  • Effects of heating time and radiation under high temperature on the properties of thermal, mechanical and shielding ability of modified (KNS-101), hydrogenated bisphenol-A(KNS-201) type epoxy resin and phenol-novolac(KNS-301) type epoxy resin based neutron shielding materials that are used for shipping casks for radioactive material have been investigated. At early stages, the offset temperatures of KNS-101, KNS-201 and KNS-301 increased with the heating time under high temperature, but it was rarely affected by the heating time in the later stages. In addition, the thermal conductivities of KNS-101 and KNS-201 decreased with heating time, but that of KNS-301 increased with the heating time. On the contrary, the thermal expansion coefficients of neutron shielding materials decreased with heating time. At the high temperature, the tensile strength and flexural strength of the shielding materials decreased with heating time. On the contrary, the thermal expansion coefficients of neutron shielding materials decreased with heating time. At the high temperature, the tensile strength and flexural strength of the shielding materials of KNS-101 and KNS-301 increased with heating time, but those of KNS-201 decreased with heating time. The shielding ability of neutron shielding materials slightly increased with the radiation dose, and shielding abilities of shielding materials of KNS-101 and KNS-201 were affected to a more extent than that of KNS-301 by radiation dose under high temperature.

  • In this study, the mechanical properties of 80% cold-rolled austenitic 316L stainless steel were evaluated using specimens subjected to reverse transformation at 500-750℃ for 20 minutes and reverse transformation at 700℃ for 2-60 minutes. Also, for the elastic wave obtained from the tensile test, the dominant frequency according to the reverse transformation condition was investigated by time-frequency analysis. The SEM image of the 80% cold-rolled material was transformed into martensite and showed line and cross shapes. The TEM image showed that line shapes were shown at the grain, and grain boundary of martensite. The higher the heat treatment temperature and the longer time, the larger the grain. Tensile strength decreased as the heat treatment temperature and time increased, but elongation increased. Hardness was proportional to tensile strength. This is because the grain with different directions showed the same direction due to reverse transformation. The dominant frequency was decreased and then increased as the temperature and time increased. This is because the direction of the grain is different at a low temperature and the same direction is shown at a high temperature.

  • Purpose: To analyze thermal effect on mechanical properties of domestic commercial polymer-based eyewear frames. Methods: In this study, materials of cellulose acetate, polyamide, epoxy, and polyetherimide were exposed to high or low temperature and were mounted on universal test machine (TO-100-IC) for tensile strength test. Elastic behavior, Young's modulus, maximum displacement, and fatigue were tested with various temperature ($-25^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$, $60^{\circ}C$). Results: As a result, at room temperature, displacements of materials were changed with increasing impact load. At low temperature ($-25^{\circ}C$), maximum displacements of all specimens were decreased but young's modulus were increased. However, at high temperature, maximum displacements of all specimens were increased but young's modulus were decreased. Conclusions: Degree of displacements due to fatigue behavior was increased following direction of PEI, epoxy, polyamide, acetate. We concluded that commercial polymers used in eyewear frames physical properties were changed differently to exposed temperature.

  • Synthetic fiber materials were developed due the desire of consumers for high-quality, high-performance and comfort. A high functionality of synthetic fiber can be obtained through surface treatment that can improve hydrophilic properties, color depth after dyeing and adhesion properties. These advantages create added-value. Hydrophobic properties are an important feature to create added-value (such as hydrophilic properties). One side processing is a method of imparting to contrary function on the front and rear side. In this study, fluorine-coated Nylon/PU blended fabric was treated on only one side with a low-temperature plasma treatment; subsequently, the contact angles decreased by increasing the time and intensity of the plasma treatment. The contact angle of the untreated surface and the treated surface was different. It a showed a difference in the properties of both surfaces. Tensile strength and stiffness decreased by increasing the time and intensity of the plasma treatment. However, plasma treatment did not significantly change the tensile strength and stiffness on both surfaces of the fabric. SEM photographs showed the surface of fluorine-coated fabric and the etching surface by using plasma treatment on the fabric. Plasma treatment was confirmed not to affect the physical properties of the fabric.

  • In this study, hot isostatic pressed Ni-base superalloy was subjected by high-pressure torsion process to improve the dispersion of gamma prime phase, mechanical properties and remove prior particle boundaries. The resulting microstructural size decreases and prior particle boundaries removed with increasing strain by high-pressure torsion process. Moreover, the microhardness values and room temperature tensile strength were enhanced. However, the tensile elongation was decreased as increasing strain due to fast crack propagation along the refined and well dispersed gamma prime particles.

  • Due to a lack of objective and adequate study on the physical effects on hydroponic polyurethane waterproofing material water mixture ratio, construction site workers are having to rely on their hands-on experience to determine a mixture ratio, resulting in difficulty of maintaining quality management. Particularly in cases of rooftop exposed type hydroponic polyurethane materials, the varying temperature conditions make it further difficult for quality management control. in this regard, this study conducts tensile strength testing and compares the tensility change rates hydroponic polyurethane waterproofing materials with various water mixture ratios ranging from 0%~50% and exposed to alternating temperature change between -20℃ to 60℃ in the span of 1 hour after curing for 14 days.

  • Effects of the extrusion temperature and die angle on the tensile properties of SiCIyAl composites in powder extrusion have been investigated. SiCP/Al composites were extruded at various extrusion temperatures (450, 500, $550^{\circ}C$) under the extrusion ratio of 25 : 1. The ram speed was maintained at 13 cm/min for all the extrusion conditions. The surface of the extruded rod appeared to be smooth without tearing at 450 and 50$0^{\circ}C$, whereas it was very rough due to tearing at $550^{\circ}C$. It was found that the tensile strength and elongation of the composites extruded at $500^{\circ}C$ are greater than those of composites extruded at $450^{\circ}C$ This is due to the easier plastic deformation of composite extruded at $500^{\circ}C$, compared with the composites extruded at $450^{\circ}C$. The effect of die angle was examined under 20=60, 120, $180^{\circ}$die angles at extrusion temperature of $500^{\circ}C$ under 25:1 extrusion ratio. The tensile strength of the composites extruded with 20=$60^{\circ}$approved to be higher than that of the composties extruded with 28 : 120 and $180^{\circ}$This is attributable to the higher extrusion pressure, which mixed composite powders could be densely consolidated at elevated temperatures, resulting from high friction force between billet and sliding surface of conical die.

  • Aluminum clad sheets for brazing materials in the automotive heat exchangers are required to exhibit both high strength and excellent erosion resistance. In this study, the effects of microstructural changes on the property of clad sheets due to thermomechanical treatment were investigated. The clad sheets were fabricated by roll bonding of twin-roll-cast AA3527 and AA4343 alloys followed by cold rolling down to a thickness of 0.22mm. Partial or full annealing was conducted at the final thickness in order to improved the erosion resistance while keeping the proper strength. Since full annealing was achieved for a temperature of $400^{\circ}C$, annealing treatments were performed at 360, 380, and $400^{\circ}C$, respectively. The tensile strength of 3527/4343 clad material was found to be inversely proportional to the annealing temperature before the brazing heat treatment. After this latter treatment, however, the tensile strength of the clad material was about 195~200MPa regardless of the annealing temperature. The erosion depth ratio of the clad annealed at $400^{\circ}C$ was 8.8% (the lowest), while that of the clad annealed at $380^{\circ}C$ was 17% (the highest). The effect of annealing temperature on the tensile and erosion properties of 3527/4343 aluminum clad sheets was elucidated by means of microstructural analyses.

  • This paper presents the material properties of carbon steels for ships, and offshore structures (ASTM A131) are tested under a series of arctic and cryogenic temperature conditions. For material tension tests, among the ASTM 131 steels, Grades A and B of mild steel and Grade AH of high tensile steel have been used. The obtained mechanical properties of the materials from the material tension tests were applied in a 13,000TEU class container ship to define the effect of low temperature on the ultimate longitudinal strength of the target structure by using the ALPS/HULL intelligent supersize finite element method. The tensile coupon test results showed increased strength and nonuniform fracture strain behaviors within different grades and temperatures. Increasing the material strength resulted in increasing the ultimate longitudinal strength of the ship.

  • This paper presents fundamental experiment for the properties of high performance concrete in its fresh and hardened state made with ground granulated blast-furnace (GGBF) slag. The result is that the effect of decreasing xoncrete temperature is to the mixing ratio of GGBF slag, but it presents disadvantage in the slump loss phase. In addition to, we know that the splitting tensile strength, compressive strength and elastic modulus of concrete mixed with high fineness GGBF slag are increased at age 28days.
