  • In the flow analysis around a bluffbody such as road vehicles, drag reduction has been of the primary concern mainly due to the effect on fuel economy. To reduce the drag, which is mostly due to the pressure difference caused by the flow separation, the location of the separation and eddy sizes are controlled. However, less attention has been given to the effect of the lift. The effect of lift may cause the driving stability problem of the vehicle at high speed white heavy downward effect of lift together with the vehicle weight may require more power to drive the vehicle forward. It is considered worthwhile to pursue the optimal design of the low drag tail shape of the MIRA model while taking the lift effect into account, even though it is considered as a reference. To this end, a commercial multi-objective optimization code, FRONTIER, Is used together with the CFD code, STAR-CD. It is hoped that the results will provide more insight into the flow field around the bluffbody as transportation means.

  • The Train Networks has a goal which requires the fast and correct data communication for distributable equipment systems. For this, in 1999, some train makers had established the standard TCN(IEC61375-1) for the inter-operating between equipment systems. Recently, TCN is being used in EU, China and the requirement to use it is growing up by many other countries more and more. The TCN was adopted at Korea High-speed Train with first in Korea, and Rotem Company finished the design of TCMS with TCN network for Istanbul EMU and KTX-2 Train and tests them. TCN(Train Communication Networks) defines the set of communication vehicle buses and train buses. The MVB(Multifunction Vehicle Bus) defines the data communication interface of equipment located in a vehicle and the WTB(Wire Train Bus) defines the data communication interface between vehicles. This paper examines whether the result of on-board test is satisfied with the IEC61375-1(International Electrotechnical Commission 61375-1) which is the international standard of TCN and introduce the results.

자동차용 $CO_2$ 에어컨 시스템 열교환기 성능 특성에 관한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Studies on the Performance Characteristics of Heat Exchangers of $CO_2$ Air Conditioning System for Vehicle)

  • The performance characteristics of heat exchangers which consist of a gas cooler, an evaporator and an internal heat exchanger have been investigated at various operating conditions of $CO_2$ air conditioning system by experiments. The heat exchangers were designed for use in the vehicle $CO_2$ air conditioning system, when considering the characteristics of heat transfer and high pressure as $CO_2$ refrigerant. This paper studied the performance of heat exchangers at various compressor speeds and expansion valve openings, and quantified the heat transfer rates and pressure drops. Heat transfer rates at the gas cooler and the evaporator were 6.9 kW and 5.2 kW, respectively, when the compressor speed was 4000 rpm and refrigerant vapor quality at the evaporator outlet was 0.98. Therefore, this paper carried out that the heat exchangers were analyzed to achieve superior performance for the vehicle transcritical $CO_2$ cycle.

  • 초공동현상을 이용한 고속 수중 운동체와 함께 이를 가능하게 하는 기술로써 해수흡입 램젯 추진에 대한 연구가 여러 나라에서 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 해수 흡입 램젯 엔진을 추진기관으로 하는 수중 운동체의 개념 설계를 진행하였다. 가동 환경을 확인하여 임무 작동 조건을 설정하였으며, 해당 조건 내에서 초공동현상 이론과 유체역학적 지식을 통해 운동체에 작용하는 항력을 예측하였다. 이로부터 필요 추력을 산출하여 추진기관의 대략적인 사이징과 부분별 성능해석을 수행하였으며, 설계한 추진기관의 추력 및 비추력 성능을 확인하였다.

Optimization of Suspension Under the Condition of Curved Track in Railway Vehicle

  • This paper presents the optimization of suspension characteristics under the condition of curved track railway vehicles. Reducing lateral acceleration on curved track is an issue for high-speed railway vehicles. In terms of curved track running environments, reducing the lateral vibration of railway vehicles is critical to safety and curving performance. The properties of lateral damping and stiffness of both primary and secondary suspension show effect on wheel-set, bogie and car-body. Analysis for reducing the lateral vibration of rail vehicles with respect to the characteristics of both primary and secondary suspension has been developed using ADAMS/Rail. Response Surface Method has been chosen for the purpose of verifying correlation effects among design parameters. Also, this paper suggests the method for designing optimal suspension of railway vehicles on curved track. The optimization result indicates decrement of lateral acceleration on wheel-set by 3% and bogie by 1% on curved track. Finally, this paper comes to the conclusion that suspension system of railway vehicle (KTX I) is properly designed when regarding lateral vibration of railway vehicle on diverse curved track condition.

Dynamic Behavior of Liquid Propellant in Reusable Rocket Vehicle

  • For the prediction of sloshing in the propellant tank of rocket vehicle utilized in RVT (reusable rocket vehicle testing) conducted by ISAS/JAXA, the flow field in the propellant tank during the ballistic flight was experimentally reproduced with the sub-scale model of it. The lateral acceleration as large as about 0.8 G was provided with a mechanical exciter and the deformation of liquid surface in the vessel was visualized with a high-speed camera. The several con-figurations of damping devices were installed and tested in the vessel, which should keep the ullage gas away from the outlet port. It was consequently suggested that the combination of a baffle plate and a perforated cylinder could be effective against the gas suction before the re-ignition of the engine. The sloshing phenomena were also simulated with the CFD code, called CIP-LSM. The numerical results showed good agreement with the corresponding data obtained in the experiment.

  • Unmanned ground vehicle for facility protection mostly uses model of territory for autonomous navigation. However, modeling of territory using several sensors is highly time consuming and sometimes inefficient for road application. Therefore, an estimation of drivable path based on features of road is required for high speed autonomous navigation on road. In this paper, an estimation method of drivable path using camera and 2D laser rangefinder is proposed. First, a vanishing point is estimated based on image data from CCD camera. Second, a road width is estimated based on range data from 2D laser rangefinder. Finally, the drivable path is estimated by fusing the vanishing point and the road width. The proposed method is tested on both well-structured road and unpaved road like cross-country situation.

  • A vehicle's differential gear is a device designed to allow the vehicle's outer wheels to turn faster than the inner wheels when turning on a curve. The differential gear case is the main component of the differential gear system, which is composed of ring gear, pinion gear and side gear, and is fastened by pinion shaft pins. The differential gear case rotates when the vehicle is running, so balancing calibration is very important. In this study, a balancing machine that can diagnose and correct the differential gear case and mass imbalance of various rotating bodies was designed. The differential gear case was rotated at high speed to accurately diagnose the location and value of the unbalanced mass, and it was designed to be balanced and corrected by removing the unbalanced mass by drilling. After calibration, it was confirmed that the unbalanced value of all the measured samples was reduced to less than 180g.mm, and the unbalance reduction ratio was improved to 60~70%.

  • In recent years, the maturity of the technology for a high speed underwater vehicle using supercavitation increase, it is entering the stage of applied research for practical use. In this study, hydrodynamic performance of the supercavitating object was evaluated by using a Viscous-Potential based Boundary Element Method(VP-BEM). 27 models with different shape parameters such as body diameter, length and fore-body shape were considered. The process of the supercavity development of each model was simulated, and drag generated according to operating conditions such as changes in water depth was analyzed.

실차 비교 및 검증을 통한 복합재 브레이크의 개발 효용성 분석에 관한 연구 (A Study on Analysis of Development Effectiveness of Composite Brake through Real Car Comparison and Verification)

  • Composite material is recently very important material for eco-friendly vehicles because of its excellent mechanical property and lightweight effect. So, many research results have been recently published for developing the composite material to apply vehicles. In this paper, new brake system is presented using composite material to response this situation. And advantages in terms of performance compared to competitive company will be discussed in depth to verify superiorities of the new composite brake. To do so, composite brake systems which have the same size as the competitive company to the same vehicle is applied. And superiorities through a variety of test results are presented. First, normal braking performances are compared with competitive company through braking effect, heat capacity and friction test, Second, circuit driving and high speed fade test are also verified with competitive company to confirm harsh braking performances for the new composite brake system. Finally, the effects of applying the composite brake to automobile industry like electric car are analyzed.
