Visual Precise Measurement of Pile Rebound and Penetration Movement Using a High-Speed Line-Scan Camera

  • When a construction company builds a high structure. many piles should be driven into the ground by a hammer whose weight is 7,000 kg in order to make the ground under the structure safe and strong. So. it is essential to determine whether a pile is penetrated into the ground enough to support the weight of the structure since ground characteristics at different locations are different each other. This paper proposes a visual measurement system for pile rebound and penetration movement including vibration using a high-speed line-scan camera and a specially designed mark to recognize two-dimensional motion parameters of the mark using only a line-scan camera. A mark stacking white and black right-angled triangles is used for the measurement, and movement information for vertical distance, horizontal distance and rotational angle is determined simultaneously. Especially- by adopting a line-scan CCD camera whose line rate is 20 ㎑. the measurement performance of dynamic characteristics of the pile at impact instant is improved dramatically.

  • This paper proposes a printing quality inspection system of film-type envelopment. Since the printing system is running at very high-speed (140m/min.) and the line error has very narrow width, we have to choose one-dimensional high-speed and high-resolution line scan camera. The vibration of the printing machine and the illumination environment make the inspection problem more harder. To obtain reliable inspection results, many software image processing techniques are applied and many parameters are tuned. The performance of the proposed system is proved by many simulations and long time real-plant experiments.

Edge-Based Tracking of an LED Traffic Light for a Road-to-Vehicle Visible Light Communication System

  • We propose a visible light road-to-vehicle communication system at intersection as one of ITS technique. In this system, the communication between vehicle and a LED traffic light is approached using LED traffic light as a transmitter, and on-vehicle high-speed camera as a receiver. The LEDs in the transmitter are emitted in 500Hz and those emitting LEDs are captured by a high-speed camera for making communication. Here, the luminance value of each LED in the transmitter should be found for consecutive frames to achieve effective communication. For this purpose, first the transmitter should be identified, then it should be tracked for consecutive frames while the vehicle is moving, by processing the images from the high-speed camera. In our previous work, the transmitter was identified by getting the subtraction of two consecutive frames. In this paper, we mainly introduce an algorithm to track the identified transmitter in consecutive frames. Experimental results using appropriate images showed the effectiveness of the proposal.

Measurement of Fiber Board Poisson's Ratio using High-Speed Digital Camera

  • Purpose: The finite element method (FEM) is advantageous because it can save time and cost by reducing the number of samples and experiments in the effort to identify design factors. In computational problem-solving it is necessary that the exact material properties are input for achieving a reliable analysis. However, in the case of fiber boards, it is difficult to measure their cross-directional material properties because of their small thickness. In previous research studies, the Poisson's ratio was measured by analyzing ultrasonic wave velocities. Recently, the Poisson's ratio was measured using a high-speed digital camera. In this study, we measured the transverse strain of a fiber board and calculated its Poisson's ratio using a high-speed digital camera in order to apply these estimates to a FEM analysis of a fiber board, a corrugated board, and a corrugated box. Methods: Three different fiber board samples were used in a uniaxial tensile test. The longitudinal strain was measured using the Universal Testing Machine. The transverse strain was measured using an image processing method. To calculate the transverse strain, we acquired images of the fiber board before the test onset and before the fracture occurred. Acquired images were processed using the image processing program MATLAB. After the images were converted from color to binary, we calculated the width of the fiber board. Results: The calculated Poisson's ratio ranged between 0.2968-0.4425 (Machine direction, MD) and 0.1619-0.1751 (Cross machine direction, CD). Conclusions: This study demonstrates that measurement of the transverse properties of a fiber board is possible using image processing methods. Correspondingly, these processing methods could be used to measure material properties that are difficult to measure using conventional measuring methodologies that employ strain gauge extensometers.

초고속 카메라와 삼차원 표면 측정기를 이용한 삭마 재료의 정량적 표면 침식 분석 (Quantitative Analysis for Surface Recession of Ablative Materials Using High-speed Camera and 3D Profilometer)

  • 본 논문에서는 초고속 카메라와 삼차원 표면 측정기를 이용하여 삭마 재료의 표면 침식량을 정량적으로 분석하였다. 대기권 재진입 환경을 모사하기 위해 0.4 MW 아크 가열 풍동을 이용하여 흑연과 탄소/페놀릭 복합재료의 삭마 실험을 수행하였다. 초고속 카메라를 이용하여 실시간 삭마 실험 영상을 획득하고, 이를 분석하여 침식량과 침식률을 산출하였다. 또한, 삼차원 표면 측정기를 이용하여 삭마 전후 시편의 표면 형상을 측정하였으며, 시편의 높이 차이로부터 침식량 분포를 정밀하게 산출하였다. 이를 통해 표면 침식 현상을 종합 분석하는데 있어서 두 측정 결과를 상호 보완하는 것이 유효함을 확인하였다.

  • 방탄소재로서 사파이어 재료가 대두되고 있지만 고속 충돌관련 동적거동 및 파괴특성에 관한 연구는 부족한 실정이다. 탄자와 취성세라믹재료간의 상호작용을 연구하기 위해서는 고화질의 초고속 연속영상이 필수적이다. 본 연구에서는 고속충돌 및 관통 현상을 순차적으로 촬영할 수 있는 장치를 개발하였다. 이 장치는 속도측정장치, 마이크로프로세서를 사용한 카메라 구동장치 그리고 다수의 CCD카메라로 이루어져있다. 선형배열센서를 사용한 속도측정장치는 직경 1-2 mm 탄자의 마하 3 속도를 측정할 수 있다. 발사된 탄자가 속도측정장치를 통과하면 속도와 시간이 측정되고 탄자가 비행하는 동안 카메라 구동장치가 정확한 충돌시간을 계산하여 다수의 카메라에 순차적으로 트리거 신호를 보내서 충돌 전후의 형상을 순차적으로 촬영한다. 정확한 충돌시간 예측을 못하면 고해상도의 사진촬영이 거의 불가능하다. 본 연구에서 개발된 정밀 촬영장치를 사용하여 고해상도의 영상을 확보할 수 있었다.

Analysis of Combustion and Flame Propagation Characteristics of LPG and Gasoline Fuels by Laser Deflection Method

  • This work is to investigate the combustion characteristics and flame propagation of the LPG (liquified petroleum gas) and gasoline fuel. In order to characterize the combustion processes of the fuels, the flame propagation and combustion characteristics were investigated by using a constant volume combustion chamber The flame propagation of both LPG and gasoline fuels was investigated by the laser deflection method and the high-speed Schlieren photography. The result of laser deflection method show that the error of measured flame propagation speed by laser method is less than 5% compared with the result of high-speed camera. The flame propagation speed of the fuel is increased with the decrease of initial pressure and the increase of initial temperature in the constant volume chamber. The results also show that the equivalence ratio has a grate effect on the flame speed, combustion pressure and the combustion duration of the fuel-air mixture.

볼록거울을 장착한 야간 사격훈련용 예광탄 탄도 모니터링 단일 카메라 시스템 (A Single Camera System Equipped Convex Mirror for Monitoring Tracer Bullet to Teach Night Firing Exercises)

  • 일반적으로 보통의 카메라는 초당 24 프레임을 갖는다. 이런 카메라를 가지고는 초당 1000m에 가까운 스피드를 가지는 총알을 촬영하기 어렵다. 하지만 볼록거울을 사용하면 스테레오그래픽 투영방법에 의해 긴 길이를 짧은 화면에 담을 수 있다. 대부분 고속 물체를 촬영하기 위해서는 초당 프레임이 보통 카메라의 몇 배에 달하는 카메라를 사용하거나 전자장비를 사용하여 여러 개의 카메라를 매우 작은 시간차를 두고 촬영하는 방법을 사용한다. 본 논문에서는 보통의 카메라와 볼록거울을 사용하여 야간 사격훈련용 예광탄 탄도 모니터링 시스템을 제안하며 250m 사격장에서 표적에 명중한지 아니한지 발견 가능함을 보였다.

  • A dynamic model of air circuit breaker with a spring-actuated linkage is derived, and its validation for analysis and design, particularly appropriateness for an analysis of high-speed motion behavior are checked through experiments. The dynamic model is developed through the modeling process based on ADAMS and Pro/Engineer. The simulation results of derived dynamic models for the rapid closing and opening operations are compared with actual responses using a high-speed camera and investigated to validate their usefulness.

BGA(Ball Grid Array) 높이 데이타의 고속 측정 (High Speed Measurement of Ball Height Data for Ball Grid Arrays)

  • Recently, Ball Grid Arrays(BGAs) are getting used more frequently for a package type. The connectors on a BGA consist of a large number of small solder balls in a grid shape on its bottom side. However, since balls of BGAs mounted on PCBs are not visible, inspection before mounting them is indispensable. High speed non-contact 3D measurement technologies are necessary far real-time measurement of ball height, the most important inspection item. In this paper, an accurate 3D data acquisition system for BGAs is proposed that can acquire 3D profile at high speed using a 3D smart camera and laser slit ray projection. Some clipping and morphological filtering operations are employed to remove spiky error data, which occur due to reflections from some ball area to camera direction.
