The purpose of this study is to identify the supply status and planning trend of North Korean housing through analysis on the North Korean architecture specialized media data. The flat composition is changing and the living room is becoming the center of the houses. Also, in the urban areas, the standard apartment type is four apartments in a row and the plan form is getting diversified into circle type, Y type, and irregular type. On the other hand, in the rural areas, two houses in a row and single house are typical and the change in planning scale and space structure are not substantial. Since the 2000s, design changes have been made to emphasize the third dimensional structure of buildings such as the elliptical houses and L-shaped houses. Furthermore, 8~10 households are located on one floor which leads to the tendency of the building enlargement. In terms of house size, a square concept was introduced to replace the initial 2~3 room concept and the basic module of the room planning the 3 room house based on $3m{\times}3m$. However, there seems to be no standard house size, and the house size may differ depending on the social classandregion. In the early 1980s, when there was focus on the apartment complex construction, the high-rise apartment buildings of 30~40 floors was planned. However, during the Pyongyang redevelopment project, apartments of more or less than 10 floors were built and row-houses of more or less than 4 floors were built. In terms of the complex scale, a lot of small complexes of around 300 households are emerging after 2010. The construction projects are mainly limited to specific regions such as Pyongyang and Samjiyeon, and also limited to specific classes such as the workers and soldiers initially and the scientists lately. In addition, living boundary composition and ancillary facilities for sufficient green area ratio securement and the people of North Korea are maintained consistently. In recent years, the specialized floor planning such as solar house and the house for the disabled people, framework houses for redevelopment business, and multi-storied house construction technology are also emerging.

The purpose of this study is to construct an evaluation criteria based on the relative importance and various combinations of each evaluation index and then to appraise urban biotope in terms of nature experience and recreation. After the standard of evaluation had been developed through the review of existing literature, the relative importance of the evaluation index through expert survey was determined, and the evaluation model to assess biotope value was established. The results of this study are as follows; 1) We have constructed the seventeen evaluation criteria through literature reviews, and have provided relative importance to each evaluation index of the natural in biotope, the diversity of landscape patterns, the appearance-existence of water space, the special landscape elements, and the access based on the results of expert survey. and then we have constructed an evaluation system using the relative importance criteria. 2) To evaluate urban biotope using the evaluation system constructed, we selected 14 sites. The final evaluation results of each site is as follows; The first grade areas are the water space with semi-natural style in front of Gangchon Woobang apartments, the forest zone near Page Temple at Mt. Palgong, the edge area of Jisan and Gosan and the tendril yard against Anshim middle school. The second grade areas are Hyomyung elementary school, the farm land behind the third Anshim Jugong apartment, Ehyun put and the swampy land in front of the Kangchon and Anshim construction site. The third grade areas are Seohan and Hwasung high-rise apartments at Beummul-Dong, the Korea Manpower Agency in the Sungseo industrial zone, and the adjacent area of St. Tongil. The only fourth grade area is the commercial zone near Taegu Department Store. 3) It is highly useful to evaluate urban biotope using the evaluation criteria constructed for this research, the evaluation criteria we developed may be difficult to encompass all expert opinion and the period of space-formation is difficult to estimate urban biotopes. In the future, it is necessary to gather the basic data suitable to estimate biotope and it is necessary to develop detailed evaluation criteria applicable to estimate every biotope that has specific property.
Nowdays the apartment is a main type of modernized residential buildings. According to the improvement of construction techniques and functions of windows and doors, recent apartments are enhanced air tightness of windows, doors and building envelopes. As Infiltration is decreased and natural ventilation is reduced, energy could be saved in winter. However, indoor air quality is bad. The air Infiltration of a building could be enlarged by physical actions, such as building designs, constructions and reduction of air tightness which is caused by aging. This research analyzes and measures with KNS-4000P (Sapporo air tightness measurement) the air tightness of the high rise apartments which is recently constructed and not occupied yet. With depressurization method, the KNS-4000 installed on the window and the indoor air-leakage was measured. At that time, Air come out from the edge of the windows and doors because of the pressure differences between indoor and outdoor. We measure the amount of the air as effective air leakage areas. This method of depressurization takes less time to measure than other methods and is less affected from other conditions. We measured infiltration of total 56 household, 29 households S apartment (total floor area : $64.42m^2$) in Balan and 29 households D apartment(total floor area : $78.21m^2$) in Chonan. As a result of the field measurements at October 2003, normalized leakage area of D apartment in Cheonan was $2.05cm^2/m^2{\sim}3.49cm^2/m^2$ (average: $2.77cm^2/m^2$) and normalized leakage area of S apartment in Balan is $1.23cm^2/m^2{\sim}1.68cm^2/m^2$ (average: $1.5cm^2/m^2$).
Townhouse have been developed as alternative housing types for combining the characteristics of detached houses and high-rise apartments, Much research on townhouse have investigated physical environments of townhouse and provide a number of planning factors to be considered. However, these factors do not reflect the residents' experiences of the environments sufficiently. The aim of this research is to investigate residents' satisfactions in townhouse as an exploratory study which can be a basis for the improvement of residential environments in townhouse. First of all, we selected a target townhouse and conducted a field study to examine the existing state of the townhouse. Then a customized questionnaire was developed and distributed to residents in the townhouse for investigating their satisfactions on the residential environment. The questions included are divided into four categories; site environment, unit space, community area and housing management. Through the statistic analyses of the residents' responses, the residents' satisfactions of the residential environment were identified. Especially the residents' satisfaction on the community area, which revitalizes neighborhood relationships, is very high. They were also satisfied with the conditions of the sub-categories, 'a distinctive exterior' 'a private planning', 'outdoors' and 'landscapes', in townhouse. In conclusion, we suggested considerations for the improvement of the residential environments and the quality of life in townhouse.

Korea is a nation with poor natural resources. There is a greats need to save resources that are running out in fast face. The purpose of this thesis is to bind the means to save rosources in housing site, especially in highrise apartment. The reason why the high-rise apartments are chosen as a case is 7hat the high-rise is becoming the major form of dwelling in most urban areas. As a tool of saving the ecological way is chosen because ecological energy is free, clean and unlimited. The resources to be saved are divided into two categories, namely energy and non - energy resources as water, land and food. The contents of the thesis are comprised of 4 chapters. The early chaspters are devoted to the understanding of the ecosystem and problems of current energy consumption in the apartment. It is fellowed by the introduction of the hypothesis that can possibly save reouruces. The hypothesis are then transformed into the actual theories through verification, to be established as the new techniques of the site planning. The ecosystem is the functional relationship between the living organisms and their physical surroundings. The living organisms are the plants that produce, animals that consume and bacterias that decompose. They live in the environment which consists of the three worlds of atmosphere, hydrosphere and lithosphere. The whole system is activated by the solar energy that turns the inorganic mallet- into the living organism and back to the inorganic. It is the recycling principle of the ecosystem. The elements of ecosystem that fan be unilimited as the tools of resources -saving are the sun, wind, water, soil, plant and waste. They are unlimited sources of energy. free of pollution and cheap in price. Each of these ecological elements Provide the opportunities that can save the heating fuel, air conditioning energy, water resource, land and food. The ecological approch should be pursued actively in this age of short resources and growing pollution. In the scale of total energy consumption the housing takes the second position next to the industrial use. It is followed by the transportation which shows for less consumption than former two.

This paper presents wind pressure distribution on high-rise apartment buildings through wind-tunnel tests. In order to investigate wind-induced interference efforts on building claddings an apartment complex, which was damaged on the claddings during typhoon attack, was exampled and constructed as a scaled model. A series of wind tunnel tests using pressure models were performed in a boundary layer wind tunnel. The test results with and without interfering buildings were compared and discussed. It is observed that the wind pressure on buildings 105 and 106 with surrounding buildings shows highly negative, while the pressure without surrounding buildings were positive. Therefore the wind-induced interference effects should be taken into account in the design of claddings through wind-tunnel tests.

Recently, apartment designs are tend to be changed from the standard pattern by many causes and the beam-column structures are getting popular instead of wall structure system. Therefore, for the effective use of planed space the heights of apartment are tend to be higher and higher. According to Korea Building Code, earthquake resistance designs or seismic design for those high rise apartments must be more attentive and accurate, especially, dynamic periods of structures must be exactly measured, because those are very important for equivalent static analysis. The important subject of this study is to investigate the safety factors and seismic performance for natural period of high rise buildings by comparing the natural periods getting from ambient vibration method with those of Korea Building Code.

Recently, the number of unsold apartments has been increasing, and apartment furnishing companies have tried a marketing strategy by utilizing the outdoor space for differentiation. There are many differentiation strategies. One of them is to improve the dwellings-on-ground space in apartment complex. Owing to the high density and high-rise of apartment buildings, the dwellings-on-ground apartment complex have been recognized as not good housing by residents in korea. The precedent study on the responses from residents showed the negative effects mainly due to sunlight, daylight, view and privacy and the positive effects from good accessibility and good environment for children and elderly people. The purpose of this study was to improve the dwellings-on-ground space and to suggest the most appropriate type of the dwellings-on-ground space through the residents' desires and preferences. In this point of view, this study shows three results for the design improvement: 1) Providing private gardens and individual accesses to the dwellings-on-ground. 2) Providing private garden with flower bed to intensify the visual aspect. 3) Furnishing variable transformation of unit plan in dwellings-on-ground, for example, maisonette, etc.

Recently, since structures have become extremely airtight with the development of high-rise apartments, mixed use residential and commercial buildings and offices, large capacity range hoods have become commonly implemented. However, the high noise level caused by this range hood system made of thin plate is the cause of increased complaints among users. In this study, the level of noise emitted from this type of range hood was measured by height at the user's location in the kitchen. It was confirmed that a great deal of noise was emitted in the downward direction of the hood. In order to minimize the noise emitted from this type of range hood, a new type of fan was manufactured. This was done by changing only the material and shape of the fan, since it was determined to be the primary source of noise emission. Then a comparison and evaluation were carried out regarding the noise characteristics between the new type of fan and the existing type of fan. As a result, it was confirmed that the noise from the new fan was reduced by more than 2 dB compared to the existing fan without noise interference at the discharge end.

High-rise apartments of shear wall system are governed by flexural behavior like a cantilever beam. Installation of the damper-brace system in a structure governed by flexural behavior is not suitable. Because of relatively high lateral stiffness of the shear wall, a load is not concentrate on the brace and the brace cannot perform a role as a damping device. In this paper, a friction damper applying flexibility of shear wall is proposed in order to reduce the deformation of a structure. To evaluate performance of the proposed friction damper, nonlinear time history analysis is executed by SeismoStruct analysis program and MVLEM(multi vertical linear element model) be used for simulating flexural behavior of the shear wall. It is found that control performance of the proposed friction damper is superior to one of a coupled wall with rigid beam. In conclusion, this study verified that the optimal control performance of the proposed friction damper is equal to 45 % of the maximum shear force inducing in middle-floor beam with rigid beam.
