  • This paper investigates the adaptive control of a fuzzy logic based speed and flux controller for a vector controlled induction motor drive. A model reference adaptive scheme is proposed in which the adaptation mechanism is executed by fuzzy logic based on the error and change of error measured between the motor speed and output of a reference model. The control performance of the adaptive fuzzy controller is evaluated by simulation for various operating conditions. The validity of the proposed adaptive fuzzy controller is confirmed by performance results for induction motor drive system

  • Recently, the demand of motor for industrial, household machinery is increasing. As Switching devices and control technology are progressing, so the use of BLDC Motor is increasing. But 3-Phase BLDC Motor generally used has pulsating torque and speed variation in commutation, so the range of its application is limited to high speed operation. Especially, to solve these problems, it is necessary to increase phase of Motor, so study of Poly-Phase BLDC Motor is progressing. However, when hysteresis current controller is used, switching frequency is highly increasing. In this paper, 7-Phase BLDC Motor drive system is designed. Also MSTC(Minimum Switching Time Controller) is proposed and with simulation and experiment, there validities are verified.

  • A cylindrical permanent magnet inside the four-phase permanent magnet (PM) stepping motor is employed as the rotor. The stator has four teeth around, which its coils are wound. The mode of excitation can be classified into 3 modes: single-phase excitation, two-phase excitation and ministep excitation. The ministep drive is a method to subdivide one step into several small steps by means of electronics. The paper presents the programmable ministep technique drive. This technique decodes the results obtained from the counter to locate the data in Read Only Memory (ROM). The Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) is transformed to binary file and saved to the ROM. The experiment is performed with the four-phase PM stepping motor and drives from a two-phase programmable sinusoidal ministep signal, instead of square wave. The results show that the performances of the proposed programmable ministep technique drive have high efficiency, smooth step motion, and high speed response. Moreover, the resolution of sinusoidal ministep signal can be controlled by the input frequency (f command).

  • This paper presents a cycloconverter with an LC resonant circuit for an induction motor drive. The cycloconverter can keep input displacement factor at 1.0 by independently controlling real and reactive power under any load conditions. Furthermore it can keep power factor at about 1.0 since input and output current waveforms are nearly sinusoidal. Since it uses high frequency resonant circuit for commutation source, it can produce an output voltage of hundreds of hertz. Since it is also possible to make a system of high capacity using the cycloconverter, it is appropriate to drive motors with high speed and high capacity as well as general purpose motors, In this paper, we describe the operating principles of the cycloconverter and power control algorithms, and analyze its waveforms and present its characteristics. Expermental results are shown for the volts/hertz control of the induction motor and the validity of the proposed model is verified.

  • The precise speed and position control technique for Brushless DC Motor demands accurate position and speed feedback information. Generally, resolver or absolute encoders are used as speed and positiion sensor. But they increase cost and more problem happens at low speed than high speed specially. Therefore, in this paper, optimal speed observer is proposed for decreasing size and cost of whole system. And also, we consider the error problem about the system modeling and measurement at low speed range as well as high speed. The overall system consists of two parts, a drive and a speed observer. We make use of Least square curve fitting algorithm as speed observer and can overcome low resolution by proposed observer. Also, because of using the signal of hall sensor, robust control is possible in low speed as well as high speed for the change of the parameters of the system and disturbance. To construct observer using the signal of hall sensor, we design the pulse multiplier circuit and the software of microprocessor, AT89CC2051. Finally, the performance of the proposed observer is exemplified by some simulations and experiments.

  • This paper presents a new approach to the automatic control of the turn-off angle used to excite the Switched Reluctance Motor (SRM) employed in electric vehicles (EV). The controller selects the turn-off angle that supports and improves the performance of the motor drive system. This control scheme consisting of classical current control and speed control depends on a lookup table to take the best result of the motor. The turn-on angle of the main switches of the inverter is fixed at $0^{\circ}C$ and the turn-off angle is variable depending on the reference speed. The motor, inverter and control system are modeled in Simulink to demonstrate the operation of the system.

  • The feed system of the machine tools is limited by the mechanical transmission elements. However, thanks to the advanced modern technology, those machines are able to equip with linear motors. In this paper, the types and application aspects of linear motor are discussed and a synchronous type of the linear motors has been applied to X-Y table for machining center. The performance shows an outstanding result in terms of the accuracy, speed and stiffness. Machine tool system with linear motors is expected to be more productive machines using linear motor in the near next years.

  • In this paper, we adapted BLDC motor to PV water pumping systems to maintain high efficiency in the wide speed area. Also, to design confidence we adapted the vector control that drive the maximum torque at each speed limit. We designed optimal gain value of current, speed and pressure PI controller. Inverter gate pulse used Space Vector PWM to reduce torque pulsation of BLDC motor. According to, it was improve general matters of high water storage tank method by direct water supply pumping method.

An Inner-spherical Continuously Variable Transmission for Electric Bicycles

  • A new continuously variable transmission (CVT) for electric bicycles was developed using a traction drive mechanism with inner and outer spherical rotors. This electric bicycle CVT permits three propulsion modes: human-power only, motor-power only, or a combination of motor power and human power. In addition, the electric bicycle CVT has high power efficiency, large torque capacity, improved drivability, and good packageability. A prototype was manufactured based on a conceptual design, a performance analysis, and a detailed design. This prototype has a rated power of 250 W and input motor speed of 20 rad/s for an overall speed ratio in the range 0.3-1.2. A bench test was conducted to measure the power transmission performance of the prototype.

  • The propulsion Motor system has changed from the DC motor system to the induction motor system. Although the induction motor system has almost reached the stage of maturity, this system also need changed to the IPMSM system for direct drive without reduction gear. Thus, the IPMSM(Interior buried Permanent magnet synchronous Motor) has been adopted to meet the driving specification. In this paper, loss characteristic analysis of IPMSM has been performed using adopted F.E.M.
