A homogeneous $KNbO_3$ (KN) phase was formed by sintering at $1,040^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour, without formation of the $K_2O$-deficient secondary phase even though suffering the minor loss of $K_2O$. KN liquid phase was formed during sintering and abnormal grain growth occurred in this specimen. The detailed microstructural observations on KN during sintering were carried out using high resolution transmission electron microscopy. The ledged structures were found at the KN grain boundary and the abnormal grain growth was performed by the lateral migration of these ledges in the presence of the liquid phase. The liquid pockets were found in the KN grains. They have various external shapes mainly due to the kinetic factors. They have atomically flat interfaces with some ledges with one atomic height. The slight deficient $K_2O$ by evaporation might somewhat reduce the melting point of KN from the reported at $1,058^{\circ}C$. The liquid pockets play an important role in supplying the liquid phase during the abnormal grain growth in the sintering process of KN ceramics.
In this study, we proposed a newly designed sulfuric acid transfer system for the sulfur-iodine (SI) thermochemical cycle. The proposed sulfuric acid transfer system was evaluated using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis for investigating thermodynamic/hydrodynamic characteristics and material properties. This analysis was conducted to obtain reliable continuous operation parameters; in particular, a thermal analysis was performed on the bellows box and bellows at amplitudes and various frequencies (0.1, 0.5, and 1.0 Hz). However, the high temperatures and strongly corrosive operating conditions of the current sulfuric acid system present challenges with respect to the structural materials of the transfer system. To resolve this issue, we designed a novel transfer system using polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE, $Teflon^{(R)}$) as a bellows material for the transfer of sulfuric acid. We also carried out a CFD analysis of the design. The CFD results indicated that the maximum applicable temperature of PTFE is about 533 K ($260^{\circ}C$), even though its melting point is around 600 K. This result implies that the PTFE is a potential material for the sulfuric acid transfer system. The CFD simulations also confirmed that the sulfuric acid transfer system was designed properly for this particular investigation.
The manufacture of high strength polyethylene(HSPE) tape yarns has been accomplished by a solid state processing(SSP) method as the compaction of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE) powders and drawing of the compacted film under the melting point without any organic solvents. In this study, the characteristics of HSPE tape yarns produced by SSP which is desirable for production cost and environmental aspect were analyzed. As the results, tensile strengths of HSPE tape yarns increased with increasing the draw ratio and the fracture morphology of highly drawn HSPE tape yarns showed more fibrillar shape than the low drawn one. Interfacial shear strengths of HSPE tape yarns with vinylester resin increased by $O_2$ plasma treatment and maximum interfacial shear strength was obtained in the plasma treatment condition of 100W and 5min. In addition, mechanical properties of HSPE tape yarn reinforced composites were investigated and compared with those of the gel spun HSPE fiber reinforced composites.

Polyether ketone (PEEK) has been widely used in membranes because of its excellent thermal stability, chemical resistance, and significant mechanical strength. However, the melting temperature is very high, making it difficult to find suitable solvents. Therefore, in this study, PEEK and benzophenone (DPK) were used as diluents to prepare a membrane with excellent mechanical strength and chemical stability using the thermally induced phase separation (TIPS) method to compensate for the shortcomings of PEEK membrane preparation and achieving the highest performances. The optimal membrane manufacturing conditions were confirmed through the crystallization temperature and cloud point according to the polymer content through the phase diagram. Subsequently, the morphological changes of the membrane, influenced by the polymer and diluent content, were confirmed through scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Additionally, the membrane thickness tended to increase with higher polymer content. Tensile strength and DI-water permeability tests were conducted to confirm the mechanical strength and permeability of the membrane. Through the previous characteristic evaluation, it was confirmed that the membrane using PEEK had excellent mechanical strength and permeability.

The weight reduction of the transportations has become an important technical subject Al and Al alloys, especially Al 5052 alloys have been being applied as door materials for automobile. One of the most widely known car weight-reduction methods is to use light and corrosion-resistant aluminum alloys. However, because of high electrical and thermal conductivity and a low melting point, it is difficult to obtain good weld quality when working with the aluminum alloys. Also, Pulse MIG welding is the typical aluminum welding process, but it is difficult to apply to the thin plate, because of melt-through and humping-bead. In order to enhance weld quality, welding parameters should be considered in optimizing the welding process. In this experiment, Al 5052 sheets were used as specimens, and these materials were welded by adopting new Cold Metal Transfer (CMT) pulse process. The proper welding conditions such as welding current, welding speed, torch angle $50^{\circ}$ and gap 0~1mm are determined by tensile test and bead shape. Through this study, range of welding current are confirmed from 100A to 120A. And, the range of welding speed is confirmed from 1.2m/min to 1.5m/min.
This paper focuses on the electrical properties and stability against DC accelerated aging stress of ZnO-V2O5-MnO2-Nb2O5-Bi2O3-Co3O4-Dy2O3 (ZVMNBCD) varistor ceramics sintered at 850 - 925 ℃. With the increase of sintering temperature, the average grain size increases from 4.4 to 11.8 mm, and the density of the sintered pellets decreases from 5.53 to 5.40 g/㎤ due to the volatility of V2O5, which has a low melting point. The breakdown field abruptly decreases from 8016 to 1,715 V/cm with the increase of the sintering temperature. The maximum non-ohmic coefficient (59) is obtained when the sample is sintered at 875 ℃. The samples sintered at below 900 ℃ exhibit a relatively low leakage current, less than 60 mA/㎠. The apparent dielectric constant increases due to the increase of the average grain size with the increase of the sintering temperature. The change tendency of dissipation factor at 1 kHz according to the sintering temperature coincides with the tendency of the leakage current. In terms of stability, the samples sintered at 900 ℃ exhibit both high non-ohmic coefficient (45) and excellent stability, 0.8% in 𝚫EB/EB and -0.7 % in 𝚫α/α after application of DC accelerated aging stress (0.85 EB/85 ℃/24 h).

Most of propellants that is used widely in the world release toxic gases such as methane gas and carbon dioxide during combustion which are noxious to the environment. This study established a synthetic process of a high nitrogen containing derivative of triazole, 4,5-bis(azidomethyl)-methyl-1,2,3-triazole (DAMTR), which can be applied as energetic plasticizer to environmental concerns. Also, the compound was characterized by NMR, IR spectroscopy, and physical properties such as glass transition temperature, melting point, decomposition temperature, density, impact sensitivity, viscosity and volatility were measured. In addition, the heats of formation (${\Delta}H_f$) and detonation properties (pressure and velocity) of DAMTR were calculated using Gaussian 09 and EXPLO5 programs.
As a filler metal for lowering the melting point of Ag, many alloy metal candidates have emerged, such as cadmium, with zinc, manganese, nickel, and titanium as active metals. However, since cadmium is known to be harmful to the human body, Cd-free filler metals are now mainly used. Still, no study has been conducted comparing the characteristics of joints prepared with and without cadmium. In addition, studies have yet to be conducted comparing the typical characteristics of brazing filler metals with special structures, and the joint characteristics of brazing filler metals with available frames. In this study, the characteristics of junctions of silver-based intercalation metals were compared based on the type of filler metal additives, using a special structure, a filler metal sandwich structure, to protect the internal base metal. The general filler metal was compared using the structure, and the thickness of the filler metal according to the thickness was reached. A comparison of the characteristics of the junction was conducted to identify the characteristics of an intersection of silver-based brazing filler metal and the effect on joint strength. Each filler metal's collective tensile strength was measured, and the relationship between joint characteristics and tensile joint strength was explored. The junction was estimated through micro strength measurement, contact angle measurement with the base metal when the filler metal was melted, XRD image observation, composition analysis for each phase through SEM-EDS, and microstructure phase acquisition.

Fire doors installed to prevent the spread of fire in buildings are made of paper honeycomb, glass wool, and other materials. Due to their high water absorption rate, they absorb ambient moisture and degrade, and their increased weight causes them to sag internally, creating voids that can warp in the event of a fire and allow flames to pass through. To overcome these issues, research is being conducted on the physical performance of lightweight aerated concrete. However, there is a lack of research on how to ensure fire resistance. Therefore, in this study, the backside temperature of lightweight aerated concrete formulations was measured and compared and analyzied with the physical performance. Since it is difficult to achieve low density by saturation alone, aerated concrete with EPS was produced, which resulted in a density reduction of 24'26%, but the strength increase per unit cement increase was 5'25%, which tended to be lower than the formulation without EPS. The results showed that the lightweight aerated concrete with EPS was 130~140℃ lower than the lightweight aerated concrete with EPS, which is believed to be due to the melting point of EPS delayed the heat diffusion. In the future, wo plan to conduct research to identify the optimal formulation for fire door core materials by varying the amount of EPS added and using industrial by-products to increase long-term strength.

The purpose of this study is to develop a data base for material selection of turbofan engines, which is preferred in these days on many application due to their high performance with economical operation. Hundreds of Super Alloys have been developed by this time, each having special properties. Since it is very difficult task for a design engineer to select materials of adequate Properties for specific engine components, a good data bate is strongly desired to manage informations on various kinds of materials. However, no basic research is reported in this area so far in our country. The operating conditions such as temperature, pressure, rpm of spools are assumed to be provided by other mechanical studies. Creep rupture strength, corrosion resistance, yield strength, thermal expansion, melting point, etc., are considered as typical properties in this study to search a group of candidate materials. Formability, manufacturing or purchase cost can also be important variables to be considered. As a result of this study, a user-friendly computer program has been developed for input of new material information, interactive material selection, and output of selection results. Finally, discussion is presented from. the viewpoint of materials engineering. A method to evaluate the performance of the selected materials is also suggested.
