Characteristic Evaluation of Line Diffusers for Air Quality Improvement of Laboratory (실험실 공기질 개선을 위한 라인디퓨져의 특성 평가)

  • This study is aimed at suggesting a linear-type diffuser which is excellent in terms of range and elegance like existing diffusers in which amount and direction of wind can be freely controled, out of linear-type diffusers with the highest possibility to be adopted for living space of apartments whose height between floors is not so high and utilizing the linear-type diffuser in design. For the purpose, I examined necessary flow and noise properties of linear-type diffusers. Besides, I evaluated its ventilation capacity for persons in there by applying this in the actual living space. I evaluated features and air blast and found that in time of horizontal and vertical effusion, its T/L ratio is 1-1.5, similar to existing cardioid-type linear diffusers, while in time of slope effusion, it is similar to horizontal effusion in terms of range and it has medium figure in terms of pressure drop and effusion speed, indicating it can provide safe and pleasant indoor environment for persons in there in terms of ventilation.

  • Three-dimensional(3D) motion analysis is a useful tool for analyzing sports performance. During the last few decades, advances in motion analysis equipment have enabled us to perform more and more complicated biomechanical analyses. Nevertheless, considering the complexity of biomechanical models and the amount of data recorded from the motion analysis system, subsequent processing of these data is required for event-specific motion analysis. The purpose of this study was to develop a basic golf swing analysis algorithm using a state-of-the-art VICON motion analysis system. The algorithm was developed to facilitate golf swing analysis, with special emphasis on 3D motion analysis and high-speed motion capture, which are not easily available from typical video camera systems. Furthermore, the developed algorithm generates golf swing-specific kinematic and kinetic variables that can easily be used by golfers and coaches who do not have advanced biomechanical knowledge. We provide a basic algorithm to convert massive and complicated VICON data to common golf swing-related variables. Future development is necessary for more practical and efficient golf swing analysis.

  • In this paper, we designed a RF transceiver operating up to 200 km operating range and 45 Mbps data rate. The RF transceiver operates in Ku band and composed of up/down converter, high power amplifier, front-end elements. To satisfy the operating range of RF transceiver, 10W power amplifier was required and realized by using GaN power amplifier. Moreover, to mitigate mutual interference for different bandwidth signals due to the adaptive transmission speed control function, SAW filter bank structure was used. To verify system requirement satisfaction AWR simulation tool was used.

  • Recently, the need for designing multi-stage gear drive has been increased as the hear drives are used more in the applications with high-speed and small volume. The design of multi-stage gear drives includes not only dimensional design but also configuration design of various machine elements. Until now, however, the researches on the design of gear drives are mainly focused on the single-stage gear drives and the design practices for multi-stage gear drives, especially in configuration design activity, mainly depend on the experiences and 'sense' of the designer by trial and error. We propose a design algorithm to automate the dimension design and the configuration design of multi-stage gear drives. The design process consists of four steps. The number of stage should be determined in the first step. In second step, the gear ratios of each reduction stage are determined using random search, and the ratios are basic input for the dimension design of gears, which is performed by the exhaustive search in third step. The designs of gears are guaranteed by the pitting resistance and bending strength rating practices by AGMA rating formulas. In configuration design, the positions of gears are determined to minimize the volume of gearbox using simulated annealing algorithm. The effectiveness of the algorithm is assured by the design example of a 4-stage gear drive.

Characteristics of Surface Morphology According to the Pulse Change When Wire-cut Electrical discharge Machining (와이어컷 방전가공시 펄스변화에 따른 표면형상 특성)

  • Wire deflection, surface roughness and roundness were observed on changing discharge time for electrical discharge machining(EDM) of STD-11 in various conditions of thickness. The wire deflection was decreased as increasing discharge time and wire tension. The deflection is the smallest at the speed of wire of 10.6m/min and the water specific resistivity of 5k$\Omega$.cm. The deflection is found to be decreased as increasing dwell time. But if the water pressure is high, it is found not to be changed after the vibration of 4sec. The component of copper(Cu) and zinc(Zn), which is the main material of wire electrode, is observed for rough wire-cutting EDM of STD-11. This phenomena is found to be similar in spite of the change of EDM energy level. But it will be improved by changing the material and the shape of wire. The roundness of middle is found to be worse than that of upper and it is increased as the thickness of material is increased.

  • In wireless mobile communication systems, priority of voice service through high speed data and multimedia transmission requires increased service diversification. Research is being carried out in this environment, on the call admission control techniques to guarantee the diversified service's QoS. SRN (Stochastic Reward Net) is an extended version of Petri nets, well know modeling and analysis tool. In this paper, we develop SRN call admission control model considering the 4 classes of services in the 4th generation IEE 802.16e mobile communication Technology.

Effect of Process Parameters on Deposition Characteristics in Fabrication of Coated Tools (코팅공구의 제조에서 공정인자가 증착특성에 미치는 영향)

  • Thermal CVD method is in general used for the fabrication of TiC/$Al_2O_3$-coated carbide tools. The growth of TiC layer and the coating morphology depended on the chemical composition of the hard metal substrate on which the tool properties were strongly influenced. TiC-coated layer was grown by the diffusion of carbon from the substrate, whereas the growth of $Al_2O_3$ layer was unrelated to the composition of substrate. In the nitride hard coatings of Zr, Nb and Mo metals deposited on high speed steel substrate by magnetron sputtering, the reactivity of the metal elements was decreased with increasing group number in one period of the periodic system. The hard material films exhibited the highest adhesion with the chemical composition of stoichiometry or substoichiometry. The critical load as a measure of adhesion was evaluated using scratch tester. The CVD tools indicated the values of 80 and 40N in the coated layers with proper bonding to the substrate and with $\eta$ phase of 1$\mu\textrm{m}$ in the interface respectively, but the nitride films prepared by sputtering of PVD showed only the values between 10 and 20N.

  • In the last decades, inter-networking technologies advanced more rapidly than any other field. Today, the Internet is one of the most important infrastructure to society as becoming an indispensible tool of people and companies. During mid-1990's, developed countries recognized the advanced network as a basic infrastructure for the future science and technology development. They developed national research and education networks for the development of future science and network technology. In this paper, we made a comprehensive review of global research and education network developments. We also made analysis of Korea's activities on advanced network comparing with those of developed nations, then suggested approaches to improve Korean advanced networks.

  • We developed a path algorithm for ultrafast/wide area laser processing. Demands for high precision laser processing with a wide area has been increasing for a number of applications such as in solar cell battery, display parts, electronic component and automobile industry. Expansion of the area in which laser processing is an important factor to handle the ultrafast/wide area processing, it will require a processing path. Processing path is path of 2- axis stage and stage of change in velocity can be smooth as possible. In this paper, we proposed a smoothingnurbs method of improved speed profile. This method creates soft path from edge part, it is main purpose that scan area ($50mm{\times}50mm$) inside processing path makes path of topology of possible straight line. We developed a simulation tool using Visual C++.

  • There are many difficulties in automatic polishing for die & mold surfaces. Even though the process has been studied in the past 15 years, it has not been achieved yet, but by the process of actual hand work of well-skilled workers. A new magentic assisted polishing process, which is one of the potential methods for automation of surface finishing has been studied in the past 10 years by colleagues. The process has many merits, but on the other hand also has demerits, one being low efficiency of grindability by comparision with wheel polish. Therefore, some attempts were tried to improve the grindability by adopting electropolishing, ultra-high speed milling, 5-axis controlled machine etc... most recently by colleagues. This paper also aims to improve the efficiency of polishing by introducing the easily-polished shape surface cutting method equalizing the tool feed per revolution to the pick feed. This cutting method was experimentally confirmed to have sufficient grindability to polish milled surface (with $10{{\mu}m}$Rmax surface roughness) into mirror surface (with $0.4{{\mu}m}$Rmax surface roughness).
