  • Dynamic oscillation motion of a pendant drop has been Investigated experimentally when acoustic wave is applied. This problem is of particular interest in the understanding of transport phenomena, accompanied by liquid drop. In this experiment, pendant drop was made to oscillate by inducing the acoustic wave and the subsequent drop motion was recorded by a high-speed camera. The results obtained indicate that liquid drop hanging on the flat surface has resonant frequencies on each shape oscillation modes. It is also found that exists the swing mode of oscillation on the pendant drop.

정적연소기 내 바이오디젤-에탄올 혼합연료의 분사압력에 따른 연소 및 배출가스에 관한 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Combustion an Emission Characteristics with Injection Pressure of Biodiesel-Ethanol Blending Fuel in CVC)

  • Ethanol has properties of a lower setting point, higher oxygen contents, lower cetane numbers, and also higher volatility compared to biodiesel. Thus, biodiesel fuel can be improved in the fluidity of blending fuel and exhaust emissions by blended ethanol fuel. This research aims to understand combustion characteristics of biodiesel-ethanol blending fuel inside a constant volume chamber. High speed camera was applied to visualize the physics of development of combustion processes, and combustion pressure and exhaust emissions were measured at several blending ratios of ethanol and biodiesel fuel. This information may contribute to improve the performance of biodiesel engine and reduce emissions in future.

  • In this study, spray characteristics research of steady/pulsed injection in crossflow was performed experimentally in the model ramjet combustor. High-speed-camera photography was performed through a visualization window of model combustor, and then, steady and pulsed spray structures were observed and analyzed. Varying influx air temperature and fuel species, we could obtain the trajectory correlation in the steady injection case. In the experiment of pulsed injection, it is found that the pulsed frequency hardly influences spray trajectory. Also, it is found that, in the same injection pressure differential, the trajectory correlation of steady condition can be used for estimating pulsed spray trajectory.

직접분사식 디젤기관의 화염 속에서 생성되는 그을음의 특성에 관한 연구 (A study on the characteristics of soots formation in spray flame for DI diesel engine)

  • To analyze a formation process of the soots in spray flame in the combustion chamber, an optically accessible DI Diesel engine was used for visualization. The images of the flames and soots were visualiaed with high speed camera by Schlieren method and Light extinction method. The spray flame and soot images on the films were analyzed at the various engine operating conditions. Soot distributed widely in spray flame and its concentration was about $100g/m^3$ at the position close by nozzle tip of spray flame region, however it decreased below $20g/m^3$ at the corner of combustion chamber due to soot oxidation.

비에스테르화 바이오디젤유의 분무거동에 대한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on the Spray Behavior of Non-Esterification Biodiesel Fuel)

  • Biodiesel fuel has different spray patterns, because viscosity and surface tension of biodiesel fuel are higher than that of diesel fuel. The diesel combustion is strongly controlled by the fuel spray behavior in combustion chamber. So, it was needed to understand the spay characteristics of non-esterification biodiesel fuel. In this study, the spray characteristics of non-esterification biodiesel fuel was investigated to confirm of an effect of WDP. The characteristics of fuel atomization was analyzed with SMD and span factor through laser diffraction particle analyzer (LDPA), and the process of spray injection was visualized through the visualization system composed of a halogen lamp and high speed camera. It was found that injection delay time and SMD of blended fuel with WDP get shoter and smaller than that of non-esterification biodiesel fuel.

This information may contribute to improve the performance of biodiesel engine and reduce emissions in future.

노즐 형상에 따른 디젤 연료 분무의 발달 예측에 관한 수치 해석적 연구 (The Numerical Study on Prediction of Diesel Fuel Spray Evolution in a Different Types of Nozzle Geometry)

  • The objective of this study was to verify the experimental and numerical results of spray evolution injected from different types of the nozzle-hole geometries. Spray visualization was taken by high speed camera under the different conditions. For the simulations of spray tip penetration, turbulence, evaporation and break-up model were applied K-zeta-f, Dukowicz and Wave model, respectively. Also, the prediction accuracy of spray tip penetration was increased by varying the spray cone angle. At the same time, the results of this work were compared in terms of spray tip penetration, and SMD characteristics. The numerical results of spray evolution process and spray tip penetration showed good agreement with experimental one.

미세버블 디젤 연료의 분사율과 미시적 분무특성에 대한 연구 (Investigation on Injection Rate and Microscopic Spray Characteristics of Fine Bubble Diesel Fuel)

  • This study aims to investigate injection rate and microscopic spray characteristics of diesel fuel containing fine air bubble (FBD). fine bubble was generated by cavitation theory using bubble generator. Fuel spray was injected into constant volume chamber and visualized by high speed camera. The injection rate data was acquired with bosch tube method. Injection rate of finebubble diesel was very similar with that of diesel. It showed slightly faster injection start by 5 ㎲ attributed to the low viscosity characteristics. In microscopic spray visualization, fine bubble diesel spray showed unsymmetric spray shape compared with diesel spray. It also showed very vigorous spray atomization performance during initial spray development. Improved atomization was also attributed to the low viscosity and surface tension of finebubble diesel fuel.

  • This is the experimental research that tries to explain a variety of RH is how to affect the cell performance and the flooding phenomenon of proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). A value of PH changes to 0%, 50% and 90% as its variation, either stoichiometric flow rate changes to 1.5, 2 and 4. Into the comparison between theoretical and experimental value, this study analyzes that a variety of PH is how 10 affect flooding in the cathode of the proton exchange membrane fuel cell. The effect of air stoichiometry, air humidity and different flow fields are also discussed in this paper This study has accomplished the measurement of performance as the variety of RH in the cathode of proton exchange membrane fuel cell, moreover it has recorded the visualization of flooding in the cathode with a high-speed micro camera.

  • It is well known that the combustion phenomenon of diesel engine is an unsteady turbulent diffusion combustion. Therefore, the combustion performance of diesel engine is related to a complex phenomenon which involves the various factors of combustion, such as a injection pressure, injection timing, injection rate, and operation conditions of engine. In this study, the spray and the flame development processes in a single cylinder D.I. diesel visualization engine which uses the electronically controlled injection system were visualized to interpret the complicated combustion phenomenon by using high speed CCD camera. In addition, the cylinder pressure and heat release rate were also obtained in order to analyze the diesel combustion characteristics under several engine conditions.
