In recent years, the performance requested for which an ultra-high rise buildings is diversified. Large spans are designed in order to gain wide workspace. Column positions are shifted in middle stories to provide space different from neighboring floors. Moreover, in the bottom layers of the building, it is becoming more important to expand freedom to plan flexibility such as creating publically opened wide atria that gives attractive free space. Earthquake-proof criteria is also changing not only human life protection deign but also a design that allows functional continuity. In order to achieve thee needs, as one of technology, we have developed ultra-high strength concrete filled tubular (CFT) columns of the box section that combine ultra-high strength concrete with specified strength of $150N/mm^2$ and ultra-high strength steel material with tensile strength of $780N/mm^2$. In this paper, the outline of development of an ultra-high strength CFT column is reported. Also, the structural design of the ultra-high-rise building using the CFT columns is reported.
In high-rise buildings, high-strength concrete is widely used to reduce the section of structure members under axial load. Also, the price increase of materials is very important item in the high-rise buildings. Especially, concrete used high-pressure pump due to consecutive structural assembly. Unlike slump type of ordinary concrete, high strength concrete has different properties of concrete pumping due to viscosity. However, there have been no Korean studies on the pumping properties of high strength concrete. Therefore, this paper measures the friction factor of high strength concrete with changes in the pressure of concrete pumping. We analyzed the trends of the friction factor based on changes in the pressure of concrete pumping, and then calculated the quantity of concrete deposited for each specified concrete strength and location of placement. After comparing these results with the quantity of concrete deposited measured in field, we evaluated the pumping properties of high strength concrete. Through the tests and the review, we attempt to suggest some basic information for the In-Situ application of high strength concrete.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the mechanical characteristics of plain and steel fiber high strength concrete under uniaxial and biaxial loading condition. A number of plain and steel fiber high strength concrete cubes having 28 days compressive strength of 82.7Mpa (12,000psi) were made and tested. Four principal compression stress ratios, and four fiber concentrations were selected as major test variables. From test results, it is shown that confinement stress in minor stress direction has pronounced effect on the strength and deformational behavior. Both of the stiffness and ultimate strength of the plain and fiber high strength concrete increased. The maximum increase of ultimate strength occurred at biaxial stress ratio of 0.5 in the plain high strength concrete and the value were recorded 30 percent over than the strength under uniaxial condition. The failure modes of plain high strength concrete under uniaxial compression were shown as splitting type of failure but steel fiber concrete specimens under biaxial condition showed shear type failure.
The use of high-strength grout for facility foundations and bridges has recently been expanding in offshore wind farms. Offshore wind farms require a bearing capacity for horizontal loads such as wind, waves. Therefore, in this study, the strength of the high-strength grout discharged through pump pressure was measured and compared with the existing strength to secure the strength after the underwater pump pressure of the high-strength grout used in the offshore wind connection. The compressive strength measurement showed that the strength difference at each position of the core specimen was 1% higher than that of the other specimens, and there was almost no change in the strength according to the height. The strength of the core specimen decreased by 23% compared to the existing strength, which is similar to the result of this study because the strength of the core specimen decreased by approximately 25% compared to the general specimen according to related research. Therefore, it is believed that there is no decrease in strength due to underwater pumping.
Many researches have been carried out on development of high-strength concrete, but most researches have been focused on building structures such as a high-rise building. However today, the demand of high-strength concrete for civil structures like a PSC bridge is increasing steadily. In addition, the current design code based on experimental results of normal strength concrete needs to be modified for high-strength concrete structures. Therefore, it is necessary to perform a research on mechanical properties and mix proportion of high-strength concrete suitable for PSC bridges. The primary purpose of this study was to develop the high-strength concrete mixtures which can be applied to PSC bridges and to evaluate mechanical properties of high-strength concrete.
At the Korea Land and Housing Corporation(LH), concretes with high design strength of 50 MPa and 80 MPa that are composed only of ordinary Portland cement, blast furnace slag, and fly ash are developed. To determine whether the developed high strength concretes have the same properties when they are produced in batch plant(B/P) condition in the ready mixed concrete plant, and as existing high strength concretes, field tests are performed and material properties are evaluated. To investigate the material properties of the high strength concretes before and after pumping, compressive strength, flowability, air content, hydration temperature, pumping and compactability are evaluated. In field tests, before and after pumping, flowability satisfied the relevant criteria. In terms of air content, while it was slightly decreased after pumping, it satisfied the requirements. Hydration temperature criteria were satisfied, and compactability was excellent as well. The study found that the developed ternary high strength concretes have the same properties as existing high strength concretes. They can also be useful for the construction of high-rise buildings, as they are economical.
Recently, more highly effective construction materials are needed for the reasonable and economical structure system is required as the construction structures become more multi storied, large-sized and diversified. That is to say, the highly qualified concrete, the molt universal construction material is positively promoted as a part of plan to establish the effective space according to the dead load of structures and diminish of segment profile and to build up the economic structures. In particular, it is tendency of that the study for high strength concrete increases and construction example of reinforced concrete (RC) using the high strength concrete partially increases. However, the high strength concrete has the problems such high brittleness and low ductility. Specially, for the high strength concrete, it has different strength from normal concrete as the internal temperature goes up steadily due to high heat of hydration by the quantities of highly level of cement, so the concrete which is mixed with various scible materials is used. This study conducted a basic experiment to conclude an adequate selection of materials and to calculate an optimal mixing proportion of those materials to produce High-strength concrete. And also we conducted an experiment to find out basic properties of this concrete such as slump-flow, strength.
This paper presents experimental results on bond-slip behavior of steel reinforced high-strength concrete (SRHC) after exposure to elevated temperatures. Three parameters were considered in this test: (a) high temperatures (i.e., 20℃, 200℃, 400℃, 600℃, 800℃); (b) concrete strength (i.e., C60, C70, C80); (c) anchorage length (i.e., 250 mm, 400 mm). A total of 17 SRHC specimens subjected to high temperatures were designed for push out test. The load-slip curves at the loading end and free end were obtained, the influence of various variation parameters on the ultimate bond strength and residual bond strength was analyzed, in addition, the influence of elevated temperatures on the invalidation mechanism was researched in details. Test results show that the shapes of load-slip curves at loading ends and free ends are similar. The ultimate bond strength and residual bond strength of SRHC decrease first and then recover partly with the temperature increasing. The bond strength is proportional to the concrete strength, and the bond strength is proportional to the anchoring length when the temperature is low, while the opposite situation occurs when the temperature is high. What's more, the bond damage of specimens with lower temperature develops earlier and faster than the specimens with higher temperature. From these experimental findings, the bond-slip constitutive formula of SRHC subjected to elevated temperatures is proposed, which fills well with test data.
Bond strength of reinforcing bar to high-performance concrete using belite cement is explored using beam end test specimen. The key parameters for the bond test are slump of concrete, top bar effect, and strength of concrete in addition to concrete covers. Specimen failed in the typical brittle bond failure splitting the concrete cover as the wedging action. The test results show that the specimens with belire cement concrete show higher bond strength than those with portland cement concrete. Bond strength of the top bar is less than bond strength of bottom bar, but the top bar factor satisfies the modification factor for top reinforcement. The results also show that the bond strength is function of the square root of concrete compressive strength and cover thickness. The recently developed high-strength and high-slump concrete with belite cement performs well in terms of bond strength to reinforcing steel.
