular necrosis in the liver, hyperemia, hemorrhage, necrosis of tubular epithelium in the kidney, hemorrhage in cardiac muscle and hyperemia, necrosis and sloughing of epithelium in the intestine. Histopathological diagnosis was made as paraquat poisoning.
The changes in histopathology of various organs and growth inhibition of the chick embryos incubated with radioactive sulfur ($^{35}S$) were experimentally studied. The various doses of $^{35}S$ were injected into the yolk sac at different intervals and the weight changes of the embryos were evaluated to determine the growth inhibition rates. The embryos sacrified on various incubation days were used for the study of histopathological changes in organs such as the bone, liver, kidney, gonad, and eye. Following were the results: 1) The weight changes of the $^{35}S$ treated groups were as follows: i. Embryos treated on the 5 th incubation day: No weight changes were noted on the 8th incubation day, however, the growth inhibition rate of 32.1% was noted in the group treated with $50{\mu}C$ and of 38.2% in the group treated with $150{\mu}C$ on the 12th incubation day. The rates were 9.1 and 12.1% on the 15th incubation day, and 6.5 and 10.6% on the 18th incubation day respectively. ii. Embryos treated on the 8th incubation day: The growth inhibition rates on the 12th, 15th and 18th incubation days in the groups treated with $50{\mu}C$ were 20.9, 25.9 and 18.8% and in those treated with $150{\mu}C$ were 20.0, 14.9 and 16.9% respectively. iii. Embryos treated on the 12th incubation day: The growth inhibition rates on the 15th and 18th in the groups treated with $50{\mu}C$ were 13.6 and 21.1% and in those treated with $150{\mu}C$ were 26.7 and 6.5% and in those treated with $250{\mu}C$ were 10.6 and 12.6% respectively. iv. Embryos treated on the 15th incubation day: The growth inhibition rates on the 18th in the groups treated with $50{\mu}C$ were 6.5% and in those treated with $150{\mu}C$ were 10.1% and in those treated with $250{\mu}C$ were 8.5% respectively. In summary, the longer the incubation days, the less the growth inhibition rates. II) The histopathological changes in the various organs were as follows: i. Bone: Hyperplasia and edematous changes of the bone cavity, irregular distribution of immature granular cells and increased number of the myeloblast, megakaryocyte and reticuloendothelial cells were noted. ii. Liver: The embryos treated with $150{\mu}C\;of\;^{35}S$ on the 8th incubation day showed necrosis and nucleolysis of the liver cell and abnormal enlargement of sinusoid on the 12th incubation day. The longer the incubation days, the more severe the changes such as the pyknotic artophy of the liver cells and heterochromatism. The embryos treated on the 5th incubation day with 50 and $150{\mu}C\;of\;^{35}S$ showed little changes, but sight enlargement and accumulation of serous fluid in the sinusoid on the 8th incubation day. iii. Kidney: No particular changes except atrophic changes of epithelium were noted in early stage, however, the infiltration of the granular cell and monocyte into the cortex and pyknotic changes of vascular glomeruli were noted in later stage. These changes were not closely related to the doses of $^{35}S$ given. iv. Gonad: The degenerative changes such as destruction of the immature germ cells, hyperplasia and vacuolization of the stroma were noted in testis and ovary. v. Eye: A slight distortion of the cornea and sclera was noted. The hypertrophy of inner layer and blood cell infiltration into the vascular layer of the choroid membrane were noted in embryo groups on the 12, 15 and 18th incubation days.
Clonorchiasis is an important parasitic disease of humans in Korea. The present study intended to compare sonographic findings with histopathological changes in experimental clonorchiasis. Eighteen New Zealand white rabbits were infected with metacercariae of Cknorchis sinensis, and examined 4, 10, and 22 weeks post-infection (PI). Four infected rabbits were treated with praziquantel 10 weeks PI and were examined 12 weeks after treatment. Sonography revealed mild to severe dilatation of the intrahepatic ducts (IHDD) and slightly increased periductal echoes in 12 out of 14 rabbits at 4 weeks PI, and all of the animals after 10 and 22 weeks PI and 12 weeks after treatment. The histopathological lesions were duct dilatation, mucosal hyperplasia, and periductal fibrosis, which progressed from 4 weeks to 22 weeks PI and even in treated rabbits. The dilated intrahepatic ducts over 1 mm diameter were detected by sonography. The present results indicate that sonographic findings are well correlated with histopathological lesions in rabbit clonorchiasis except for early phase of light burden of infection. The sonography has a limitation in discriminating residual sequelae of the ducts after praziquantel treatment.
