Changes in Pectic Substances of Mature-Green Mume (Prunus mume Sieb. et Zucc) Fruit as Influenced by the Thickness of Packaging Film during Storage (포장필름의 두께가 청매실의 저장중 펙틴질의 변화에 미치는 영향)

  • Effect of the thickness of packaging film on the ripening of mature-green mume (Prunus mume Sieb. et Zucc) fruit was investigated by measuring physicochemical changes of the fruit during storage. Fruits were packaged using low density polyethylene (LDPE) films with thicknesses of 20, 30, and 40$\mu$m and stored at the room temperature. The physicochemical properties such as contents of various pectic substances, molecular weight distribution of soluble pectic substances, and surface image of the fruit were determined during storage of 8 days. In general, regardless of the thickness of the films applied, a content of water-soluble pectin (WSP) in the fruit was increased during storage, but both contents of HCI- soluble pectin (HSP), and Ca and Mg in total alcohol-insoluble solids were decreased. Sephacryl S-300 gel filtration study revealed that fractions of high molecular weight HSP and WSP decomposed into lower molecular weight pectins during storage. The scanning electronic microscope also identified a significant structural change of the fruit skin over the storage time. It could be concluded from the results that fruits packaged with LDPE 30${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ film maintained the highest physicochemical quality of green mume fruit during storage.

커패시터에의 적용을 위해 PET 필름에 스퍼터 증착한 ZrO2 박막의 특성

  • 최근의 환경 및 에너지에 대한 관심으로 수요가 증가하고 있는 하이브리드 및 전기 자동차나 태양광발전, 풍력발전용의 인버터기기에는 고에너지밀도 커패시터가 필수적이 되었다. 높은 에너지 밀도를 요구하는 전력전자, 펄스파워 등의 응용분야에 사용되는 고에너지밀도 커패시터는 PET (Polyethylene terephtalate)와 PP (Polypropylene)와 같은 폴리머 유전체를 사용하는 범용 필름 커패시터가 사용되었으나 사용 요구 조건의 한계에 도달하여, 새로운 유전체를 적용하는 커패시터가 절실히 필요한 상황이다. PET와 PP와 같은 유전체는 유전상수가 2~3의 낮은 값을 가지고 있어 고에너지밀도를 구현하기가 어렵다. 본 연구에서는 새롭게 요구되고 있는 고에너지 밀도 커패시터의의 성능을 만족시키기 위하여 $20{\sim}50{\mu}m$ 두께의 PET 필름상에 세라믹 유전체인 $ZrO_2$ 박막을 스퍼터(Sputter) 증착법에 의해 코팅하여 종래의 필름 커패시터와 세라믹 커패시터의 장점을 갖는 커패시터를 제조하기 위한 박막 유전재료의 개발을 목표로 하였다. 수백 nm~수 ${\mu}m$ 두께의 $ZrO_2$ 박막을 스퍼터링 공정조건에 따라 증착한 후 박막의 결정성, 기판과의 부착성, 증착속도, 유전상수, 절연파괴강도, 온도안정성 등을 XRD, SEM, AFM, EDS, XPS, Impedance analyzer 등에 의해 평가하였다. $ZrO_2$ 유전체막은 상온에서 증착하였음에도 정방정(tetragonal)구조의 결정질로 성장하였고 증착압력이 증가함에 따라 주피크의 세기가 감소하였다. 증착 중 산소가스를 주입하였을 경우에도 결정질막으로 성장하였다. 증착막들은 산소가스의 양이 증가함에 따라 짙은 흰색으로 변하였으며 PET 기판과의 접착력도 약해졌다. 또한 거칠기는 Ar가스만으로 증착한 경우보다 증가하였으며 24~66 nm의 평균 거칠기값을 보였다. PET위에 Ar가스만으로 증착한 $ZrO_2$의 비유전율은 1kHz에서 116~87의 비유전율을 보여 PET에 비해 매우 우수한 특성을 보였다. $ZrO_2$ 막들은 300kV/cm의 전계에서 대략 10-8A 이하의 누설전류를 보였다. 증착가스비를 달리하여 제조된 시편에서도 유사한 누설전류값을 나타내었다. 300 kV/cm 전후의 전계까지 측정한 $ZrO_2$ 막의 P-E (polarization-electric field) 특성을 확인하였는데, 5 mTorr의 압력에서 증착한 막은 253 kV/cm에서 $5.5{\mu}C/cm^2$의 분극값을 보였다. P-E커브의 기울기와 분극량에 따라 에너지밀도가 달라지므로 공정조건에 따라 에너지밀도가 변화됨을 예측할 수 있었다. PET위에 스퍼터 증착한 $ZrO_2$ 유전체막은 5mTorr의 Ar가스분위기에서 제조할 때 가장 안정적인 구조를 보였으며, 고에너지밀도 커패시터에의 적용가능성을 보였다.

Catalytic decomposition of HDPE over Al-MCM-48 using TGA and Py-GC/FID (TGA와 Py-GC/FID를 이용한 Al-MCM-48상에서 HDPE의 촉매(觸媒) 열분해(熱分解))

  • Al-MCM-48 was used as a catalyst to decompose high density polyethylene(HDPE). Catalytic activity of Al-MCM-48 was compared with those of Al-MCM-41, Beta, and ZSM-5. Catalytic decomposition rate over Al-MCM-48 was much higher than at of non-catalytic pyrolysis only. Compared to other catalysts, Al-MCM-48 revealed the little higher activation energy value. The progressive deactivation behavior of the catalysts has also studied. ZSM-5 and Al-MCM-48 showed slower deactivation rates than Al-MCM-41 and Beta. Pyrolysis coupled with gas chromatographic separation and flame ionization detection (Py-GC/ FID) was also performed to assess the characteristics of pyrolysis products. ZSM-5 gave a higher fraction of gaseous products ($C_1-C_4$). Al-MCM-41 and Beta produced mainly $C_5-C_{12}$ products. The selectivity to oil product ($C_5-C_{22}$) obtained with Al- MCM-48 is higher an that with the other catalysts employed in this study.

  • To analyze the photodegradation mechanism of materials for fisheries facilities which stand for considerable time immediately under or even partly above the water surface, such as cage collar, cage net, stationary fishing gear, egc. after 900 hours exposure, weathering experiments on 3 kinds of netting twines like dyed polyethylene(PE) and nylon, and non-treated high strength PE(Hi-PE) were carried out by using xenon light source. The results obtained are as follows : It was observed by scanning electron micrograph(SEM) that a good protection by pigments was obtained in PE and nylon specimen, while crack was rapidly progressed at the surface of Hi-PE one owing to etching by UVR. There was a little increase in density resulting from reorientation of polymer chain, chain scission, etc. in Hi-PE specimen. A wide angle X-ray diffraction showed that 3 kinds of specimens had no fundamental changes in polymer crystalline structure considering each 2$\theta$ of diffraction peak. Remaining tenacity of netting twines was in order of PE, nylon, and Hi-PE after having been exposed to the effect of 900 hours. PE and nylon treated with stuffs were shown to be more resilient than non-treated Hi-PE as confirmed by SEM.

Crystallization Behavior and Mechanical Properties of High Density Polyethylene/metallocene catalyzed Poly(ethylene-co-octene) Blends (고밀도 폴리에틸렌/폴리에틸렌-옥텐 공중합체 블렌드의 결정화 거동 및 기계적 물성에 관한 연구)

  • Compatibility between mLLDPE and HDPE was investigated by observing the crystallization behavior and mechanical properties of their blends. HDPE and mLLDPE blends were prepared by a melt-blending with compositions of 100/0, 80/20, 60/40, 40/60/ 20/80 and 0/100. Four different mLLDPEs containing various octene contents (4.1, 6.8, 9.8 및 12.5 mol.%) were investigated. The melting temperature and crystallization peak temperature of the blends were measured by DSC and the mechanical properties were measured in an universal testing machine. By observation that the melting and crystallization peak temperatures of one component were affected by its counterparts, it was revealed that HDPE and mLLDPE are miscible or at leat partially miscible at molten state. It was also found that the crystalline phase of mLLDPE contains HDPE crystals. However. it was not clear that mLLDPE was cocrystalized in the crystalline phase of HDPE. By various investigation with DSC and mechanical properties, it was concluded that the compatibility between mLLDPE and HDPE decreases with the octene content in the mLLDPE.

Formulation of Sustained-release Tablets of Felodipine using Hydrophilic Polymers and Non-ionic Surfactants (친수성고분자 및 비이온성 계면활성제를 이용한 펠로디핀 서방정제의 설계)

  • Felodipine, a calcium-antagonist of dihydropyridine type, is a poorly water soluble drug and has very low bioavailability. As preceding studies, use of solid dispersion systems and surfactants(solubilizers) has been suggested to increase dissolution and to improve bioavailability of felodipine. But in case of solid dispersion systems, large amount of toxic organic solvents should be used and manufacturing process time become longer than conventional process. In case of using surfactants, as time elapsed, decreasing of dissolution rate of felodipine due to crystallization has been reported. In this study, Copovidon as a hydrophilic polymer and $Transcutol^{\circledR}$ as a surfactant were combined to formulations if order to increase dissolution of felodipine and conventional wet granulation process were applied to manufacturing of formulations. The effect of Copovidon and $Transcutol^{\circledR}$ on the dissolution oi felodipine was investigated in-vitro. When Copovidon and $Transcutol^{\circledR}$ used simultaneously, the dissolution rate of felodipine was prominently increased compared with when used separately and the maximum increase in the dissolution of felodipine was 5.8 fold compared to control. This is most probably due to synergy effect by combination of Copovidon and $Transcutol^{\circledR}$. Felodipine sustained release tablets were successfully formulated using several grades of HPMC as a release retarding agent. The stability of felodipine sustained release tablet was evaluated after storage at accelerated condition($40^{\circ}C/75%\;RH$) for 6months in HDPE(High density polyethylene) bottle. Neither significant degradation nor change of dissolution rate for felodipine was observed after 6months. In conclusion, felodipine sustained release tablet was successfully formulated and dissolution of felodipine, poorly water soluble drug, was prominently increased and also stability was guaranteed by using combination system of hydrophilic polymer and surfactant.

Effect of Packaging Material and Storage Temperature on the Quality of Tomato and Plum Fruits (포장재 및 저장온도가 토마토와 자두의 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • To examine the quality changes of tomato and plum fruits during storage under various storage conditions, the rate of weight loss, pH change, titratable acidity, Hunter a value, firmness, and anthocyanin content were determined during storage. Tomato and plum fruits were stored at 4$^{\circ}C$ and 25$^{\circ}C$. Tomato fruits were packaged with high density polyethylene film (HDPE) and polyvinylidene chloride film (PVDC), and plum fruits were packaged with HDPE. Tomato fruits packaged with PVDC and plum fruits packaged with HDPE at 4$^{\circ}C$ were the most desirable in terms of weight loss. Titratable acidity of tomato fruits decreased with increasing storage time regardless of temperature and packaging method. Hunter a value of tomato fruits stored at 25$^{\circ}C$ increased regardless of packaging method, while it was not changed for tomato fruits stored at 4$^{\circ}C$. Firmness of plum fruits stored at 25$^{\circ}C$ significantly decreased during storage and anthocyanin content increased. Microbial numbers of tomato fruits increased during storage, but its rate was retarded during storage when tomato fruits were packaged with HDPE and stored at 4$^{\circ}C$. These results suggest that cold chain system and appropriate packaging could maintain the quality and prolong the shelf life of fresh produce.

A Study on PTC/NTC Behavior of Fluorinated Carbon Black-filled HDPE Matrix Compounds (불소처리된 카본블랙을 충전한 HDPE 기지 컴파운드의 PTC/NTC 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the fluorinated carbon blacks(CB) were used to reduce the negative temperature coefficient (NTC) phenomenon of the CB-filled high density polyethylene(HDPE) compounds in the fluorination pressure of 0.1-0.4 MPa. The changes in surface properties of the CB were investigated by using FT-IR, XPS and contact angle measurements. From the FT-IR results, the fluorinated CB showed the C-F absorption peak at 1400-1000 cm$^{-1}$ and the peak intensity was increased with increasing the fluorination pressure. Also, the analysis of XPS spectra of the fluorinated CB indicated that fluorine content was increased with increasing the fluorination pressure. Meanwhile, the surface free energy of the fluorinated CB was decreased with increasing the fluorination pressure. Consequently, the increase of fluorine contents on CB made a disappearance of NTC behaviors of CB/HDPE compounds, which was probably due to the reduction of CB reaggregation after melting point of the HDPE, resulting from decreasing the surface free energy of CB particles.

Shape Design of Bends in District Heating Pipe System by Taguchi Method (다구찌 방법을 이용한 지역난방시스템의 벤드형상 설계)

  • In this study, alternative designs for the bends used in district heating pipes are investigated. The district heating pipes, which are subjected to temperatures of 10 to $120^{\circ}C$ and a water pressure of $16\;kgf/cm^2$, have to withstand thermomechanical cyclic loads when in use. These pipes comprise three concentric tubes: a steel pipe (internal), polyurethane (PUR) insulator (middle), and a high-density polyethylene (HDPE) case (external). In addition, the bends in the district heating pipe system are covered with foam pads that cause aging. In this study, an alternative bend design that does not involve the use of a foam pad is proposed to overcome the aging problem in the bends. In the proposed design, "shear rings" are added to the surface of a bend, and its dimensions are determined by a combination of the statistical (Taguchi) method and FEM. The geometrical parameters such as thickness, height, and number of the rings significantly affect the design optimization, and hence, they affect the results of the FEM.

Quality characteristics of cut kimchi cabbage during short-term storage depending on the packaging materials (절단배추의 포장재질에 따른 단기 저장 중 품질특성)

  • Fresh cut vegetables provide convenience and rapidity to consumers. However, they have a weakness with respect to their short shelf-life due to browning and quality degradation via increased respiration. To overcome this problem, the effect of packaging film on the short-term storage of cut kimchi cabbages was investigated. Polypropylene (PP), oriented polypropylene (OPP), and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) films were used as packaging film, and cut kimchi cabbages were stored in the packaging films at $5^{\circ}C$ for 4 weeks. PP film packaging showed the least weight loss and soluble solids loss after 4 weeks. Titratable acidity increased during storage for all samples, however, the increase rate of titratable acidity in PP and OPP film packaging decreased, which was lower than that of LDPE film packaging. Color values decreased over time during storage. In appearance, PP film packaging was better than other films due to their high transparency. In a sensory test, there was no statistical difference among samples. Taken together, the transparent PP film packaging was more effective for short-term storage of cut kimchi cabbages. Thus, this study provides useful information for the selection of packaging materials for cut kimchi cabbage marketing.
