  • In recent years, miniaturization has become the key factor in the development of mobile communication system. Portable communications and computing devices suffer from two conflicting requirements which are device size to be as small as possible and large, high resolution display. These problems can be solved by virtual display. Any display in which the user views an image through an optical system is a virtual display. It provides a display which is high resolution, appears large to the viewer and at the same time occupies little physical space. In this study, handhold units of mobile communication was investigated through use of the SLA(Scanned Linear Array). The basic SLA mechanism comprises a linear array of LED's, a magnifying lens, and a scan mirror. To optimize virtual image, we investigated optical system design and operating condition for each part.

  • 3M has developed a Precision Replication Process for the production of PDP Barrier Ribs and other display devices. This process, is fast, clean and capable of producing very high resolution (FHD and beyond), high aperture ratio and fine cell structures.   • Octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) self-assembled monolayer was selectively patterned by deep ultraviolet exposure, resulting in differential surface state, hydrophilic area with OTS hydrophobic surroundings. High-resolution (<10 ${\mu}m$) nanoparticulate Ag electrodes and organic semiconductors were patterned from simple dip-casting and ink-jetting on the pre-patterned hydrophilic surface, forming all solution-processed organic thin film transistors. The devices typically have shown a mobility of 0.065 $cm^2/V{\cdot}s$ and on-off current ratio of $8{\times}10^5$.

  • In this paper, we propose a super-resolution method that reconstructs compressed low-resolution images into high-resolution images. We propose a CNN model with a small number of parameters, and even if quantization is applied to the proposed model, super-resolution can be implemented without deteriorating the image quality. To further improve the quality of the compressed low-resolution image, a new degradation model was proposed instead of the existing bicubic degradation model. The proposed degradation model is used only in the training process and can be applied by changing only the parameter values to the original CNN model. In the super-resolution image applying the proposed degradation model, visual artifacts caused by image compression were effectively removed. As a result, our proposed method generates higher PSNR values at compressed images and shows better visual quality, compared to conventional CNN-based SR methods.

  • We report simple new techniques to express analysis of display materials. Colour Cathodoluminescence combined with scanning electron microscopy and spectroscopy is a powerful, non-destructive, high-resolution method for investigation luminescent materials. Some applications of this method to powder phosphors used in display are demonstrated.

  • 최근 모바일 장치의 기능이 발전하면서, 스마트폰에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있다. 스마트폰은 휴대성이라는 장점을 가지고 있음에도 불구하고, 그 기기의 크기가 작아 사용자 인터페이스 관점에서 불편함이 많이 있었다. 본 논문에서는 이 문제점올 해결하기 위해 안드로이드 모바일 플랫폼에서의 프레임버퍼 구조를 수정하여, 동적으로 해상 전환시켜 크기가 큰 외부 디스플레이 장치로 디스플레이를 전환하고, 기존의 휴대폰은 리모콘으로 활용할 수 있는 사용자 인터페이스 전환 기술을 개발하였다.

  • Organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) based on a semiconducting polymer have been fabricated using an organic patterning methodology. Laser assisted lift-off (LALO) technique, ablating selectively the hydrophobic layer by an excimer laser, was used for producing a semiconducting polymer channel in the OTFT with high resolution. The selective wettability of a semiconducting polymer, poly (9-9-dioctylfluorene-co-bithiophene) (F8T2), dissolved in a polar solvent was found to define precisely the pattering resolution of the active channel. It is demonstrated that in the F8T2 TFTs fabricated using the LALO technique and is applicable for the larger area display.

Fabrication of High-Resolution Pixels in Organic Light-Emitting Displays Using Laser-Inscribed Sacrificial Layer

  • We developed a novel patterning method of organic light emitting materials using a laser-inscribed sacrificial layer for fabricating high-resolution pixels in organic light emitting displays (OLEDs). Our patterning process is capable of achieving high spatial resolution of about 10 ${\mu}m$. Moreover, it has no detrimental effect on the electrical properties of organic materials. This patterning approach is expected to be applicable for patterning and integrating a wide range of organic materials for organic electronic and optoelectronic devices.

  • Since the introduction of CRT(Cathode Ray Tube) in the 1950s, display technologies have been developed continuously. Flat panel displays such as PDP(Plasma Display Panel) and LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) were commercialized in the late 1990s, and OLED(Organic Light Emitting Diodes) and Micro-LED(Micro-Light Emitting Diodes) are now being developed and are becoming widespread. In the future, we expect to develop ultra-realistic, flexible, embedded sensor displays. Ultra-realistic display can be applied to AR/VR(Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality) devices and spatial light modulators for holography. The sensor-embedded display can be applied to robots; electronic skin; and security devices, including iris recognition sensors, fingerprint recognition sensors, and tactile sensors. AR/VR technology must be developed to meet technical requirements such as viewing angle, resolution, and refresh rate. Holography requires optical modulation technology that can significantly improve resolution, viewing angle, and modulation method to enable wide-view and high-quality hologram stereoscopic images. For electronic skin, stable mass production technology, large-area arrays, and system integration technologies should be developed.
