QoS-aware Cross Layer Handover Scheme for High-Speed vehicles

  • High-Speed vehicles can be considered as multiple mobile nodes that move together in a large-scale mobile network. High-speed makes the time allowed for a mobile node to complete a handover procedure shorter and more frequently. Hence, several protocols are used to manage the mobility of mobile nodes such as Network Mobility (NEMO). However, there are still some problems such as high handover latency and packet loss. So efficient handover management is needed to meet Quality of Service (QoS) requirements for real-time applications. This paper utilizes the cross-layer seamless handover technique for network mobility presented in cellular networks. It extends this technique to propose QoS-aware NEMO protocol which considers QoS requirements for real-time applications. A novel analytical framework is developed to compare the performance of the proposed protocol with basic NEMO using cost functions for realistic city mobility model. The numerical results show that QoS-aware NEMO protocol improves the performance in terms of handover latency, packet delivery cost, location update cost, and total cost.

  • This paper considers a network restoration algorithm for all-optical WDM networks. As the increasing traffic and transmission speed, any failure on the networks will lead to loss of huge data and disruption of the services. Therefore, a network restoration algorithm is necessary for the high-speed all-optical networks. This paper suggests a distributed restoration algorithm for line or channel level failures under the dynamic rerouting. For the algorithm, some measures for performance evaluation are explicitly derived and simulation studies are exploited to evaluate its usability by SLAM(Simulation Language for Alternative Modeling) II.

  • In this paper, we implemented sigmoid active function which make it difficult to design of the digital neuron networks. Therefore, we designed of the high speed processing of the sigmoid function in order to digital neural networks. we designed of the MAC(Multiplier and Accumulator) operation unit used residue number system without carry propagation for the high speed operation. we designed of MAC operation unit and sigmoid processing unit are proved that it could run of the high speed. On the simulation, the faster than 4.6ns on the each order, we expected that it adapted to the implementation of the high speed digital neural network.

  • Prediction of the top(service) speeds of high-speed trains and configuration design to trainset of them has been studied using the neural network system The traction system. The traction system of high-speed trains is composed of transformers, motor blocks, and traction motors of which locations and number in the trainset formation should be determine in the early stage of train conceptural design. Components of the traction system are the heaviest parts in a train so that it gives strong influence to the top speeds of high-speed trains. Prediction of the top speeds has been performed mainly with data associated with the traction system based on the frequently used neural network system-backpropagation. The neural network has been trained with the data of the high-speed trains such as TGV, ICE, and Shinkanse. Configuration design of the trainset determines the number of trains motor cars, traction motors, weights and power of trains. Configuration results from the neural network are more accurate if neural networks is trained with data of the same type of trains will be designed.

  • The current maritime data communications mainly depend on radio and satellite which have restrictions on data rate and cost. That leads to needs of novel relatively-high-speed data communication systems at sea just like on land. This paper proposes a routing protocol (MWR) for newly designed model of ship-to-ship communication networks at sea. The MWR protocol finds out an optimal route by selecting an optimal network for each specific application from overlapped networks of available wireless media at sea.

  • A high performance routing switch is an essential device to either the high performance parallel processing or communication networks that handle multimedia transfer systems such as VOD. The high performance routing chip called STC104 is a typical example in the technical aspect which has 32 bidirectional links of 100Mbps transfer sped. It has exploited new technologies, such as wormhole routing, interval labeling, and adaptive routing method. The high speed router has been applied into some parallel processing system as a single chip. However, its performance over the various interconnection networks with multiple routing chips has not been studied. In this paper, the strucrtures and characteristics of the STC104 have been investigated in order to evaluate the high speed router. Various topology of the STC104, such as meshes, torus, and N-cube are defined and constructed. Algorithms of packet transmission have been proposed based on the interval labeling and the group adaptive routing method implemented in the interconnected network. Multicast algorithms, which are often requited to the processor networks and broadcasting systems, modified from U-mesh and U-torus algorithms have also been proposed overcoming the problems of point-to-point communication.

  • This paper is contents on that construct ultra high speed wireless communication cell backbone net of city using of wireless communication transceiver for millimeter wave band. A new type of 60GHz wave band wireless transceiver using NRD waveguide. This 60GHz transceiver has excellent signal's absorption characteristics of oxygen molecule than the other millimeter wave bands. We constructed service networks to cell interval within about 500m to 3Km laying stress on wireless backbone node using 60GHz transceivers, and did it so that city type wireless communication cell backbone networks of 155.52Mbps ATM(OC-3) may be possible. The possible use of wireless backbone networks technology in a rainy day and a clear day was evaluated at 1Km data link distance. We can measured bit error rate(BER). BER is $10^{-11}$ at 155.52Mbps ATM(OC-3) in a clear day and $10^{-6}$ in a heavy rain more than 35mm per time. Also, we constructed wireless cell backbone networks distance to use several 60GHz transceivers and investigated data transmission rate between main center and local center of long distance. In proposed wireless cell backbone networks, the data throughput was approximately 80Mbit/sec. Therefore, if use transceiver, it is possible that city type ultra high speed wireless communication cell backbone networks construction of 100Mbps, 155.52Mbps, 622Mbps, 1Gbps and 1.2Gbps degrees.

Improving the Reliability of IEEE 802.11s Based Wireless Mesh Networks for Smart Grid Systems

  • A challenge faced by smart grid systems is providing highly reliable transmissions to better serve different types of electrical applications and improve the energy efficiency of the system. Although wireless networking technologies can provide high-speed and cost-effective solutions, their performance may be impaired by various factors that affect the reliability of smart grid networks. Here, we first suggest the use of IEEE 802.11s-based wireless LAN mesh networks as high-speed wireless backbone networks for smart grid infrastructure to provide high scalability and flexibility while ensuring low installation and management costs. Thereafter, we analyze some vital problems of the IEEE 802.11s default routing protocol (named hybrid wireless mesh protocol; HWMP) from the perspective of transfer reliability, and propose appropriate solutions with a new routing method called HWMP-reliability enhancement to improve the routing reliability of 802.11s-based smart grid mesh networking. A simulation study using ns-3 was conducted to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed schemes.

  • The military satellite communication of ROK military, ANASIS is designed for analog data such as voice and streaming data. ANASIS cannot fully support ALL-IP communications due to its long propagation delay. The next generation satellite communication system is being designed to overcome the limitation. Next generation satellite communications system considers both high-speed and low-speed networks to support various operating environment. The low-speed satellite supports both broadband and narrow-band communication. This network works as the infrastructure for of wide-area internetworking over multiple AS's in the terrestrial network. It requires minimum satellite frequency and minimum power and works without PEP and router. In this paper, we propose a network operation structure to enable the inter-operation between high and low-speed satellite networks. In addition, we propose a data link protocol for low speed satellite networks.
