  • Basically, in order to apply solid propellant as ignition source to high energy metal particle combustion system, we analyzed combustion characteristics of the HTPB/AP/Al, HTPE/AP/Al propellants by using a strand burner. The propellants were tested in a high-pressure windowed strand burner, which was pressurized up to 300 psia with pure argon gas. Strand burner was visualized with two quartz windows and ignition was accomplished by a 10 W $CO_2$ laser. The burning rate of propellant was measured with high-speed camera method for frame analysis and photodiode method for combustion time analysis. Emission spectrum was measured with spectrometer at 300 nm ~ 800 nm and 1500 nm ~ 5000 nm and then we analyzed species during propellant combustion.

  • An Experimental study was conducted on $CO_{2}$ recycle combustion heating system using pure oxygen instead of conventional air as an oxidant, which is thereby producing a flue gas of mostly $CO_{2}$ and water vapor($H_{2}O$ and water vapor($H_{2}O$) and resulting in higher $CO_{2}$ concentration. The advantages of the system are not only the ability to control high temperatures characteristic of oxygen combustion with recycling $CO_{2}$ but also the possibility to reduce NOx emission in the flue gas. A small scale industrial reheating furnace simulator and specially designed variable flame burner were used to characterize the $CO_{2}$ recycle oxy-fuel combustion, such as the variations of furnace pressure, temperature and composition in the flue gas during recycle. It was found that $CO_{2}$ concentration in the flue gas was about 80% without $CO_{2}$recycle. The furnace temperature and pressure and pressure were decreased due to recycle and the NOx emission was also reduced to maintain under 100ppm.

  • In this study, mixed matrix membranes were prepared by mixing the synthesized zeolitic imidazolate framework-7 (ZIF-7) with poly(ether-b-amide) 2533 (PEBAX2533). A single gas (N2, CO2) was permeated through the membrane to investigate the properties of the gas. Through FT-IR, XRD, and FE-SEM, the peaks and shapes of ZIF-7 were confirmed, and it was determined that the synthesis was successful. Through TGA, it was confirmed that ZIF-7 has excellent thermal stability and that when incorporated into the membrane, the thermal stability is improved compared to pure PEBAX2533. It was found that ZIF-7 synthesized through BET had excellent CO2 adsorption capacity and CO2/N2 adsorption selectivity showed a high value of about 49.64. For the gas permeation, as the ZIF-7 content in the mixed membrane increases, the N2 permeability decreases and the CO2 permeability slightly decreases, while the CO2/N2 selectivity steadily increases. In particular, when 20 wt% of ZIF-7 was added, the CO2 permeability did not decrease significantly and the CO2/N2 selectivity increased considerably, resulting in the performance approaching to the Robeson upper-bound.

  • Effects of the $Al_2$O$_3$surface protective layer, deposited on the SnO$_2$sensing layer by aerosol flame deposition (AFD) method, on the sensing properties of SnO$_2$thin film ags sensors were investigated.Effects of Pt doping to the $Al_2$O$_3$surface protective layer on the selectivity of CH$_4$ gas were also investigated. 0.3$\mu\textrm{m}$ thick SnO$_2$thin sensing layers on Pt electrodes were prepared by R.F. magnetron sputtering with R.F. power of 50 W, at working pressure of 4mTorr, and at 20$0^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. $Al_2$O$_3$surface protective layers on SnO$_2$layers were prepared by AFD using a diluted aluminum nitrade (Al(NO$_3$).9$H_2O$) solution. The sensitivity of CO gas in the SnO$_2$gas sensor with an $Al_2$O$_3$surface protective layer was significantly decreased. But that of CH$_4$gas remained almost same with pure SnO$_2$gas sensor. This result shows that the selectivity of CH$_4$gas is increased because of the $Al_2$O$_3$surface protective layer. In the case of SnO$_2$gas sensors with Pt-doped $Al_2$O$_3$surface protective layers, low sensing property to CO gas and high sensing property to CH$_4$were observed. This results in the increasing of selectivity of CH$_4$gas selectivity are discussed.

  • The $Ph{\acute{e}}bus$ FP project is an international reactor safety project. Its main objective is to study the release, transport and retention of fission products in a severe accident of a light water reactor (LWR). The FPT4 test was performed with a fuel debris bed geometry, to look at late phase core degradation and the releases of low volatile fission products and actinides. Post Test Analyses results indicate that releases of noble gases (Xe, Kr) and high-volatile fission products (Cs, I) were nearly complete and comparable to those obtained during $Ph{\acute{e}}bus$ tests performed with a fuel bundle geometry (FPT1, FPT2). Volatile fission products such as Mo, Te, Rb, Sb were released significantly as in previous tests. Ba integral release was greater than that observed during FPT1. Release of Ru was comparable to that observed during FPT1 and FPT2. As in other $Ph{\acute{e}}bus$ tests, the Ru distribution suggests Ru volatilization followed by fast redeposition in the fuelled section. The similar release fraction for all lanthanides and fuel elements suggests the released fuel particles deposited onto the plenum surfaces. A blockage by molten material induced a steam by-pass which may explain some of the low releases. The revaporisation testing under different atmospheres (pure steam, $H_2/N_2$ and steam /$H_2$) and up to $1000^{\circ}C$ was performed on samples from the first upper plenum. These showed high releases of Cs for all the atmospheres tested. However, different kinetics of revaporisation were observed depending on the gas composition and temperature. Besides Cs, significant revaporisations of other elements were observed: e.g. Ag under reducing conditions, Cd and Sn in steam-containing atmospheres. Revaporisation of small amounts of fuel was also observed in pure steam atmosphere.

  • The surface chemistry of $Re_2(CO)_{10}$ deposition for preparing highly dispersed rhenium catalysts and the formation of active site for the metathesis were studied. Alumina as support was treated at 1223K(DA) and 773k(PDA), respectively. The metathesis activity of the catalysts at 298K was measured by using pure propene under atmospheric pressure. The oxidation number of rhenium on PDA was very high, and that on DA was zero-valent with highly dispersed state. The prepared Re/DA catalyst was easily activated by treating with oxygen gas at low temperatures after thermal decomposition at high temperatures. The activity of Re/DA catalyst, even with very low rhenium loading, was much higher than that of Re/PDA or conventional $Re_2O_7/Al_2O_3$ catalysts. Therefore, rhenium carbonyl was effective for preparing a highy active metathesis catalyst with very low rhenium loading. Rhenium ion on Re/DA catalyst seemed to be bonded to two oxygen atoms on DA surface, that is, two-valent. The two-valent rhenium ion was changed to about six-valent by treating with oxygen. It could be considered that propene metathesis occurred through carbene complex which was formed on the six-valent rhenium ions.

  • An attempt was made to develop commercially pure titanium frames of glasses with a high-precision laser beam welding machine, in which a resonator with 12kw of the peak power and 200 W of maximum mean power has the capacity of variable in the range of 0.08~10 ms pulse width. In addition the optical fiber beam transmission with 400 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of the core diameter and a weld chamber to contain specimens in the inert gas atmosphere were also designed and used. In the present study. titanium frames of glasses parts such as temple plus spring hinge. bridge and top bar were experimentally manufactured by utilizing the optimum welding parameters with the optical fiber of GI 400 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, 2.9J energy per pulse, and focussing position for Tee and butt joints. The titanium welded joints with laser beam welding did not reveal any severe weld defects or weld bead appearance except some pores in the weld section.

  • The high temperature occurs due to the combustion gas from engine in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV). The high temperature may cause serious damages in UAV structure. The Functionally Graded Material (FGM) is chosen as a candidate material of the engine duct structure. A functionally graded material (FGM) is a two- component mixture composed by compositional gradient materials from one material to the other. In contrast, traditional composite materials are homogeneous mixtures, and involve compositions between the desirable properties of the component materials. Since significant proportions of an FGM contain the pure form of each material, the need for compromise is eliminated. The properties of both components can be fully utilized. Thermal stress analysis of FGM layers (20, 40, 60, 80 and 100) is performed in this paper. In addition, the creep behavior of FGM applied in duct structure of an engine is analyzed for better understanding of FGM characteristics.

  • MgO based nanocomposite powder including ferromagnetic iron particle dispersions, which can be available for the magnetic and catalytic applications, was fabricated by the spray pyrolysis process using ultra-sonic atomizer and reduction processes. Liquid source was prepared from iron (Fe)-nitrate, as a source of Fe nano-dispersion, and magnesium (Mg)-nitrate, as a source of MgO materials, with pure water solvent. After the chamber were heated to given temperatures (500~$^800{\circ}C$), the mist of liquid droplets generated by ultrasonic atomizer carried into the chamber by a carrier gas of air, and the ist was decomposed into Fe-oxide and MgO nano-powder. The obtained powders were reduced by hydrogen atmosphere at 600~$^800{\circ}C$. The reduction behavior was investigated by thermal gravity and hygrometry. After reduction, the aggregated sub-micron Fe/MgO powders were obtained, and each aggregated powder composed of nano-sized Fe/MgO materials. By the difference of the chamber temperature, the particle size of Fe and MgO was changed in a few 10 nm levels. Also, the nano-porous Fe-MgO sub-micron powders were obtained. Through this preparation process and the evaluation of phase and microstructure, it was concluded that the Fe/MgO nanocomposite powders with high surface area and the higher coercive force were successfully fabricated.

  • During the recent years, wine analysis has played an increasing role due the health benefits of phenolic ingredients in red wine [1]. On the other hand there is the need to be able to distinguish between different wine varieties. Consumers want to know if a wine is an adulterated one or if it is based on the pure grape. Producers need to certificate their wines in order to ensure compliance with legal regulations. Up to now, the attempts to investigate the origin of wines were based on high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), gas chromatography (GC) and pyrolysis mass spectrometry (PMS) [l,2,3]. These methods need sample pretreatment, long analysis times and therefore lack of high sample throughput. In contradiction to these techniques using near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS), no sample pretreatment is necessary and the analysis time for one sample is only about 10 seconds. Hence, a near infrared spectroscopic method is presented that allows a fast classification of wine varieties in bottled red wines. For this, the spectra of 50 bottles of Cabernet Sauvignon, Lagrein and Sangiovese (Chianti) were recorded without any sample pretreatment over a wavelength range from 1000 to 2500 nm with a resolution of 12 cm$\^$-1/. 10 scans were used for an average spectrum. In order to yield best reproducibility, wines were thermostated at 23$^{\circ}C$ and a optical layer thickness of 3 mm was used. All recorded spectra were partitioned into a calibration and validation set (70% and 30%). Finally, a 3d scatter plot of the different investigated varieties allowed to distinguish between Cabernet Sauvignon, Lagrein and Sangiovese (Chianti). Considering the short analysis times this NRS-method will be an interesting tool for the quality control of wine verification and also for experienced sommeliers.
