$REBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-d}$(REBCO) coated conductors(REBCO CCs) have been studied for electric power applications which require high current density wires. As long as the critical transition temperature(Tc) is concerned, REBCO CCs with large $RE^{3+}$ ions have been expected to have better current transport properties than those with smaller $RE^{3+}$ ions. For this reason, REBCO's with large $RE^{3+}$ ions which include GdBCO, NdBCO and SmBCO have been mainly considered as the superconducting layer of CCs. On the other hand, REBCO's with smaller $RE^{3+}$ions are expected to have advantages in the fabrication process of CCs because of the lower melting temperature. But it has not yet been made clear which REBCO is the most suitable for the superconducting layer of CCs. In this study, we investigated the current transport properties of REBCO CCs with small $RE^{3+}$ ion and advantages of using that in the CC fabrication process. Thin films of TmBCO, which has smaller $RE^{3+}$ion than most other $RE^{3+}$ ions, were fabricated on buffered metal substrate as the superconducting layer of CC by PLD process. TmBCO CC shows critical current density (Jc (77 K, sf) = $2.3\;MA/cm^2$) high enough to be utilized for application in electric power devices. Compared with previous experiments using the same PLD system, deposition temperature was approximately $20^{\circ}C$ lower than NdBCO thin films on buffered metal substrates.

We investigated the temperature and magnetic field dependent optical properties of a$ MgB_2$ thin film in the far-infrared region. In the superconducting state, i.e. 5 K, we obtained the values of superconducting gap $2\Delta$ ~ 5.2 meV and $2\Delta$$_{k}$$B/T_{c}$ ~1.8. Although the value of$ 2\Delta$$B/T_{c}$ was nearly half of the BCS value, the $2\Delta$ seemed to follow the temperature dependence of the BCS formula. Under the magnetic field (H), the superconducting state became suppressed. Interestingly, we found that the normal state area fraction abruptly increased at low field but slowly increased at high field. It did not follow the H-dependences predicted for a s-wave superconductor (i.e. a linear dependence) nor for a s-wave one (i.e. $H^{1}$2/ dependence). We discussed the complex gap nature of $MgB_2$ in comparison with two gap and anisotropic s-wave scenarios.ios.
Y-Ra-Cu-0 oxide superconductors were fabricated by the sinter-forging method to make the critical current density improve through controlling of microstructure and crystal texture. The grain alignment of oxide superconductor was formed by the sinter-forging process and it's c-axis orientation was parallel to the press direction. The orientation factor of texture increased with sinking temperature and pressure, and also grain alignment was improved by the addition of Ag. As for the sinterforged Y-Ba-Cu-O/Ag sample, the $T_c$(on-set) was not almost varied with the sinter-forging temperature, but $T_c\;^{zero}$ decreased more or less at high sinter-forging temperatures. In addition, it was observed that added-Ag was mainly distributed along the grain boundar~es in the (123) matrix, resulting in the densification of microstructure. From these results, i t was thought that the improvement of $J_c$ over 2000A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ was attributed to the texture, densification of microstructure, and (123) grain growth due to the Ag addition.

BSCCO HTS(High Temperature Superconductor) could be applied to superconducting cable, magnet and motor, using its hight critical properties. Especially, superconducting cable has a hight possibility of practical use due to the possibility of low voltage and high capacity transmission caused by its lower power loss than copper cable. In this paper, the transport characteristics of BSCCO superconducting cable, according to the change of BSCCO superconducting cable's accident point at phase $0^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}C$, were analyzed and compared each other. Consequently, when the accident was occur the resistance of the HTS was higher at the point phase $0^{\circ}$ than $45^{\circ}$ which means it will cause much higher load on the HTS.
$Y(Pr)Ba_2Cu_4O_8$ system is one of the most studied high temperature superconductors. Substitution of Pr for Y in this system suppresses $T_c$ and superconductivity finally disappears at a high Pr doping. There are competing theories for the suppression of $T_c$ but systematic experimental results are very rare. In order to find the change in Fermi surface topology which can affect the superconductivity, we have performed angle-resolved photoemission studies on single crystal samples of $YBa_2Cu_4O_8$ and $PrBa_2Cu_4O_8$. While the Fermi surface of $YBa_2Cu_4O_8$ shows a similar topology to those of other cuprates, we observe only 1D like band structures in $PrBa_2Cu_4O_8$. We find no significant differences in the chain band for both samples.

Samples with the nominal composition, B $i_{1.84}$P $b_{0.34}$S $r_{1.91}$C $a_{2.03}$C $u_{3.06}$$O_{10+{\delta}}$ high- $T_{c}$ superconductors containing MgO as an additive were fabricated by a solid-state reaction method. Samples with MgO of 5~30 wt% each were sintered at 820~86$0^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours. The structural characteristics, critical temperature, grain size and image of mapping with respect to MgO contents were analyzed by XRD(X-Ray Diffraction), SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope) and EDS(Energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer) respectively. As MgO contents increased, intensity of MgO Peaks and ratio of Bi-2212 phase in superconductors intensified and the proportion of the phase transition from Bi-2223 to Bi-2212 was increased.

Fault current limiters (FCL) are extensively needed to suppress fault currents, especially for trunk power systems heavily connected to high voltage/large current transmission lines. Due to its ideal electrical behavior, high-temperature superconductor fault current limiter (HTSFCL) becomes one of the most important developing trends of limiters in power system. This paper describes the result of an investigation of the dielectric characteristics of turn-to-turn insulation for pancake and solenoid type reactor coil in liquid nitrogen. The influence of thickness in a variety length, on AC, DC and impulse surface flashover has been investigated. Also, the relationships between the number of turn and breakdown characteristics were clarified. The information gathered in this test series should be helpful in the design of liquid nitrogen filled DC reactor type HTSFCL.

(YNdSm)-Ba-Cu-O system high Tc composite superconductors were directionally grown by zone melting process, having large temperature gradient, in air atmosphere. Cylindrical green rods of $(YNdSm)_{1.8}Ba_{2.4}Cu_{3.4}O_x$ [(YNS)1.8]composite oxides by CIP (cold isostatic pressing) method using rubber mold were fabricated. The microstructure and superconducting properties were investigated by XRD, TEM and SQUID magnetometer. The size of nonsuperconducting $(YNdSm)_2BaCuO_5$ inclusions of the melt-textured (YNS)1.8 sample with $CeO_2$ additive were remarkably reduced and uniformly distributed within the superconducting (YNS)1.8 matrix. (YNS)1.8 samples, with / without $CeO_2$ additive, showed an onset $T_c{\geq}90K$ and sharp superconducting transition. The critical current density $J_c$ value of the (YNdSm)1.8 superconductor with $CeO_2$ additive were 840 A, $1.2{\times}104A/cm^2$ in 77 K, 0 Tesla by direct current transport method.

Currently, Bi-2223 HTS tape is capable of being fabricated in longer than 100m length by industrial processes. But there are some problems in heat treatment of the degree of longer than 100m tape, which is in term of volume occupied with specimen in furnace. The effects of ceramic coating with variable slurry states were studied in Bi-2223 high-temperature superconductor. The HTS tapes coated with oxide were prepared by using dip-coating method on slurry state. Critical current(I$_{c}$) of tapes coated with ceramic materials were equal with 11.5A at 77K after first heat treatment as different slurries. For final heat treatment, Critical current of HTS tapes coated with zirconia oxide mixed in PMMA and PVA organic solute were 20.8A at 77K. The breakdown voltage of HTS tapes coated with zirconia oxide were 3kV in air and 4~7kV in L$N_2$.>.
Due to large in-field current carrying capacity and strong mechanical strength, a REBCO wire has been regarded as a viable high temperature superconductor (HTS) option for high field MRI and > 1 GHz (>23.5 T) NMR magnets. However, a REBCO magnet is well known to have an inherent problem of field inhomogeneity, so-called 'Screening Current induced magnetic Field (SCF)'. Recently, 'field shaking' and 'current overshoot operation' techniques have been successfully demonstrated to mitigate the SCF and enhance the field homogeneity by experiments. To investigate the effectiveness of current overshooting operation technique, a numerical simulation is conducted for a test REBCO magnet composed of a stack of double pancake coils using '2D edge-element magnetic field formulation' combined with 'domain homogenization' scheme. The simulation result demonstrates that an appropriate amount of current overshoot can negate the SCF. To verify the simulation results, current overshoot experiments are conducted for the REBCO magnet in liquid nitrogen. Experimental results also demonstrate the possible application of current overshoot technique to mitigate the SCF and enhance the field homogeneity.
