  • The pantograph for Korean High Speed Train was developed and had been evaluating by through 'G7-R&D project' for home grown high speed train technology. In this paper, from the point of view in mechanical aspect, comparison study on the current collection characteristics between the KHST pantograph and contact wire in catenary system on the High-Speed Line and Ho-Nam/Kyoung-Bu conventional lines is conducted. A measuring system for the performance and mechanical characteristics of the KHST pantograph is used for this study, which was developed and installed on the Proto-type Korean High Speed Train, and physical characteristics were measured while the KHST runs on the High-Speed Line and conventional lines. Through this study, remarkable variations of characteristics which can affect to a current collection quality of high-speed train are found and analyzed from measured mean contact forces in both tracks.

A study on the monitoring of high-density fine particulate matters using W-station: Case of Jeju island (W-Station을 활용한 고밀도 초미세먼지 모니터링 연구: 제주도 사례)

  • Although interest in air quality has increased due to the frequent occurrence of high-concentration fine particulate matter recently, the official fine particulate matter measuring network has failed to provide spatial detailed air quality information. This is because current measurement equipment has a high cost of installation and maintenance, which limits the composition of the measuring network at high resolution. To compensate for the limitations of the current official measuring network, this study constructed a spatial high density measuring network using the fine particulate matter simple measuring device developed by Observer, W-Station. W-Station installed 48 units on Jeju Island and measured PM2.5 for six months. The data collected in W-Station were corrected by applying the first regression equation for each section, and these measurements were compared and analyzed based on the official measurements installed in Jeju Island. As a result, the time series of PM2.5 concentrations measured in W-Station showed concentration characteristics similar to those of the environmental pollution measuring network. In particular, the results of comparing the measurements of W-Station within a 2 km radius of the reference station and the reference station showed that the coefficient of determination (R2) was 0.79, 0.81, 0.67, respectively. In addition, for W-Station within a 1 km radius, the coefficient of determination was 0.85, 0.82, 0.68, respectively, showing slightly higher correlation. In addition, the local concentration deviation of some regions could be confirmed through 48 high density measuring networks. These results show that if a network of measurements is constructed with adequate spatial distribution using a number of simple meters with a certain degree of proven performance, the measurements are effective in monitoring local air quality and can be fully utilized to supplement or replace formal measurements.

  • Generally, grounding systems are responsible for the safe operation of a power system. Their performance guarantees equipment protection and personnel safety under condition of the limited ground potential rise and touch voltages as well as step voltages under ground fault conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to measure the ground resistance frequently for checking the performance of grounding system, In this paper the ground resistance measuring system using digital signal processor and high-performance L-C resonant band pass filter is presented. The signal current magnitude for measuring ground resistance in this system is $10^{-1}[A]\;to\;5\times10^{-2}[A]$ and the current frequency is 30[Hz].

  • Based on Faraday effect, the variation of current flowing through the conductor can be encoded as that of azimuth angle of light polarization propagating through the fiber coil wound onto the conductor. The amount of current can be obtained by measuring the variation of the light intensity transformed from that of the azimuth angle through a polarization analyzer. In this paper we propose a fiber-optic current sensor system that employs a fiber polarization analyzer as a sensor interrogation device. The fiber polarization analyzer was prepared by inscribing a long-period fiber grating on a high birefringent fiber. At the fixed wavelength of 1522.5 nm, the fabricated fiber device has the polarization extinction ratio of more than 25 dB. The measurement of large current up to 600 Arms was accomplished based on a simple fiber interrogation device and the measurement output of the sensor system showed a good linearity.

  • We propose portable equipment that monitors a current and potential on high-potential power transmission lines.   • As development of industry is accelerated, most electricity load system requires power supply that could be high precision and effective control. Among supply and control unit of suitable power supply in these load characteristic, inverter systems of constant current regulate is used widely control of lighting & beaconing of aerodromes and electric heating system. Therefore, in this paper proposed a inverter systems of constant current regulate that using improved measurement and switching techniques. Proposed measure techniques that used moving average method of instantaneous r.m.s. for measuring current sensing improved response and precision. Also, in this paper proposed improved high effectiveness switching techniques that get high efficiency of inverter by the double-carrier modulation. Results of an experiment proved effect of proposed system.

  • The Korean High Speed Train(KHST) had been developed and evaluating on the Kyoung-Bu High Speed Line by through 'G7-R&D project'. In order to evaluate the function and characteristics of high speed train system, various experimental conditions have been considered and conducted. In this paper, current collection characteristics of KHST between pantograph and catenary system and dynamic behaviors are measured and analysed over 300 to 350km/h in running speed of KHST. A measuring system which was developed and installed on the Korean High Speed Train for the performance and mechanical characteristics of the KHST pantograph is used for this trial running test and we proofed that KHST has a remarkable and stable current collection characteristics as it had been designed.

  • A current transformer for measuring current in high power testing laboratory is exactly proportional to the current including D.C component due to electrical transient. But, current transformer isn't designed to consider D.C component, therefore when data acquisition system measure that current. the error is increased because of saturation of core. This paper describe the concept of transient factor and how to design the current transformer.

  • The equipment is used for testing the electrical characteristics of solar cells that were connected to be a solar panel, which can be found anywhere of solar power plant. This device was built from power switch devices f3r sinking the high current of the solar panel. The processor is a controller, which controls the quantity of the current, which flow through the switching devices and collect the characteristic of the solar panel. The tester can measure the current, voltage, temperature, and light intensity, which are main factors that affect the electrical characteristics of solar cells. 12 bits resolution signal converter is used to change the measuring levels so we can change measuring levels to 4096 levels, and these data are stored in tile memory. The equipment can also calculate the maximum power of the solar system panel.

  • A new method was investigated to measure the high current in resistance welding processes. A measuring unit was developed by using a strain gage attached on the outer surface of a steel ring. The steel ring was placed around a section of the secondary loop of the welding machine, and was deformed by electro-magnetic forces induced by the high welding current. The circumferential constituent of the ring deformation was then used to obtain a signal voltage proportional to the secondary welding current. The strain gage signal of ring deformation is enough to determine the welding current in resistance spot welding, especially when welded with direct current.
