  • This paper discribes the viscous interaction of Hypersonic Wedge Flows using Roe FDS and AUSM+. For this purpose we developed the frozen and the equilibrium code and numerically simulated the viscous interaction by changing the surface temperature and the mach number. We used curve fitting data in NASA Reference Publication 1181, 1260 to calculate equilibrium properties. We compare the equilibrium flow with the frozen flow. We conclude that the mach number and the surface temperature are significant parameters, as the surface temperature and the mach number increase the viscous interaction becomes stronger, and we must consider high-temperature effects in hypersonic flow

  • In this study the effects of fluid viscosity on the pump performances for a conventional centrifugal pump were experimentally investigated. The study aimed to compare the pump characteristics between water and viscosity fluids. In order to measure the flow rate and pressure, v-notch welt and bourdon pressure gauges were used for the codes of KS B6301 and KS B6302. The working fluids were water, aqueous sugar and glycerin solutions. The results were summarized as follows : The experimental results were summarized as follows : the pump characteristics of the total head, shaft power, and efficiency with high viscosity fluids were different from those of water. When the viscosity of the applied fluid was increased, the total head and efficiency were more decreased than those of water. The decreasing gradients of the total head and the efficiency were larger than water due to the increased disk friction losses at the duty operation point. However, the shut-off head was almost constant regardless the viscosity of applied fluids. Each efficiency curves for the sugar $20w\%$ and glycerin $20w\%$ solutions was decreased up to $15.1\%$ and $34.4\%$ than that of water, respectively.

  • An unstructured overset mesh method has been developed for the simulation of unsteady viscous flow fields around multiple bodies in relative motion. For this purpose, a robust and fast search technique is proposed for both triangle and high-aspect ratio quadrilateral cell elements. The interpolation boundary is defined for data communication between grid systems and an interpolation method is suggested for viscous and inviscid cell elements. This method has been applied to calculate the flow fields around 2-D airfoils involving relative motion. Validations were made by comparing the predicted results with those of experiments or other numerical results. It was demonstrated that the present method is efficient and robust for the prediction of unsteady time-accurate flow fields involving multiple bodies in relative motion.

  • A methodology for the simulation of compressible high Reynolds number flow over rigid and moving bodies on a structured Cartesian grid is described in this paper. The approach is based on a modified version of the Brinkman Penalization method. To avoid oscillations in the vicinity of the body and to simulate shcok-containing flows, a Weighted Essentially Non-Oscillatory scheme is used to discretize the spatial flux derivatives. For high Reynolds number viscous flow, two turbulence models of the two-equation Menter's SST URANS model and a two-equation Detached Eddy Simulation are implemented. Some simple flow examples are given to assess the accuracy of the technique. Finally, a moving grid capability is demonstrated.

  • The three-dimensional unsteady compressible Full Navier-Stokes equation solver with sliding multi-block method has been applied to analyze three dimensional characteristics of the viscous flow field and compression wave around the high speed train which is entering into a tunnel. The numerical scheme of AF + ADI was used to efficiently solve Navier-Stokes equations in the curvilinear coordinate system. The vortex formation owing to the viscous interaction around the train was found and the generation of compression wave due to the blockage effects was observed ahead of the train in the form of plane wave. The three dimensional characteristics of the flow field compared to the analytic results were discussed in detail. The variation of pressure of tunnel wall surface and velocity profile of the train are identified as the train enters into a tunnel. The changes in aerodynamic forces and streamlines of each specific sections are also discussed.

  • This paper presents ejection of high viscosity fluids with magnetostrictive inkjet printhead(Magjet), which is not common with any other printhead. The MagJet uses a magnetostrictive material, Terfenol-D rod with 10-mm in diameter and 50-mm in length, as an actuation mechanism. It has been known that high viscosity is often an obstacle in ejecting small and mono-disperse droplets. We calculated required pressure with fluidic inertia (Bernoulli equation) and viscous loss (Hagen Poiseuille equation). The required pressure for ejecting a droplet is 1300kPa. The generated force and displacement with Terfenol-D rod are estimated to be 480N (2600kPa) and $28{\mu}m$, respectively. It was enough that Magjet eject high viscosity fluid (Max 1000cP). The experiments are performed to eject the high viscosity fluid with Magjet. The ejection of high viscosity fluids is successful with the aid of Terfenol-D's high performance.

  • Liquid dispensing systems are extensively used in various industries such as display, semiconductor, and battery manufacturing. Of the many types of dispensers, drop-on-demand piezoelectric jetting systems are widely used in semiconductor industries because of their ability to dispense minute volumes with high precision. However, due to the problems of nozzle clogging and undesirable dispensing behavior in these dispensers, which often result in device failure, the use of highly viscous fluids is limited. Accordingly, we studied the behaviors of droplet formation based on changes in viscosity. The effects of surface energy and the inner diameters of needle-type nozzles were also studied. Results showed that nozzles with lower surface energies reduced the ejection volume of droplets when a smaller nozzle diameter (0.21 mm in this study) was applied. These results indicate that the hydrophobic treatment of nozzle surfaces and the use of smaller nozzle diameters are critical factors enabling the use of highly viscous fluids in precision dispensing applications.
