It is important to evaluate austenitic heat resistant stainless steel because of low weldability of austenitic heat resistant stainless steel containing high Si. This study took varestraint test for evaluation of solidification cracking sensitivity and Erichsen test for evaluation of weld metal ductility. As a result of tests, solidification crack sensitivity increased with adding $N_2$ to shielding gas, and W had detrimental effect on crack resistance, but Ce had beneficial effect on crack resistance. Under same heat input, ductility of weld metal increased with welding speed.
The critical heat flux (CHF) levels that occurred due to exponential heat inputs for varying periods to a 1.0-mm diameter horizontal cylinder immersed in various liquids were measured to develop an extended database on the effect of high subcoolings for quasi-steady-state and transient maximum heat fluxes. Two main mechanisms of CHF were found. One mechanism is due to the time lag of the hydrodynamic instability (HI) which starts at steady-state CHF upon fully developed nucleate boiling, and the other mechanism is due to the explosive process of heterogeneous spontaneous nucleation (HSN) which occurs at a certain HSN superheat in originally flooded cavities on the cylinder surface. Steady-state CHFs were divided into three regions for lower, intermediate and higher subcooling at pressures resulting from HI, transition and HSN, respectively. HSN consistently occurred in the transient boiling CHF conditions that correspond to a short period. It was also found that the transient boiling CHFs gradually increased, then rapidly decreased and finally increased again as the period became shorter.
This paper demonstrates the performance of a metal-substrate power module with multiple fabricated chips for a high current electrical application, and evaluates the proposed module using a 1.5-kW sinusoidal brushless direct current (BLDC) motor. Specifically, the power module has a hybrid structure employing a single-layer heat-sink extensible metal board (Al board). A fabricated motor driver IC and trench gate DMOSFET (TDMOSFET) are implemented on the Al board, and the proper heat-sink size was designed under the operating conditions. The fabricated motor driver IC mainly operates as a speed controller under various load conditions, and as a multi-phase gate driver using an N-ch silicon MOSFET high-side drive scheme. A fabricated power TDMOSFET is also included in the fabricated power module for three-phase inverter operation. Using this proposed module, a BLDC motor is operated and evaluated under various pulse load tests, and our module is compared with a commercial MOSFET module in terms of the system efficiency and input current.
The aim of this study is to investigate the full annealing parameter for A3003 Al alloy welded tubes. The A3003 Al alloy tubes with 34 mm in external diameter and 1.3 mm in thickness for OPC drum were manufactured by high frequency induction welding with the V shaped convergence angle $6.7^{\circ}$ and power input 50 kW. The tensile and yield strength decreased with increasing the annealing temperature and time remarkably, but elongation increased remarkably. Vickers hardness in welds and base metal decreased with increasing the annealing temperature and time remarkably. In a certain experimental condition, the welds line in A3003 alloys disappeared at $520^{\circ}C$ for 4hr because of the same mechanical properties and structures between welds and base metal.

Welding-induced buckling distortion is one of the most problematic concerns in both design and fabrication of welded thin-plate structures. This paper deals with experimental and numerical results of the welding-induced longitudinal and/or buckling distortion occurring in welding of 6mm-thick AH36 high strength steel plates. Effects of the heat input and the plate size on the distortion were experimentally evaluated for square plates. Bead-on-plate welding was performed with the submerged arc welding process along the middle line of plate specimens. Experimental results showed that the longitudinal distortion made a single curvature in the plate, and the distortion magnitude along the weld centerline was proportional to the heat input and the plate size. The experimental results were used to examine the validity of the numerical simulation procedure for welding-induced distortion where the longitudinal distortion mode and magnitude were numerically quantified. Three-dimensional, large deformation, welding simulations were performed for selected weld models. Numerical results of the distortion mode and magnitude were in a good agreement with experimental ones. Depending on the presence of halting the distortion growth during the cooling cycle of welding, the condition discriminating buckling distortion from longitudinal distortion was established. Eigenvalue analyses were performed to check the buckling instability of tested plates with different sizes subjected to different heat inputs. The perturbation load pattern for the analysis was extracted from longitudinal inherent strain distributions. Critical buckling curve from the eigenvalue analyses revealed that the buckling instability is manifested when plate size or heat input increases.
The flow and thermal performance of the skiving and louver fin type heat sinks for the cooling system of the small LED projector were experimentally evaluated. A small fan tester based on AMCA standards was used to control and measure the air flow rate into the heat sink. Three heat blocks were used to simulate the heat and light sources(red, green and blue) of the small LED projector. We measured the pressure drop, temperatures and input power at the specific air flow rate and discussed those results. As a result, it is found that the louver fin type heat sink has higher pressure drop and lower thermal resistance than the skiving type. From the comparison of the temperature of the heat block between skiving and louver fin type, the louver fin type heat sink was found to be more suitable for cooling the high power heat source than skiving type. The thermal performance of the fan-sink(louver fin type) system was discussed with the picture taken by a thermal video.
Loop thermosyphon(LTS) has many good characteristics such as low thermal resistance, no power consumption, noiseless operation and small size. To investigate the overall performance of LTS, we have performed various experiments varying three parameters: input power of the heater, working fluid(water, ethanol, FC3283) and filling ratio of the working fluid. At a combination of these parameters, temperature measurements are made at many locations of the LTS. The temperature difference between the evaporator and the condenser is used to obtain the thermal resistance. In addition, flow visualization using a high speed camera is carried out. The thermal resistance is not constant. It is lower at higher input power, which is one of the distinct merits of LTS. Flow instabilities are frequently observed when changing the working fluid, the input power and the filling ratio. The results show that the LTS can be readily put into practical use. Future practical application in electronic cooling is recommended.
TiB2 was simultaneously synthesized and densified with concurrent self-propagating high-temperature synthesis and direct contact-heating by electrcial power input and pressure. Density of TiB2 synthesized by self-propagating high-temperature synthesis and consolidated simultaneously by direct contact-heating and pressure was maximum 80% of the theoretical density (4.52g/㎤). Temperature profile was analyzed by solving heat balance equation with numerical method (FTCS method). The temperature of the sample was sufficiently raised to that temperature sufficient to be densified. It was ascertained that the density of the SHS synthesized TiB2 is exponentially proportinal to the input thermal energy per mass.
This paper presents the characteristics of low consumption, high-response time hot-film type micro-flowsensors with SOI(Si-on-insulator) and trench structures. Output voltages increased due to increase of heat-loss from sensor to external. Compared with no-trench on the SOI structure, the micro-flowsensors with trench structures have properties of high output voltage and low consume power. Output voltage of micro-flowsensors with SOI and trench structures was 250 mV at $N_2$ flow rate of 2000 sccm/min, heating power of 0.3 W. The response time was about 85 msec when input flow was step-input.
