  • In this paper, diagnosis for 85 high voltage induction motors which have operated for more than 20 years in 18 wide area water supply offices were applied and the results of diagnosis were analysed. Furthermore, main factors that would be affecting rotor defects were selected and correlations between dependent variables which was magnitude for sideband frequency on current during operation and independent variables such as starting characteristic, operating time, number of operation, load factor, maker, rotation speed, capacity were analysed. It was clear that factors including starting characteristic, number of operation, maker, rotation speed caused break by correlation analysis. From this, regression equation was deduced through regression analysis. Based on suggested regression equation, it is applied usefully that we can estimate the condition of rotor without onsite diagnosis and plan the schedule of diagnosis.

  • This study examined the running dynamic characteristics of a hybrid type wheel-rail high speed train, in which the propulsion method of maglev is applied. A wheel-rail high speed train propelled by a superconducting linear synchronous motor (SC-LSM) is expected to be superior to a maglev train regarding economical and interoperable aspects, still having powerful thrust force as maglev. In this paper, regarding the two methods of applying the SC-LSM to an existing wheel-rail train, to investigate the influences of SC-LSM propulsion on the dynamic characteristics of wheel-rail high speed train, the dynamic model of train including interaction between the rotor and stator of SC-LSM is established. Through the simulation using the model, the influence of the interaction between the rotor and stator of SC-LSM on stability, ride comfort and the effect of guideway irregularity are investigated.

  • In this paper a general solution method is presented to obtain the unbalance response orbit from the finite element based equations of motion of a gear-coupled two-shaft rotor-bearing system, whose shafts rotate at their different speeds from each other. Particularly, are proposed analytical solutions of the maximum and minimum radii of the orbit. The method has been applied to analyze the unbalance response of a 800 refrigeration-ton turbo-chiller rotor-bearing system having a bull-pinion speed increasing gear. Bumps in the unbalance response of the driven high speed compressor rotor system have been observed at the first torsional natural frequency due to the coupling effect of lateral and torsional dynamics. Further, the proposed analytical solutions have agreed well with those obtained by a full numerical approach. The proposed analytical solutions can be generally applied to obtain the maximum and minimum radii of the unbalance response orbits of dual-shaft rotor-bearing systems coupled by bearings as well.

  • This paper presents a new velocity estimation strategy of a non-salient permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive without high frequency signal injection or special PWM pattern. This approach is based on the d-axis current regulator output voltage of the drive system that has the information of rotor position error. The rotor velocity can be estimated through a rotor position tracking PI controller that controls the position error to zero. For zero and low speed operation, PI controller gains of rotor position tracking controller have a variable structure according to the estimated rotor velocity. In order to boost the bandwidth of PI controller around zero speed, a loop recovery technique is applied to the control system. The proposed method only requires the flux linkage of permanent magnet and is insensitive to the parameter estimation error and variation. The designers can easily determine the possible operating range with a desired bandwidth and perform the vector control even at low speeds. The experimental results show the satisfactory operation of the proposed sensorless algorithm under rated load conditions.

  • The paper describes a novel technique for on line parameter identification of three-phase induction motors from a single, run up to speed test. Data is sampled during this test with the normal locked rotor and synchronous speed data captured on the way to reaching the motor's rated speed. Rotor parameter variations with frequency due to skin and proximity effects and other non-linear imperfections such as heating and main flux path saturation are taken into account. This method is ideal for determining and/or verifying parameters used in high performance drives.

  • This paper propose a improved parameter estimations of five-phase squirrel-cage induction motor(IM) for speed control system on field oriented control(FOC). In order to high performance control of ac the motors using a FOC and DTC(direct torque control) algorithm, there are required precise motor parameters for slip calculation, flux observer, controller gain, rotor position and speed estimation, and so on. We are suggest a estimation method of the motor parameters that developing five-phase squirrel-cage IM have a stator of concentrated winding for experimental. There are results of stator winding test, no-load test, locked rotor test, and obtained equivalent circuits using manufactured experimental apparatus. For presenting the superior performance of the speed control system in adapted the parameters, experimental results are presented using a 32-bit fixed point TMS320F2812 DSP with 1.5[KW] IM.

  • Switched reluctance motor(SRM) has the advantages of simple structure, low rotor inertia. and high efficiency. However position sensor is essential in SRM in order to synchronize the phase excitation to the rotor position. The position sensors increase the cost of drive system and tend to reduce system reliability. This paper investigates the speed control of sensorless SRM in which the phase current and change rate are utilized in position decision, and the period of dwell angle is variable by compensating the rotor angle for speed control. The proposed system consists of position decision. phase locked loop controller, switching angle controller and inverter. The performances in the proposed system are verified through the experiment.

  • Four new types of squeeze film dampers have been experimentally investigated to develop a practical and effective damper for flexible rotors. The cylindrical bush damper was selected as the best one among them and applied in a test rotor supported on ball bearings. A stable running of the rotor exceeding the critical speed was observed.

  • Recently, the interior permanent magnet (IPM) motors for electric vehicle (EV) traction motor are being extensively researched because of its high energy density and high efficiency. The traction motor for EV requires high power and high efficiency at the wide driving region. Therefore, it is essential to fully consider the characteristics of the motor from low speed to high-speed driving regions. Especially, when the motor is driven at high speed, a significant centrifugal force is applied to the rotor. Thus, the rotor must be stably structured and be fully endured at the critical speed. In this paper, aims to examine the characteristics of the IPM motor by adjusting the width of air-barrier according to the permanent magnet position which is critical in designing an IPM motor for EV traction motors and to conduct a centrifugal force analysis for grasping mechanical safety.
